Kobe & Osaka - As Allies, isolate, place two divisions in each base, move units across to gain control of all hexsides, move on....

Garrison requirements - how many troops do the Allies have to keep in Home Island bases??

It is not onerous.. 20AV - 100 AV for a keycity

Some are that low but others are much higher. I don't have a turn open to look, but in my game (Babes 28) I know that Tokyo is no 100 AV.

True, Kobe is 340 and Osaka is 1020 but that is the exception, not the rule.

Oct 25, 1944

Only a few more days to make November.

A quiet day, relatively, only 6 Allied planes down to 0 for Japan. Mostly he bombed the troops at Matsumaya and also bombed a lot in China.

No ships sunk...

No traps activated...

I am going to mass what is left of my Helens at Sian and Ankang to bomb the Chinese troops (2 Corp) as they enter the central Chinese plains. I will fly at 2000 feet, and actually have some supply so I hope that will further delay the Allied advance against Chungking.

Kweiyang has 26 Allied units....I doubt anything will be able to stop them but supplies and Allied timidity.

Kongo is at Yingkow, a size 2 port, but we are almost repairing a point a day. I will send in more naval squads...but Yingkow has the advantage of not having recon planes flying over it daily.

Kongo's repairs have been delayed by needing to move her from port to port to avoid detection.

No naval squads at Denpassar...it is all repair ships, but we are making steady progress on the Fuso.

Hard to believe she was savaged off Shanghai and made it all the way here for repairs.

The KB, all of one fleet carrier, is hiding out in the PI. She sortied twice in the last two months...I need to do a little work on her air contingents.

Hasn't really been high on my todo list...

Tracker gives the vp ratio at 2.316 to 1, up .005 for the day on 197 points lost. Allies gained 281 points, while Japan lost 116 due to troop losses and probably low supply.

I still have a cushion, but I fear another landing on Honshu will do me in tied with the loss of Chungking. The naval bombardments are savaging my troops, even behind level 5 or 6 forts...and they keep coming, and coming, and coming.

I am hoping the Allies will miscalculate their broad advance in China and I will be able to hold, for a little while, at Canton and Changsha. Plus any delays I can garner in the defense of Chungking will be well worth it hence the bombing runs planned for the Chinese in the Central Plains.

Rather than using my BBs to fight his surface fleets, I am thinking the best use is a CAP trap in the Yellow Sea.

Tally ho, lots of fighting left to do.

PS: I am probably going to crack like a rotten egg here...I doubt I can stop the Allies on Honshu.

If these bombers can make it to the target...they should be able to do some damage.

This is against the two Chinese Corps heading to the central Chinese plains.

Turn is away...setting up to hit those Chinese troops, perhaps even get in a cap trap versus the bombers against the troops in China too.

I have a few bastion bases of supplies, that have good AF and no recon by the Allies. After having been quiet so long, it will feel good to put the hurt on the Allies in the air for once over China.

Probably won't work out that way, but you never know.

Allies have to get approximately 300 ships hiding up river, well hiding no more. Bases in western China are 10 hexes away, but the carriers strike mostly today from 10 hexes also.

Who says you can't get a 10 hex raid in? It isn't a coordinated strike, but rather dribs and drabs, but they still get to attack.

Plus destroyers coming up river in numbers...

He really wants those ships.

I have been trying to fiddle with the stockpiles to keep the type 3 tanks building, but I failed miserably this month.

Finally I turned off all replacements except for some tank units and they started being made again just recently. Prior to that I had been reinforcing some artillery units, and reinforcement units arriving where eating up the vehicle points usually in motorized support.

All the monthly figures here are very questionable, except for the type 3 tanks. I don't know where they come from...my vehicle production is shot, except for one factory at Keijo (an oversight I am sure on the Allies part...83 vehicle factories working there).

No way did I build 357 type 95 tanks for example.

Supply at 1 million, really I need two million.

I will try to do something innovative and tricky with all the merchant ships on the river in China, but low supply will really curtail my ability. Plus the Allies have done a good job of savaging the runways all around.

