So .. with a focus on the problem that lies ahead .. the Allies are losing the points battle and if the big
cities cost equal points to conquer this could move towards a draw ...

It is a very interesting problem for the Allies it is not as simple as engaging in WWI war of attrition
as stated many times before .. the capturing of bases for example increase the nominator but losses
inflate the demominator in this equation ...the magic 2:1 restricts simply throwing force at a problem

I am more now convinced then ever that attacking the periphery where the Allies can concentrate forces
against small IJ chunks is key and invading the home islands during early 1944 exposes the Allies to attrition
that is hard to reverse once fully committed.

I think also that the IJ needs to be fully isolated not just weakened before engaging in a "Hokkaido Hurricane"
This isolation at either Palawin or Formosa ...

Well done Loka, look at what you've done now! This will cause me more suffering than any number of strategic bombing raids can...

Wave after wave hits Osaka...until the Japanese fighter CAP is worn out....

Allies also bomb Nagasaki...

Allied units are seen pulling out of Osaka, and the bombardment shows a weakened force.

Those 4Es can really destroy planes on the ground....still a good day. Managed to nail quite a few 4E beasties.

Who has ever seen a game with so many FM-1 and FM-2 on the front line?

Indochina....holding, holding, can reinforcements get there in time? Both above Dalat, and to firm up the northern positions.

2nd Tank Division is reinforcing the northern battle from the east (on the road) while the 1st Tank Division is heading south (just above the V in Vietnam).

I try to time their arrival, in combat formation, to give the Allies a bloody lip when they attack, and then I pull them back to act as a reserve. I don't like having my tanks static defending.

What Joy!

The Hyuga is undergoing refit at Hong Kong, and I bet that is where this deathstar is headed to. 8 days left refitting, she is a goner. It was oversight on my part that got her the refit, too. Pity.

Lots of Allied troops on the ground here...

I finally figured out why the Allies have been sacrificing mine sweepers at Kobe, he wants to run bombardments into Osaka. Seems pretty risky, but the Allies love their bombardments. CD guns actually hit an Allied destroyer, Paladin, this day at Cam Ranh Bay.

Another brigade showed up, so I was able to form this division up. The fighting 117th.

Look at that TOE.

The good news is it is only 700 points to buy out, should I want to. A good garrison Division, either in China or it is air mobile, making the weak TOE a little palatable.

For example, the division could be moved into one of the static defensive positions against the Allies on Honshu, freeing up heavier divisions for other operations.

Ok, you are right. I would rather have a better TOE and IJA 43 squads. Still, I will find a good use for this division, most likely in China as I would rather buy out better TOE units.

21 days to a big TOE upgrade and a lot of 12 cm AA guns. They are really the best AA guns Japan has until the summer of 45 when the excellent 40mm guns come online. Of course the Allies would fly above the 40mm guns, and they can't really fly above the 12cm ones.

Why in the world can't I get that regiment off Ponape? I have tried like 20 times...

Another look at Osaka's defenders. They are holding off 8 Allied divisions, and their disruption, fatigue, and morale are all excellent.

Now, if ever I can get some fort levels back.

Nagoya's defenders. The disruption should improve as the troops get unpacked. They have been bombed and bombarded.

The block on Shikoku, in x3 terrain. Very nice size 4 forts already.

I am pulling one heavy infantry division out, and have just turned back on some reinforcements for these divisions.

Allies blew a chance to take Shikoku quickly when they first landed, and then blew a chance to destroy these troops as they crossed the clear terrain (several hexes) to get into this nice position.

Moved a lot of ships and planes today. I seem to do that a lot these days.

Running away from the deathstar...

Palembang, Balikpapen, Miri are very good supply generators and I am trying to ship as much of the supplies out as I can. Now would be a good time to use SSTs, I am generally speaking swimming in fuel, but supplies to Vietnam are tough! Lang Son is finally positive at greater than x2, but it has taken several Tabby squadrons to achieve that.

40,000 fuel arrives at Hong Kong today, just ahead of the likely appearance of the deathstar. I am not short fuel, but the routines makes it hard to get fuel to Chinese HI which I don't want to see shut down.

Allies taking their time with the latest turn. He is moving the Deathstar into dangerous waters, not, but I am sure he is double checking all his settings.

Here is a list of the infantry reinforcements for the next month, it looks really sweet to me, and I will be able to put those troops to good use very quickly.

I have fuel, supplies and oil for the rest of the year.

I am short of vehicle points, dangerously low only around 100 vehicle factories left (a big one in Korea). Planes & engines aren't great. HI & Armaments are strong. Armaments are super strong.

I am using the stockpile function to fine tune Japanese production.

The only vehicles I make are Type 3 medium tanks -- all others are set to stockpile. Now, when a reinforcement unit comes online, I do expend points to make those vehicles (if I have enough in the pool).

Other devices being stockpiled are: engineers, aviation support, motorized support, tractors, naval support & more.

I am doing this so as to conserve supplies, and I don't really need anymore of these devices.

In addition to these supply saving moves, I have turn reinforcements on or off as follows:

Artillery and AA are uniformly set to reinforce; I would love to have more of these guys. Most of my larger infantry units and CD units are set to reinforce. Smaller infantry units are generally not set to reinforce.

Thanks that's quite interesting.

I might review and implement the same process for my game when things get a bit tighter.

Kobe gets some fresh type 88 mines, and the CD guns put down an Allied ship quite promptly.

25cm guns will leave a big hole!
