The idea is sound if you have enough capacity to make up for the extra time this roundabout route will take.

EC to Pt. Stanley is direct and off-map. No fuel is used nor damage incurred. You can even move at full speed if you are sure this will not p.o. your opponent.
The bad news - it will take a while. I have never done the whole route direct but EC to Panama is about three weeks and Panama to PS is about three weeks.
Never done PS to on-map, so I don't know the time there. Panama to on-map is about two weeks so PS could be 3 weeks. From there you have your on-map time which
you can calculate. Don't forget to change any ships using full speed to get to PS to use mission speed to get on-map!

Another unknown - troop fatigue during the long voyage. I don't know if it accumulates during the EC-PS leg but it would during the PS-on map leg. You should plan to
deposit your troops on a base somewhere to rest up before an assault.

Seems to me the EC-Capetown-Oz route would take about the same time and be easier to manage.

Thanks BBfanboy not 100% sure I am going to make the change or not but its something I need to think about as he has between one and three CA/CL raiders trying to catch me as I run around the edge of the map from San Diego to a point far south of Christmas Island and then back west to Pago Pago. With my scouting PBY's he had not found anything but its something I need to think about.

13 Mar 42 - 17 Mar 42 Executive Summary

At this point not much has happened. There was another ground attack at Singapore that went my way but the supplies are now less than 10K. He has made no further moves at Noumea.

Southwest Pacific Fleet
I have a massive shortage of DDs/CLs/CAs for the carriers out of Auckland due to damage and loss from the battles at the Line Islands/Wake/New Caledonia. Right now I am working to fill out three Carrier Ttaffy's built around the Saratoga(19 days from Upgrade @ Auckland), Yorktown (ready) and Hornet (11 days from Auckland). Many DD's and CLs have been sent to the area from all over the map. I think sufficient DDs and CLs are in route from the British and Americans to all flush out three US CV Taffy's, Force Z (Repulse), the OZ Force and Force H (2 CVs). Each of these will be 15 ships taffy's minus the April '42 upgrades that will take some of them out for a period of time.

Bay of Bengal
There will be a six ship British CVL Force and a 15 Surface Taffy(4 BBs) held to cover this area.

Pearl & the Line Islands
US 1st Batt Division (4 BBs, 9 DMS & 4 DM) will continue to bombard Christmas Island from Palmyra over and over again. A couple of DDs and CLs will also be left over at Peal, unknown the quantities at this time.

Java
The Dutch Force is still in the area and will be held here until it is no longer safe. Not sure if it will withdraw to India or Australia will keep an open mind.

I am still thinking/looking for advice on the convoys but other than that not much going on.

Japanese Amphibious Landings:
None.

Djambi
Long Island

Singapore --- Still Holds!

The battle for Singapore goes into the Epic Stage. I continue to do more damage to him each round, the Forts are Level 3-19%. Supplies are 9386 and falling. The good news is that 1750 supplies will off load this turn and 1750 more may make it in three days.

At this point I may hold until the middle of April.

Well the end is near in Bataan after two days and two attacks. But we have won another major victory at Singapore. It also appears that he has scrapped together some sort of landing force to take an island or two between Fiji and New Caledonia.

Singapore - Victory Again!

After dropping off 3500 supplies we are at 10997, up some but still a small climb after just one day of combat. However, the combat went really well - it seems that replacing all of the leaders for each combat unit, the III Corps and the Army HQ has really paid off.

New Caledonia and Fiji

Seems he will grab one or two of the empty islands between Fiji and New Caledonia. As I only have one CV and two CA's ready to fight for the next ten days I will let him land. I have the A-24's split between Fiji and New Caledonia and fighter cover at both so I pretty sure these are safe.

I have 40 heavy bombers at Suva ready to prevent him building airbases at any of the islands. If he is really smart he will take Efate or the islands north. As Tanna is within ranger of the B-25's and Hudson's as well as the HBs.

20 Mar 42 - 23 Mar 42 Executive Summary

Bataan falls. There is are several rounds of combat where the Japanese gets the upper hand at Palembang but nothing is lost. Singapore is bombarded and the supplies are now just over 9K. He is starting to bomb Port Moresby - will look at setting up some fighter traps here but he has 40 - 50 Zeros and Oscar's Sweeping so not sure if I have the units in place for it.

