When I examine the OOBs for the units in the JT Battleground series, everything makes sense until I get to the last number which is supposed to correspond to an image on the ICONS3D bmp files. Does anyone know how those ICONS3D bmp files are coded?

The reason I'm asking has to do with my desire to produce better looking 3D graphical images along the same lines as the mods done for the various HPS Civil War and Napoleonic games.

I've actually attempted to produce a couple of lines of new 3D images but when I attempt to test them out in the game, the old images are still there. What am I doing wrong?

Okay - I'm going to partially answer my own question.

According to some information I've stumbled across in the last 15 minutes after months of searching, here is the way the Matrix Battleground OOBs are constructed -

UnitDescription =
U [UnitStrength] [QualityRating] [UnitType] [UnitWeapon] [UnitPicture] [State] [UnitName]

LeaderDescription =
L [CommandRating] [LeadershipRating] [Aggressiveness Rating] [LeaderName]

GunboatDescription =
G [UnitStrength] [QualityRating] Z [UnitPicture] [GunboatName]

SupplyUnit =
S [UnitStrength] [UnitPicture] Supply Wagon

Please note that the last number in the unit description in the Matrix Battleground OOBs refers to the STATE where the unit was formed, and that state is found on the ICONS2D.BMP file.

Evidently, none, I repeat NONE, of the information in the Matrix Battleground OOBs has any connection to the way the units are portrayed on the map. I still don't have a clue how that's done. As a side note, and an improvement in my opinion, the HPS OOBs link directly to a unit line in one of the 3DUnits100x bmp files.

For anyone else who may be interested, I've broken the code since my last posting. Once you've made any changes to the ICONS3D bmp file, you then make a copy of that file and change the extension to .BIT. That will give you two new files, ICONS3D.BMP and ICONS3D.BIT. Now, go into the Matrix Battleground ACW game you wish to mod, copy the original ICONS3D.BMP and ICONS3D.BIT files and paste them into a new folder in case you want to restore them at a later date. Now, take your new files and copy and paste them into the game you want to modify. Start your game and this image is what you should see (Gettysburg sample - 2nd Day)-

Once I get all of the wrinkles ironed out, I'll post a link to my Box account to allow anyone interested to download the mod.