Still, I think I can pull something out of my hat.

I am sure B29s will be hitting the ports, and they do unbelievable amounts of damage...it is like their bombs never miss when on port strikes. The number of ships I have lost that way is just amazing.

Allies seem to be taking a breath on Honshu...waiting for prep, supplies, or shipping -- but the bombardments continue.

My troops are still holding out in the nooks and crevices of Matsumaya. Not many left there though...

Lots of Chinese in those two units.

I put them under recon now, getting ready to bomb them when they hit the open ground.

Three bases with big runways, and more importantly plenty of stockpiled supply stand ready. The planes are building up: every FB left in the empire, 1 sentai of Oscar and another of Tony (neither full), and all the Helens left (about 200) that aren't kamikazes.

I know it will be disappointing, and if the LRCAP is heavy...well, hopefully the Oscars and Tonies can do something about them. Ok, lets not go there.

30 days worth of reinforcements...not much to get excited about here.

The Naval Guards have some 47 mm AT guns.

The Glider unit is neat in name.

The Raiding Tank has some decent light tanks, I think they are my second armored unit with the Type 2 Light Tank which isn't terrible. It is such a let down to get those tanks in June, and nothing uses them till November.

On the river, several small task forces, PBs, E's mostly rush downriver in an attempt to sell their lives against the Allied destroyers heading up river.

The three hundred merchants move downriver too, where they will make their stand away from runways and ports. Protected by two destroyers and about 100 planes flying long range CAP.

To few, but what else can I do.

Along the Chinese coast, the only warship available, an E, will charge the Deathstar.

Again, what else can I do.

Transports are busy flying air HQ off Honshu and more are flying them to Sian.

A stand is being developed for Changsha, but the Allies have so many tanks heading their way. So many tanks...

....so much supply sitting in San Fran and/or LA awaiting transport. Probably over 50 million worth.

Ah, Michael. Your cheery posts about the war capabilities of the Allied war machine always brings to my day a ray of sunshine!

There you succinctly found the silver lining...if only I could do something about hitting his supply line. I still have a few light cruisers left, but they are notoriously short legged beasts...but perhaps I can get them out into the Pacific somehow. They wouldn't have to sink many ships to earn their points back.

I have been thinking of doing that with the Katsuragi...but she would have to sink a lot to earn back her points.

Any major Allied base with less than 100k in supply is short of supply! Should have a yellow or red exclamation point.

Some more rainbows, puppies and unicorns from Micheal for you Lowpe ...

You just keep trying to scrape up 2k supplies in one base and your fellow Japanese players will applaud your success!

I actually have some bases with more than that Andav, but boy the red exclamation points are popping up fast. I won't release the supply from the relatively safe from bombing bases until I really need it.

I kind of like how they boosted my VP score over a thousand points. A nasty trick to pull off near the end game.

That comes as no surprise...I know how those shore bombardments eat up supply -- especially when every ship fires at a range of 1, day after blessed day.

I have to say this game, witp AE in general, is a lot more fun when there is only one of them going on.

I am enjoying the hiatus from my other game, about 60 turns left in this one. Less if the Allies follow Michael's advice, more if they keep slogging on the way they are slogging.

I suspect I will be in for a rude surprise when the next Allied Invasion lands.

And when I lose 300 cargo ships...2000+ VP there I bet.

And then Chungking falling...a double whammy as it removes VP from my denominator!

As this game winds down, lots of AARs mention great units or big battles or the turning point.

I am not going to do that.

Instead, I am assessing reader participation and will hand out some awards to you, the dear reader.

Hopefully this doesn't offend anyone, and I am coming up with several different awards.

Everyone won't be getting an award. So don't get offended if you don't, but, hey, you can hand out your own awards too!

Feel free.

No worries - we should all be grown up enough to cope with being left out of other people's award decisions and just reward ourselves!
Now I have to decide: beer, wine or Magnum Ice Cream bars!
