There is just so many troops here, no amount of bombing can degrade them all. An important lesson to learn for this kind of meat grinder.

9 Allied Units present,up from 4 yesterday. I need to evacuate to Kobe...but first they must unpack. The runways are repaired...we will be sending all the fighters here. Surely the Allies will anticipate this move...but we must I think.

It took the Allies 11 days to lose over 1000 points of Airplanes, and they just crossed the 26,000 point level for the game.

In the same period Japan lost 250 points of planes and stands at 34,000 points lost for the game.

Oh, for a 1000 Jacks,Franks or Georges...even Oscars!

Other interesting facts: in the last 20 days I have spent 9,000 armament points.

I have 83,000 left for the next three months...but don't really expect to spend like that again, as I rebuilt all the AA and ART that was wiped out in Vietnam.

And, in truth, there simply isn't a lot of reinforcements in the cue for the next 105 days or so.

Yeah, I'm not going to get to that point. I've never understood this.

What, you don't drink?

To excess, and I don't even have kids.

You know what I meant!

My kids have flown the coop & were never a reason to drink. A long time, before kids, we had tropical fish. They went bye bye with kids as we added dogs and a cat. The cat lives on (do they ever die?), and a dog would interfere with trips and such too much.

So, now, have set up a small tank and stocked it with a flaming peach Betta that keeps me company as I pound out the turns. A $3.50 pet...right up my alley. But can he live as long as the game. With a lifespan of 2-5 years...maybe if I do my part.

He reminds me of the Shokaku for some reason...or her sister ship. Pretty smart little guy, a lot like Pavlov's dogs.

Sept 17, 1944

Deep in the Yellow Sea the Allies push hard...

Japan's last two battleships are toast -- unless they made port and disbanded prior to this attack.

Doubtful.

A dozen Jill, kamikazes, the Divine Wind, fly under the CAP and impale themselves upon the murderous Allied AA batteries...no hits.

Only bad weather can save the Japanese BBs now...

And she goes down in the afternoon!

Allies scatter their bombing across Honshu and avoid Okayama...

but they bombard. Looks like there will be a big fight come the morrow.

Okayama...I will be here for a few days as the troops unpack.

Forts 3.

Open Terrain.

19 Allied Units...including most of the Marine Corp.

It will be ugly!

New Devices shortly...if the Allies don't take Chiba that is.

I just worked my way thru the destroyed units list, picking those to rebuild. Artillery and AA are must rebuilds, but infantry and engineer are tougher.

At some point the infantry won't be able to rebuild its strength and morale fast enough to be worth spawning again. Bear in mind there is approximately a 30 day delay in the unit spawning at Tokyo.

And then there are aviation engineers: on one hand the aviation engineer units have inherent AA, only 20mm or 25mm, but it is AA. Additionally, they are among the first units that act as a sponge for naval and aerial bombardments. But on the other hand they cost supply. Supply to spawn, supply to reinforce, supply to feed daily.

I believe I am ok with armaments for the rest of the game, but I am worried about the horrendous toll in supplies that I am losing to Allied air attacks on Honshu. Rebuilding units costs that much more!

So, it is a pickle. So for now I am still rebuilding the infantry, but only selectively turning replacements on. A destroyed infantry division or brigade or regiment can rebuild the artillery component very quickly and then turned off -- and then they act as artillery and can be of great value I think at minimum supply cost. Also, there is the potential that the Allies look at sigint and see the 2nd Guards Division at a base and decide not to invade, or wait for better prep.

IJA 43 squads are being rebuilt everywhere, as those troopers rock.

I am deep into the manufacturing of devices, and have stockpiled many, many units which really limits their manufacture.

Thanks, but you are giving short shrift to Mind-Messing, Andav and NJP to name just three that have current games going and are doing much better than me.

In a scenario one game, like this one (which is scenario 6) watch Obvert's game.

I am getting kicked around like a dead rat, here.

But I am learning a lot....and, surprisingly still having lots of fun. Even when my BB's catch twenty or thirty bombs.

All my northern E's, routed past Daito and towards the northern tip of Luzon look to make the journey. If I can get them into the SRA & PI sinking submarines they will make back their VP and do great work.

The southern E's got caught by a Fletcher task force, so I actually sortied the Katsuragi and about 100 bombers to try and catch those Fletchers...but they never came close enough to Luzon to be hit. 4 E's and 1 Matsu class DD have made the southern approach and are now working in the SRA/PI.

