3rd Allied Impulse:

Land Combat (continued):
In Belgium, the attack last impulse put many German units disorganized. France attacks one of those stacks and with the Disruption bonus and HQ support get a nice over +9 modifier.

Germany again chooses the Blitz table and it works again. All three units are shattered. France doesn't lose any units.

4th Axis Impulse:

Weather:
A roll of 3 puts bad weather in the Arctic, and both Monsoon areas.

Actions:
GE Land
IT Land
JA Combined

Naval Moves:
JA moves some of the forces from Singapore back towards mainland China.

Land Combat:
Italy decides not to attack Athens yet, but 4 other attacks are declared this impulse.

The first is in Vladivostok where the Japanese look to take the factory city. Even with shore bombardment a low roll keeps the city in Soviet hands. They kill off the MIL who can probably be put right back in next turn. Sigh.

4th Allied Impulse:
Axis rolls a 9, turn keeps going.

Actions:
All Allies PASS, giving them a 40% chance of ending the turn. They roll a 1. Turn Over.

very short May/Jun turn. The Axis margin of error is already pretty small here, and a short prime-attack turn is death.

Here are the losses for the bloody first turn of the war

Weather:
9 - Fine everywhere, Storms in N. Monsoon

Actions:
Germany wants to use at least one of their offensives this turn.

1st round, Allies roll a 14, Germany must abort, and chooses their front fighter. Axis rolls a 12, no effect. Even odds.

1st Axis Impulse:

Land Combat:
Overall, not much movement in Belgium/France, but the Germans are moving some second echelon forces south thru Switzerland to assist in the efforts down there.

Italy declares an attack on Nice, France, bringing some ground support as well

1st Axis Impulse:

Land Combat (continued):
Here is the results of that attack. Italy has a +10.75 modifier (including Graziani HQ support). A victory here will close up the Italian supply lines.

France chooses the Assault table.

... are you kidding me? Italy gets the fractional (+11) but rolls a 4! They lose 2 units, all disorganized, but Nice is taken.

Italy's turn is over in France on the first impulse, pretty much.

The Axis moves on to two Japanese attacks. Japan chooses to attack the Nationals again, this time in the city of Ichang. They are able to get a +10.5 modifier. China chooses the Blitz table.

Japan gets the fractional, and rolls a 14, killing the unit.

Still can't believe that roll of 4... anyways, Japan then rolls a 20 on an attack where they have a +16.333 modifier. Waste, but Vladivostok is now in Japanese hands.

1st Allied Impulse:

Ground Strikes (continued):
Air to Air over Poland, where three Soviet strikes are all launched. Germany can only intercept one, a Russian long-range TAC trying to disrupt Germany's strongest armored stack. Axis has +2/-2 advantage.

1st round, Axis rolls a 8, aborting the Soviet TAC. Allies roll a 16, aborting the German FTR. Air combat over.

In three Air to Air, Axis roll 10, 9, and 8, crappy middle of the dice rolls. Allies roll 17, 3, and 16.

This war is pretty much a stand-up fight and it seems that in a stand up fight you are going to get even damage on both sides. Only problem is that the Axis margin of error is so small, that 'normal' losses are not sustainable. I'm really not sure how the Axis, who have to attack in this war, can ever win. The luck they have to have over a consistently long time is not reliable.

I may have to rethink this scenario. At least so far no units disrupted for the Axis, but we still have a couple of other strikes to show.

Final strike against Von Bock HQ. Another miss and as if by magic, the one hit the Soviets get is probably the most important one, the HQ.
