So, the day goes down in the history books...the first positive VP day in quite a while for Japan.

This picture is screaming out for a counter-attack in my view.

Osaka and Nagoya can take care of themselves; in x3 terrain you'll not be needing much in terms of defenders.

I think it is perfectly possible to pull off that miracle victory that the Japanese historically hoped for.

1. Close off all the hex-sides to Gifu to prevent the Americans from expanding their beach-head and draw their troops into the open. If you can re-take it, great. If not, it is no loss. Hopefully, you can draw some troops off

2. Rail every combat ready unit to the hex directly west of Tsu and march them to Tsu.

3. Focus your air power on Tsu. Take that, the Allies are cut off from supply and reinforcement. Even if you don't take that, the risk of losing the beach-head will cause the Allies to immediately pull units off the frontline to shore up their defenses, in which case you can push them back.

Containment of the invasion is perfectly possible. Destruction is also possible.

I'd be surprised if a single one of those DDs sank from just 1 mine hit.

Yeah, I think I bagged two DMS and that is it, the other 4 damaged ships are south of Kobe.

We are sending out a squadron of Myojo kamikazes very low this upcoming day, attempting to hit something. A few other minor plans in the works...

June 22, 1944

June is coming to an end.

Diverse air strikes on Honshu, all aimed at ground troops or runways, so the supply generation et al keeps cranking out war gear for the Empire.

A relatively quiet day over in Indochina; Cam Ranh Bay bombarded by a CL led TF, heavy aerial bombing at Dalat and over on the Singapore rail line.

Looking relatively good here.

The Allies reinforce and attack again at Osaka...here the Type 3 tank makes her combat debut today. None lost, but a few need repairs.

By jimminy cricket, I hope the Allies continue the meat grinder warfare. With another 25 planes lost today to Japanese flak, plus the ground losses, Japan scores their second day in a row of victory point gains!

The current lynchpin of Osaka. Morale is outstanding, the troops have sworn to die to the last pixel soldier before they let Osaka fall to the American horde.

Disruption isn't nice, but the troops remain in good shape. Some artillery pieces joined the defense today, or will once they unpack from the rail road cars they came in on.

Tomorrow will be the big addition to the defense and hopefully Osaka will be secured for the Emperor. Meanwhile the net around the landing continues to strengthen, and there are plans for a counter attack.

Counter attack?

A few things need to fall into shape, but yes, a counter attack is being planned. Troops are moving, and it would be so glorious! It also helps that a counter attack and plans to counter another landing are pretty darn similar.

Ok, Japan is getting kicked from here to eternity, but she isn't going down easy.

I feel so blessed that the Allies don't seem to understand the huge import of terrain. And supplies. And production.

They wield a mighty club, however...

Good show and great seishin.

Despite the overwhelming odds I always find you can still derive satisfaction of putting up a fierce and credible defence. You still have some good combat power there which guarantees a tough fight for him.

Bravo.

Three cheers for the Osaka defense!

You can see the 44th ID is broken into 1/3rds, and set on reserve no pursuit. They were the battered defenders against the initial landings and as of three days ago, had but 3 AV. In another week, they will be up well over 100.

The 52 is finally out of SR mode and should start helping despite their exceptionally weak TOE.

But tomorrow some IJA heavy infantry squads will come in and they should really do well! Plus much more Japanese tanks in the nooks and crannies of Osaka. Including many more Type 3 medium tanks.

The Allies have 90,000 men, 2300 afvs, 2000 guns. Oh my!

Spent the turn reinforcing the Honshu likely battles, sending out some precious mines, and preparing for a big airstrike on the morrow. The Allies are getting quite careless with their CVE groups, and I hope to hit one hard.

It's my belief, from observation, that once set to Combat mode a unit will be treated as if it's in Combat mode - even if it is still unpacking. Likewise for setting to Strategic mode - even if still packing, it will be treated as if in Strategic. So your guns should be good to go already, except that you can't order them to march anywhere.

It's really nice seeing a defense of the Home Islands! Japan is going Banzai on its own soil

I keep telling you that you're not doing bad at all. Points wise, in my opinion the ally player is not really playing smart. There's tons of weak targets he could take and instead he's here smashing against a hard wall. Keep it up

Surviving till 1945, beyond the auto-victory checkpoint, seems absolutely doable now.
(Obligatory disclaimer, hoping you don't lose major cities....)