The landing force heading to the New Caledonia area was nothing of the sort --- it has evacuated the forces from Noumea and I assume they are heading home now (they could land somewhere else but unless is Luganville it would be a mistake for him from my point of view.

Japanese Amphibious Landings:
None.

Well it falls, it might have held for a little longer if I had not made my mistake at Clark Field but to fall in March is something I won't complain too much about as Singapore still holds. I expect the 14th Army to head to the Southwest Pacific and anything that can be spared from garrison to head to Singapore.

Japan wins a tactical victory here as they did more damage and I did not catch any merchant ships but if nothing else this will keep him on his toes and slow down any attempt to move fuels from this area.

24 Mar 42 - 27 Mar 42 Executive Summary

Not too much going on. One more attack Singapore that is a great victory for the allies. A lot of work was done to move pilots around as they complete training. I am not contesting the air over Port Moresby and at this rate it will be closed within a week.

Looks like he has another strike force heading out or an invasion force, not sure which. It could just be the troops that evacuated New Caledonia heading home.

Distraction and Misinformation.....

This may not work but four slow British BB's escorted by the CVL Hermes --- plus CAP from Rangoon (70 Fighters) will bombard these four units. The hope is he spots my carrier planes from the British and thinks he has a solid ID on their location.

The Indomitable Taffy is in Sydney along with Force Z and both are unspotted. The Formidable is in route to Sydney from Port Stanley. The goal is to add these two British CVs to the American CVs (minus the Enterprise that will be repairing) for the Big Move on Christmas Island (May 1st) and then on to Canton. I don't expect him to contest Christmas Island but he may contest Canton. Having two British CVs added given he is down 2 CVs will make a huge force swing in May of 1942.

British Carrier Plane Replacements

Is is me or are the British carrier plane replacements really really low? Right now I am getting 3 Martlet II's and 5 Sea Hurricanes a month. The Sea Hurricanes stop in 42/11 and the Martlet II's in 42/8. I then wait until 43/02 to get 6 Martlet IV's until 43/10.

At this point I get a grand Total 6 Sea Fire IICs and 9 Wildcat Vs from 43/10 forward. Starting in 43/12 the Corsair IIs arrive at a rate of 16 a month and we just ramp up from there.

I am looking at using the British CVs in the thick of it in 42/43 has anyone else had any experience with trying this? If I really have to I could use the Fulmar IIs but other than using up ammo and time they won't help much with the Zeros in air-air. If forced to use them I may just use them as Dive Bombers.....

I have taken the british squadrons off and replaced them with American squadrons periodically. Hardly historical but very effective.

Hi Wargmr,

USN squadrons flew off the USS Robin if I recall correctly.

Since the Fulmars are the only British FAA plane available in decent numbers, I train and use them as low level bombers - 1,000', land and naval.
They suffer from AA but get hits regularly. If I am really concerned about machine gun AA (2000' range) I just set the attack at 3000 feet.

Wargmr I thought about that but I'm pretty sure that would fall outside of the general tone AirGriff and I are playing at. Though if my losses go high enough I may broach the subject with him.

BBfanboy it looks like this is what I am going to have to do. I had sent the Canadian 880 Sgn FAA (Sea Hurricanes) to Australia to move on to the Fleet CV's but it looks like I will turn this around and swap if for the 808 Sqn FAA that use the Fulmar IIs.

This will leave one Fighter Sqn and one Torpedo Bomber on the CVL Hermes. The Indomitable will operate a one FB (trained 1st as a NavB and secondly as a Fighter). The CV Furious will disembark one TB --- this will leave on board one Martlet II sqn and one Albacore Is sqn. I will be short on fighters but the US Carrier Fleet can provide them as needed.

This will leave on TB sqn and one FB sqn that will serve as training platforms for the CV replacements in Australia.

* Based upon losses I have one land based No 273 Sqn RAF Flying Vildebest IIIs training NavT that could convert to another Fulmar II as needed.
* The No 28 Sqn RAF is taking skill 70 GndB pilots and training them for NavB. After this step these pilots will go to either the Fulmar II sqn for active duty or the TB Training squadrons for further training.

This should get me the units I need where I need them and get the training program the units it needs to keep cranking out the replacements. Its all about the logistics planned months in advance........