The Matsu had it's first encounter with a submarine yesterday...and didn't do too well but at least it wasn't sunk. But it does have 33% system damage from an encounter with Fletchers it survived. A short rest at Soerabaja and then back to the war.

I really like the Matsu class...

Very happy with my mass breakout from Tokyo and Yokohama. I didn't think I would get any thru....and I got at least a dozen to Luzon/SRA and sank 5 PT boats to boot! Quite the success.

Also, all three SSTs' escaped Kobe and are taking supplies to the starving garrison at Daito. A lot of the garrison at Daito is being flown to Formosa currently. I get 2 more SSTs over the next 3 days...a big boost in getting supplies back to where I need them. This slowdown in China has allowed me to make great strides in getting supply there. 6,000 units arrive tomorrow.

In this focus on the western half of Honshu...Nagoya's engineers have been busy and will reach forts level 2 tomorrow.

I am betting that I can sacrifice western Honshu and still have VP's left to hold on till Jan.

I am also hoping the garrison requirements will dilute some of the strength of the Allies.

Just waiting here...supply is getting better. Just need more time to get the supply here from the SRA.

All of my SST's will be running in supply from Miri to southern China. 320 supply a trip which will help immensely, plus supply being landed at Wenchow to Amoy is finally making it's way west, too.

300% supply at Hong Kong is a reserve to be released upon need. Shanghai also has a 300% supply reserve.

Allied troops in Vietnam are probably getting their 'webbed feet' for some amphib ops.

I still shake my head when I see a screenshot of Japan. Not enough places where the Allies should have landed like the NE part and after capture made them backwater bases that don't require major forces.

Two major heavy signal intercepts from Saigon...so I suspect you are right about the invasion.

Cut him some slack, this is the first time (either of us) has gotten this far in the game so some mistakes are to be expected.

He has made so very few operational mistakes.

Finished the turn, perhaps we can get in two today.

Both Battleships are making for Port Arthur, to protect the port (yeah, right) and to sit under the 350 plane air umbrella.

I am hoping the Kongo has a chance to disband and have the port facilities put out the fire before the dawn air strikes while the other BB absorbs all the attacks.

A destroyer will try foil some of the Allied plans by making a high speed run to Shanghai. 0 Moonlight, so perhaps we might catch a big ship with torpedoes.

I set some Myojo on 2 hex strike from Moppo in the hopes of catching either reinforcements coming, or ships leaving the area.

Other planes, despite the 0 moonlight, are set to night naval strikes.

The troops at Okayama will need to rely upon their AA for protection, I am wondering if the Marine corp will attack today? I will have almost 5,000 AV there behind level 3 forts. It will be interesting.

I am really bad at predicting the Allied Deathstar's future movement as the night passes really quietly. Only two bombardments by the Allies.

No engagements by sprinting destroyers, no clash of battleships at Port Arthur...

What will the daytime bring...350 fighters over Port Arthur...will there be Allied strikes?

175 Jugs or Spitfires sweep Okayama, back at 42K feet. Oh my. Another 50-100 seem to provide LRCAP.

No Japanese fighters present. They are either repairing or at Port Arthur & some at Keijo ( a SC trap).

A few planes bomb Okayama, their mistake as nearly 100 percent of them are destroyed flak.

4E have a rare day off.

It is really difficult for me to understand how the Allies let me retreat almost 100% of my troops from western Honshu...

Matsumaya has supplies, level 3 fort, and will take time to get to.

2 more days for all the troops to unpack at Okayama, and then I need to think about retreating to Kobe....I think I will make it.

I sank something during the night, no idea what it was...

All my E's are pretty safe at the sanctuary that is Luzon. Clark and Manila are nice sized fields, but usually under recon, so a lot of planes are operating inland which has never been reconned.

Cabanatuan goodness...a rude surprise is in store if Fletchers cruise by. A rude surprise for me if a CV force swings by, but you never know...it isn't the deathstar in this area. I have a shot at penetrating the CAP here.

Port Arthur...is there a chance of getting this freshly upgraded Iboat away.

And then, in Dec she upgrades to Kaiten! She would have 5-6 days of operating as a Kaiten sub before the end of the game, if I can last till then.

Dare I hope?

Well, first she has to survive the next three days here at Port Arthur.

The addition of rocket artillery has turned the tide on bombardments here at Osaka. More artillery on the way everywhere in Honshu....

Artillery is Japan's not so secret weapon. Pay attention to the tubes, size, effect, air mobility and rebuild anything that carries a tube (while stockpiling everything else) and overwhelm the Allies with artillery.

The God of War!