Auto Victory is checked for each turn, commencing on 1 Jan 1945, and finishing on turn 1634 aka end of March 1946.  The goal of the Allied player is to get an Auto Victory before 31 August 1945 because after that date an Auto Victory is not a Decisive Victory.  Anything less than a Decisive Victory means the Japanese player has performed better than the Allied player.

Some months ago I posted here that Lowpe's opponent's strength is not strategy.  He is however tactically competent albeit he was provided with a dream head start by the original Japanese player who left a shambles to Lowpe.  If Lowpe had not taken over, this game wold have ended very early in 1943 with an Allied Decisive Victory as a result of an Allied Auto Victory.

June 23, 1944

Not a great day, and overall the results of the day are very positive for Japan for the most part, the Allies cotton on to my attack on one of his CVE forces. I am not sure if he knows that was what I wanted to do, so I am sure the opportunity will present itself again at some point. Still, a let down.

Interestingly enough, a lot of IJN air groups get withdrawn on July 10th. Doesn't really bother me too much.

Some Allied destroyer trio squadrons start penetrating what is left of Japanese waters, and the Frances, not a great anti-Fletcher plane, still sorties and cuts one in half.

Pax likes using the Helen in an anti Fletcher role, and I have started doing so after early failures in 1943.

I have two squadrons, one that drops bombs at 3000 feet and is trained in naval bombing. They all miss.

Another squadron that is trained in LowN and bombs from 1000 feet. I get my first hit today! Not much to get excited about, but the ability to hurt Fletchers is really one of the highest priorities a Japanese player has to solve.

So far the Lilly IIb and IIc divebomber have been the absolute best at hitting them at a decent range. Usually the Fletchers stay far enough away from normal single engine divebombers.

Osaka gets really bombed by air today, presaging an attack that doesn't come, as the Allies are content to bombard...which initially I was very worried about given my paucity of artillery, but then I saw the results.

Kobe is getting a lot of attention. The Deathstar's planes attacked here today, hitting the ground troops. The CD guns are heavily disrupted, and Allied minesweepers clear the minefield. I have an Iboat two days away with a load of type 88s which will hopefully come as a surprise.

Speaking of mines, boy, I really wished I had stockpiled the sub dropped mines for now. The Allies are naval bombarding the coast of Honshu at least a half dozen or more times each day now. I do have a lot of the aerial mines however, I have never really seen them as being horribly effective at hitting local shipping.

I think the Allied landings are contained, but now I worry about another landing.

More Type 3 Tanks roll off the production line and get pulled into the front, and I can't tell you how excited I am about getting to use them. If they can exhibit some of the durability that Jocke's Shermans did, their usage will be a tremendous boon for Japan.

I am pulling troops out of the Shikoku block, and also the Depot Division at Matsumaya.

A look at the Osaka defenders. They were heavily bombed by the massed 4e Allied fleet and hundreds of SBDs, but their disruption actually went down on the combat troops.

Look at the 44th ID, they added almost 30 AV in one day. Granted they aren't crack troops, but that is still really powerful.

The reinforcements came in today, the 56th IndMxdBgde. They have 100 percent prep for Osaka. Sweet.

The Deathstar is a little south of Shikoku, with screens out and about.

Another nice day in the air, or should I say ground as the losses are Flak caused.

I am going to try and pick off some of the outlying destroyer task forces...

Dalat falls. I got the 18th Division there, but in reserve no pursuit mode, and they didn't pass their checks to join combat.

Dalat is not hugely important, but the blocking position to the north is now in jeopardy (where supplies are tough to get), and Cam Ranh Bay will probably be abandoned because of it.

Heavy aerial bombing at Dalat.

3000 supply left...so they can hold for a few more attacks.

Sorry to burst your bubble of good news about anti-DD strikes, but Petard and Rocket are not Fletchers; they are British destroyers which tend to be weak in medium AA (40mm or so).
Still, taking out some DDs and gaining experience for your air units is always nice for you.

I purposefully didn't look them up because with names like that, I figured they were British. But I wanted the boost to my ego thinking they were Fletchers. Curse them, aye, curse them greatly!
