Lots of Allied ships at Kobe, I don't know if the type 88 are dropped yet or not.

Turn off updrades Japan. The Hyuga had hers turned on, and made it to 7 days remaining before the B29s showed up, after two Lightning sweeps.

No attacks in Indochina. Reinforcements get into place in southern Indochina, but we are low on AT weapons at Cam Ranh Bay, plus they can and are being bombarded.

Positive bombardment attacks on Honshu and Shikoku for Japan.

Allies naval bombard here and there, really all over the place from Sabang to Nagoya.

Tough day in the air...but we can pull back now that the Hyuga is sunk.

Well, I guess we dropped 3 B29s. Pitiful.

Even with stockpiling set to on, the production system will every now and then march to it's own drummer.

Here we make some motorized support with my 113 daily vehicle points...there is just 3 vehicle points in the pool.

Is the production system looking ahead at some reinforcement ground units that need them? In a few days a 47mm Rapid Fire autocannon units reinforces and would be a likely suspect since it has motorized support in their TOE.

You can see I have made a fair amount of motorized support this month, and the usage goes to units coming from the arrival cue.

Stockpiling only impacts the usage, not the production. If you have units with reinforcements on, in need of Mot Support, and the Mot Support pool is low, then the production AI will build some. Now, if you don't use them, then the production AI won't build more in subsequent turns.
So, you do not have perfect control with the stockpiling, but you do have some control.

Thanks, Pax, you are of course quite correct!

There is always new units that come along that need mot support, draining the pool, and hence the AI subsequently builds more.

I don't find this troubling, just something to understand and account for.

It is quite amazing to see Japan ramping up her strength, and the best part of it is that most troops have a very short transit time to fight the allies, whereas Allied reinforcements have a long way to go.

"Super." They only carry 20 more mines than a regular sub, IIRC. I got excited about them at first, but then less so after I looked it up.

I guess that depends. The stockpiles are strong.

Most of the industry is a burning slag pile. I do make 15K supplies daily though, and supply drain on Honshu was flat for the last month.

Vehicle production pool is zero & production is 113 daily. Don't do this kids! It would be so sweet to have 500 Type 3 Tanks out and about.

Planes are around 670 a month.

You are obviously a glass is half empty kind of guy!

Deliver twice the mineload, at almost 1/2 the speed. What is not to love!

I didn't think I was going to live to see these Rocket units in action, the first comes in play in China, the following two on Honshu.

They will be fun!

Some other good artillery tubes coming shortly too, anything 15cm and greater make for great AT weapons, and I have come to really appreciate the 47mm rapidfire AT guns too.

A lot of playing with Japan is understanding the TOE, and proper use of artillery to stall ground attacks.

The Allies keep bombarding Kobe, and today they bring out the big girls to bombard. A destroyer hits a type 88 mine, too.

Allies bomb Yokohama, 27k fires, and Okayama which only has 8k fires. The 12 cm guns at Yokohama ultimately bring down 4 B29s.

But, the Allies score 500 victory points, and this is why the game won't last past Jan 1, 1945.

Indochina

Cam Ranh Bay suffers heavy bombing and a deliberate attack.

Hue line is strengthened with reinforcements, and I am sending more troops to Cam Ranh Bay to counter the allied tanks. The 1st Tank will reinforce north of Dalat, or be held in reserve in the area.

Here you can see the Allies sending up river destroyer forces. Shanghai has CD guns, but I don't think there are any others on the river. Plus a total lack of mines.

Didn't think that thru.

Lots of worthless merchant ships upriver...victory points on the hoof so to speak.

B29s at low altitude on port strikes. Anything in range, disbanded in port dies.

I will hopefully get some mines in the river this day. I had always assumed there were some static CD guns along the river, and I never double checked.

Shanghai has a couple of 8cm DP guns, but seeing as they're little more than glorified AA guns I wouldn't expect much. The argument can be made to move the Hong Kong CD unit to Shanghai - they might be of more use there.

It may also be worthwhile to check the manual regarding straits. I can't recall if Shanghai is a wide strait or a narrow strait, but I'm pretty certain that there are narrow straits further up the Yangtze.

Narrow straits = better CD gun performance.

I think you can enter the river from the east and avoid Shanghai.

I don't think I ever thought of that.

I sent a few xakls downriver to absorb air strikes and or naval destroyer task forces. Plus I laid a few mines, and I am searching for some CD guns I can get into the headwaters. There are some guns upriver. I will make a note of it and put it up in the AAR as time allows, as I don't really remember this happening in other games.

After consulting the manual, there are no narrow straits in China, but the manual does state that the effects of a navigable river are similar to narrow straits. Might be worth clogging the river with mines. I do like the idea of using the Yangtze as a dumping ground for excess shipping - leaving them in undocked task forces up-river, protected by CAP, naval mines and some destroyers seems the best way to save your shipping from being farmed for VP's...

June 28th, 1944

A quiet day in the far west of the Empire...I guess stalemating the Allies here only means one thing, and that is an invasion to bypass the Vietnam.

Almost all Chinese coastal ports are now garrisoned with at least a division. However, all anti-tank units are in very scarce supply and a tank heavy invasion will easily open up the coast.

Chaos, death and destruction reign as Allied destroyers steam all the way to Hankow. Amazing. No mines hit, no CD guns fire, just a nice cruise up river.

Too funny!
