More bad news on the Chinese front...no hope of stopping him as 6 big Chinese Corp will now push on to Chungking...I have only about two divisions there. I have degraded two of those Corp...but he had 30 more on the way.

The Allied Tank Army to the south is slicing thru me like a hot knife thru butter.

I very quickly ran some rough victory point calculations at losing Chengtu and Chungking will give the Allies about a .3 boost in the VP Ratio. I can survive that...but it is getting very close.

Very close, indeed!

VP ratio improved by .004 for the Allies, raising it to 2.331 to 1 -- the 8th day it has been over 2.3 to 1.

I need to slow down his growth, but not sure what I can do!

Like most AAR games I have seen here, when China starts to fall...it falls fast. Japan simply doesn't have enough troops to protect the coastline and stop the Chinese/Commonwealth. For me, the job is even more difficult at supplies are gone in China and the Allies have total uncontested control of the air.

Do I throw the coastal city divisions forward to try and hold Canton and Hong Kong for as long as possible, or simply try to build points of resistance to slow down the Allies forward progress which means trying to stop the forward tanks from marauding all across China. Or simply fall back, and fall back.

Perhaps there is no solution, as my wonderful artillery, that had stymied the Allied tanks for so long from Burma to Vietnam, was wiped out in Vietnam...and now there is almost no anti tank weapons left in China. Some at Canton, some cut off on the mountain road in north west China.

I only have to last about 70 more days...

This game will sit for a while, as I ponder it in the back processes of my mind, and finish off a turn in another multiverse...one where Japan is sipping Corona's on Huntington Beach and finding the surfing quite acceptable.

Ha!

Lowpe, this game is amazing! I can't believe you're still fighting this hard. It's a true testament to your resilience.

Having been there I don't think anything will stop them but x3 terrain with troops dug in. Maybe some river crossings into a LU/HU or x3 base with forts built up. So if there is any way to lure him to high VP goals that are tough to take, that seems like your only hope of getting a good result.

Keep going and may the end be honorable!

China - Role Reversal

At war's beginning, an Allied player has to defend in x3 terrain where the stacking limits are relatively low and supplies may flow enough to allow units to get forts to level 2 or 3 (maybe a 4 here and there). For Japan in late war, you must do the same thing. Holding onto bases may not be best for you now. Find a place in the country to dig in, IMO.

Thanks for the tips guys!

I am playing for VP retention, and the problem with digging in in tough terrain, is being bypassed.

Although I have done that in the mountains against the Chinese, I have two 1000 point AV redoubts with forts 4 in mtn terrain. Unfortunately he is moving 30 units against me.

Have I mentioned this is a no stacking limit game.

If you can make a hold in a x3 hex with dug in troops his losses could be significant, especially the Chinese. they don't like attacking forts/x3 terrain.

If troops are dug in now just don't move them, even at rik of losing them all. Sometimes the Allies will try to clean up those spots, not bring enough and waste their troops.

Yep.

So i have a question for you. Did those divisions need to be split to build the 4 forts? I've never had a division build more than two unless it was split into regiments.

Pretty sure I broke them down to dig into level four forts and then recombined them.

I've got a division in the woods somewhere that has reached level 4 forts without being split. It just takes forever.

All morning Japanese troops and runways are bombed.

The poor pitiful defenders of Matsumaya...

The runways in southern Korea...

The troops fighting in western China...

But, still, we find the opportunity to strike back...

Allies are moving forward aggressively...but look at the reported direction of the 6 Chinese corps at Kweiyang!

Could Chungking not be a tactical goal of the Allies?

Dare I to believe it?

Ha! Have both my turns done, and it feels good.

My Lilly IIc divebombers ran into 9 fletchers, and the Flak they put up is a killer.

I may have a surprise next turn if he keeps pushing forward into the PI with them. The KB might sortie!

My 2 battleships are still repairing their system damage...

October is almost gone...and here comes November. I fear November might be it.

The pounding that Japan is taking is truly horrendous. I think there are almost 10 fleets bombarding Honshu daily; Allied bombers are putting down tons of ordinance daily. You truly have to be here to feel it all --the terrible swift fury that is the Allies.

The runway attacks have really eaten up my supply stockpiles...amazing to see. If I could have done it over, I think building up Yokohama as the huge supply stockpile with good forts and plenty of AA would make sense. Hopefully the high forts and heavy AA would minimize losses. Barring that, you could do Tokyo, but I like Yoko better for this role.

I have done a good job in sinking Allied ships but it is never enough. I can't begin to tell you how many ships I lost in ports to B29 strikes, and the others on stupid bombardment runs gone bad.

I like the fact that you have not given up, this has been a great lesson in how to fight a ground war in japan.

Honshu bombarded by battleships, cruisers and destroyers.

Honshu runways bombed to dust by Allied bombers.

Chinese and Allied Armies on the march in China.

My mountain festungs are bypassed...Chinese taking the low road.

VP ratio only improved .001 last turn, gotta like that. But it stands at 2.336 to 1.

10 more days in October...

60 more days till Jan 1...

How can I pull this off...can Honshu hold for 70 more days. 70 times 11 Battleships bombarding Honshu daily. OUCH! Not to mention the B29, the B24s, and everything else.

Kweiyang held for one day versus the 1300 Tanks of the Commonwealth Army...

There are 37 units marching to join the 7 Chinese Corp (700AV each) near Kweiyang.

There are 8 Chinese units marching thru the woods north and west of Chungking.

Allies bomb runways and cities in China, in Honshu, but not in Manchuko or Korea.

The Shinnan ran out of fuel, but she led the Allies on a merry multi day chase allowing other ships to escape and even letting the Army Divebombers a chance at hitting the pursuing Fletchers.

Dead in the water, she absorbed 27 hits before finally going down.

VP ratio increase by .004 (boohiss), in part due to large land VP (about 230 points inflicted on Japan).

It now stands at 2.340 to 1.

Three Allied Carrier Task Forces are providing the muscle to sweep deep into China...and then the B24 and B29 come calling.

At least there is almost no supply for the bombers to actually destroy.