28 Mar 42 - 29 Mar 42 Executive Summary

Not too much going on. Two more bombardments at Singapore supplies fall to 5000. I have submarine transport missions but without SSTs I don't expect it will help a lot but anything you can do you have to do.

More work on getting my pilots in order and moved around. I am working to replace every US fighter pilot in a non-training squardron in the USA with a skill 70 air-air one. So far I am 80% done.

I am not contesting the air over Port Moresby and at this rate it will be closed within a week. That strike force was the returning force from New Caledonia so no new major landing forces sited.

Line Islands

The US 1st Bat Div (4 BBs, 4 DMs, 8 DMSs) will hit Christmas Island again tomorrow as part of our regular schedule. We have both the Port and Airfield closed already so this is just to keep it closed and continue to chew up the units on the islands. Intel is 3 Units ~3800 personnel.

Fanning Island is now a Level 4 Airfield with an Air HQ. The are 27 B-17s that will now start to bomb the land units on the Island as well. Looking to get further degrade the combat capabilities of the units on the island and run up the XP of the bomber force.

Canton Island
After Taking Christmas Island the units will move on this island. Intel reports the airfield is level 2 and the port is level 2. Now the units that will be used for this will have low preparation (will just have changed target from Christmas) but as it seems he has a lot of engineer units I am hoping that he will be short on combat units as the max stacking is 6K.

I will be bringing two US Inf Divisions, 2 Us Art Bats, 2 Combat Eng Bats so I will be very over stacked. He as no other airfield for support greater than Level 1 in range currently so this is my best shot to take it back.

Savii's Airfield is already Level 3 and expanding with an Air HQ. Once its hits Level 4 I have 16 B-17E's, 8 B-17Ds and 8 LB-30's that will try and knock out the airfield before he can get a ton of fighters in play. I will also expend my P-38's (one squadron plus 15 replacements) for Sweeps.

Java Air Operations

It seems he is getting ready to move in to attack. He has started air operations against the island for the last four days. Do most people just fall back and hold Soerabaja or do they also hold Batavia? Right now I am split between the Soerabaja and Batavia with 1/2 my force at each. I am thinking about falling back with just a token force at Batavia and having everything dig in at Soerabaja...

But for this turn I will just stand the air force down and see if he brings any additional force to bear.

Key Short Cuts

Is there a listing somewhere of the shortcut keys ---- F1, F6, T key etc do? I am sure this manual does not cover them all and I can't see to find the right term for them on the forum search.

Hi Rook,

Depends what he brings, but assuming that your opponent doesn't try to take Java on the cheap, it's really doesn't matter. Japanese divisions will slap your Dutch units around like a bunch of teenage... well folks that get slapped around. Forts that don't have a coastal exposure are nice.

Cheers,
Guy

29 Mar 42 - 30 Mar 42 Executive Summary

Not too much going on. One more attack Singapore supplies fall to 3000. I have submarine transport missions but without SSTs I don't expect it will help a lot but anything you can do you have to do.

I am not contesting the air over Port Moresby and at this rate it will be closed within a week. That strike force was the returning force from New Caledonia so no new major landing forces sited.

Japanese Amphibious Landings:
None.

Japan Conquerors the Following Bases:
None.

Allies Conquerors the Following Bases:

Line Islands
Seems we are now killing troops with the air and naval bombardments. He now has less than 3,000 reported troops on the Islands. Given that I am waiting for at least 21 days to land --- need to complete the carrier refits and finish assembling the landing craft. But for the first time the B-17's are unleashed... I have question....

Do I shift my preparations for my two divisions, 2 Combat Engineers and 2 US Art Bats to Canton as this is my next objective? This will give me far more preparations points and I am not sure I really need them for Christmas.

The search term is "Hotkeys". It is Section 2.2 of the manual, both printed and electronic versions, pages 17-18.

---------------------------------

If you intend to land those troops on Christmas Island before you take it, better leave the prep for Xmas Is. If you switch them to Canton and then
land them at Xmas they will have NO prep for that island and will suffer huge losses in the landings. It's as if they don't know how to get out of
a landing craft without drowning unless they have at least 50% prep!

If you mean to use other troops to take Xmas Island and not use the ones you listed, you should definitely start prepping them for next objective.
By the looks of your bombardment the Japanese are heavily disabled and disrupted. Even if they still have supply if you can keep them disabled and
disrupted up to the time of your landings, you should be able to take Xmas Island with a regiment.
