I'm constantly amazed with how effective your torpedo boats are against all odds.
To think of it, my usual practice with them was to gather the starting 7 and forget them in some backwater port. And them are beasts doing more damage to allied shipping now than the rest of Kaigun combined )

Nothing magical, I make sure I have good captains and I swamp the area with night naval search which is what I think really helps if the encounter takes place after the air phase at night. I also greatly prefer no moonlight and was helped yesterday by thunderstorms too!

Almost on page two bump.

Allies taking a sabatical to wipe the blood off their wing-tips?

Keep up the good fight. It is probably as inspiring to the readers as much as it might be depressing to you to grind thru some turns.

No, it was me. On vacation trip, and then I installed some new hardware and had some problem getting the game up and running with it.

I will finish my turn this evening at the latest and back on schedule.

I need some, not this game alas.

Finished the turn, and it is grim, but at least I have escaped to eastern Honshu with almost all my troops. Certainly, all my troops I wanted to evac from western Honshu.

I am sending a ML into harms way tonight! Banzai.

Sept 23, 1944

The ML tangles with 10 PT boats off Oita, damages one PT and escapes back to Hiroshima.

A few night attacks, but no joy here.

Allies bombard the fortress at Oita, but they still have some teeth.

Oita holds, other bases fall.

5400 AV of troops back in Kobe. The ML is still alive.

Allied tanks attack and we stop them decisively. Unfortunately the rest of the Allied army shows up too.

Coastal guns sink two more AMs yesterday, and something hits a mine...

Destroyed ships listed for the day.

You have convinced me as to the value of the smaller Japanese coastal gun emplacements that are dotted around the Home Islands. Not so much for their worth in sinking ships, but their value in making minesweeping a chore for the Allies.

They haven't done that well in any other role, but the fear of mines makes them earn back their VP pretty well.

Even one set of 4 8cm guns can prove deadly to Allied minesweepers.

The Allies reconquest of China is off...he is moving on Lang Son with 3700+ AV. My 600 AV of dug in defenders holds, but only for today. Combined air attacks and ground attacks will do them in shortly.

My divisions from the western coastal towns are heading back to the jungles. They haven't been attacked from the air yet in the hexes they are now in...

Really, given my paucity of supply I can only set up road blocks and look to buy a day here, and a day there.

The Allied spearhead is 34 units, with 20+ in reserves moving forward. Even if the Allies split their forces I will need 1500+ to mount a credible position and I don't have that much force and certainly not enough supplies or AA. Looks bleak, but if I can buy time here.

Beyond our wildest dreams the escape to Kobe has been pulled off! Who would have thought that?

Interestingly enough I pulled the few Dinah's off Recon of Osaka and the damage from my masses artillery has plummeted to 1 device. With recon I was getting 10-15. Of course there are more Allied forces here, but I think the recon has played a large part.

I tried concentrating all my CD guns in one hex, in an attempt to punish naval bombardments using DE's. The result has been a failure.

Okayama has only 277 supply and an engineering unit whose only device is a radar set, plus two stragglers from the west, both engineering units. So all the non static units and supply have made it to Kobe.

I disbanded a fighter unit a while back...and I guess it came back, past it's withdrawl date.

36 points a day, accumulated loss 2600.

I have been bouncing around on computers and not really using tracker much lately but I will have to look into this.

If true, that really hurts.

High drama in other AARs currently, but this one is down to the nitty gritty.

In a few more days, there will be only 3 months left and it is going to be a nail biter for sure. With all the VP the Allies are going to get from western Honshu can I hold on and prevent autovictory at a 3-1 clip? Even if I don't make it, I am going to claim the moral high ground now and say I had lots of fun!

Finished my turn, and I am retreating in western China, trying to firm up my lines in the Western Chinese Mtns, and earn some victory points....I see lots of chances to do so, but supply almost everywhere is a problem. I seriously underestimated the supply needs of China!

I formed another division...and would like to save my PP to buy out another Manchuko Division for China, but I am 1000 points shy. Oh well.

I decided to LRCAP Oita today, have my least damaged BB make a run along the western Yellow Sea and try to get to Luzon, lay some more mines, ship more supply from SRA back to Luzon/Formosa/China.

Soon it will be October!

Lowpe, Your spirited defense is a big morale booster for me (playing Japan, March, 1943, starting to get attacked on all sides)!
There are always a small nuggets for the Japanese - like when a squadron of Nicks on strafing kills a dozen of P-40Ks, or when Ki-43-Ic (last Ki-43-Ic Sentai in Burma kills off a dozen of Beaufighters trying to strafe their home field) :D

During the day, my LRCAP of Oita is swept by Mustangs, bad but there is still some fighters there when the Jugs come and wipe them out. Just can't get sufficient numbers up to LRCAP against sweeps...

My super ASW convoy pursues their attacks from the morning into the afternoon with plane detection and a solid ASW attack scoring 2 direct hits.

I need those VP!

Perhaps a thousand sorties flown against the Japanese defenders, then hit with overwhelming force. Not a good day on the ground...
