For those who are curious, the median age of the SPWaW'er is now 36.5. The baby of the bunch is Dedas, at 18, and the senior citizen-soldier is Chief, at 69. Excluding these two, the average age is 36.3. Of 99 respondents so far, we have 1 female: congratulations, Fresca, for breaking the gender barrier. Welcome aboard!

Well, since I don't want to spoil the averages I'm proud(?) to say that you're looking at Joe Average here. I'm 36.2 and as so many others got started with board games in the seventies. My first one was some kind of quad game covering North Africa. Did Squad Leader and the rest, but my all time favourite is Jerusalem a rather small game where you as the Jewish player has to keep those convoys reaching Jerusalem and as the Arab player you have to stop it (of course). Lots of funny special rules, for example the Jewish player has a artillery unit stolen from a British war museum and every time you use it you have to roll a dice to see if it blows up on you. Anyone out there who has played this? As for SPWaW I first played SP and nowadays with two kids (baby girl 8 months and boy almost 3 years old) my girlfriend wonders what the hell I am doing being up all night in front of my laptop. "What are you doing surfing for porn?" "No I'm playing SPWaW, soon they will release 5.0, great huh?" Girlfriend, really bored: "Yeah right!" I'll end by saying what many others have said before me, Thanks Matrix for a great game and for revitilizing the computer war game genre. /robber

Felt I had to chip in too. 43 Years old - Married, 1 Son (24) a pilot in the USAF, 1 son (18) eating me out of house and home, 1 daughter (7) destroying my checking account. I started in the early 80's with AH AIW, PanzerBlitz, and SL. Moved on the the C64 and did countless other Sims/Wargames/RPGs. I have spent the last couple of months with BGII. Traded in my Panthers for a Fighter/Thief. I'm back - currently getting my head handed to me in the Victor's Campaign on a regular basis. Thanks Matrix - Great game - Looking forward to 5.0 and the MegaCampaign. I'll be shooting whatever money my daughter leaves me (or I can hide). Thanks to the forum members - still the best forum on the net.

I lower the average with 26 years. Played wargames since western front with computer and world in flames. Played the previous SP's too. This game really messed up my studies for a while and now have to study a bit harder. But I do not regret. It is a good message that game can reach such wide audience and especially older and more demanding players.

Thanks ! I had been wondering if someone would do some statistics with all the information in this thread. One little question: did you take into account the little add-on thread ? Looks like most of us have a forgiving wife too (or are they just happy that we do not insist on watching every football/soccer game on TV ?), kids (mine are delighted we will be able to team up against the AI with 5.0) and a looooong wargaming history.

Antonius--only this thread. The up to date figures are 104 respondents and 3815 years. That's an average age now at 36.7. My, we've aged 0.2 years in just one day! I'll leave it to another to figure out the total years of gaming experience, BUT, I'll take a educated guess--if everyone here started playing when they were, say, 16, then we have over 2000 years of gaming represented here. Impressive!

I've just turned the big 30. Started of with Risk and went from there. Must say I really enjoy SPWAW. It is a top game. Enjoy reading this forum as well. Some very informed and articulate people on here. Makes for very interesting reading.
