Curaçao Crisis, 2021

Two scenarios one US-UK-Netherlands intervention in a Venezuelan occupation of Curacao and a Second with a French-UK-Netherlands intervention.

Note: right now tankers, don't have a mission as there is a problem with UnReps right now. That will be adjusted in the future. For now just consider the tankers there for "Completeness."

Correction to South of Crete, 1985

An error crept in where the units could teleport with loading a saved game, this corrects that. Please ensure you run the scenario for about 2 seconds before you set up any missions.

The Libyan War, 1986

This is a might have been scenario, instead of the United States independently launching "Operation Eldorado Canyon" the United States and France decide on a joint operation to degrade the Libyan military and infrastructure. A couple of things...

1. Please read the description and side briefing. They really do explain a lot of how this mission is structured.
2. There is a emphasis in planning and putting your forces into position for their strikes. There is a 24 hour period for you to choose loadouts and position your vessels.
3. The scenario uses SUSTAINED air operations, some units can surge but most are sustained, so you may want to spread out your air assets to keep the pressure up, rather than launch one large, massive initial strike (I did that in one play test and it is slightly unmanageable, but your choice commander).
4. I have set up some aircraft loadouts where the ready times are 1 day, 20 hours or it just was a no brainer on load outs B-52hs, AEW/Elint, Tanker, ASW aircraft and some CVBG fighters/multirole aircraft.
5. The American OOB is an extension of units that were in Operation Attain Document, Operation Eldorado Canyon, 2nd Marine Air Wing (MAW) and 9th Tactical Air Force which split its role between reinforcing Europe and supporting Central Command.
6. Likewise the French OOB represents French Air Forces and naval forces in southern France forward deployed to Corsica.
7. There are no bases near Libya, except NAS Souda Bay, Crete/Greece and thus you will need to use tankers, you have about nine (9) squadrons of tankers to support the operations (thus the emphasis on sustained air ops!).
8. UK/RAF bases used are an extension on what was actually used (RAF Akrotiri was an alternative site which was used by one aircraft). The only base added was RAF Greenham Common for he B-52Hs.

So this scenario isn't for everyone, but if you take it on be prepared to plan for the long haul!

UPDATED 02-07-2021

Tafass, Syria, 2021

The Syrian 4th Armored Division operation against the Free Syrian Army (FSA) enclave near Tafass, SW Syria is actually ongoing right now (1/29/2021), with heavy fighting in the city. I extrapolated real world events and added a potential Syrian chemical strike as the mechanism to bring about a limited NATO/UAE/Jordanian strike to eliminate Syrian artillery/rockets near the city and provide limited support to the FSA.

Updated 02-23-2021

Updated based on a couple of things...
1. Syrian air units now have a free doctrine for air combat.
2. Gave the Ground Units an opportunity target command so they might be a bit more interactive.
3. Looked at it and the Syrians had entirely too many SA-6's
4. Moved SAM units to provide a more layered/Integrated Air Defense system. Should find the Syrian SAMs are more able to support each other.
5. Major adjustments to Syrian Aircraft and SAM doctrine and WRA.

Gulf of Sidra Incident, 1981

I have not heard any more feedback in a while, so I'm calling this one finished.

*****************
Alright, here is my first proper scripted scenario. Another 80s Gulf of Sidra Freedom of Navigation, but this has air operations only. I wanted to capture the passive-aggressive feeling of these FONs, and the "Are the Bogeys Hostile or Not?" question gives a lot of room to develop lua skills.

This is based on the historical incident, but with some randomization and highly fictionalized elements. I did Wikipedia & Google type "research" for this- not comprehensive by any means- so if anyone knows of any historical or operational details that would be easy to implement, please let me know.

I'm looking for any feedback. Specifically, what should the Complexity/Difficulty rating be?

Known Issues:
-Lua errors during the morning of Day 2 are cause by trying to reassign aircraft that were shot down during the previous day and should be harmless.

-There is only one escort for the task force right now...I'm not sure if the task force should be full scale or not, but it the one can just about handle everything that could be thrown at it, so I did not add any more.

Thanks.

This a prelude scenario to "To Kill the Queen, 2022" and represents the opening of the PRC-Japan/American conflict. It is predominantly an Amphibious Operations/Combat Cargo Scenario, everything else (and there is a lot else) is really just getting there. Only points are for taking Japanese out islands and taking airports.

PLEASE read the description and notes. Really you have to read them! just saying!

Built under C:MO v1.02 – Build 1147.23
Database: DB3000 v488

Background: On July 31st a Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) supply vessel on a resupply mission to Amboyna Cay, Spratley Islands was deliberately shouldered (rammed side-to-side) by a large PRC Coast Guard vessel. Two days later she returned with the VPN Gepard Class Frigate Đinh Tiên Hoàng (HQ-011) acting as escort. Upon arrival the VPN vessels confronted the PRC Coast Guard vessel blocking access to the pier area. After some frantic maneuvering the Zhaotou class cutter Haijing 2901 shouldered the Vietnamese frigate causing some damage. In the excitement the gun crew of the Đinh Tiên Hoàng‘s 76.2 mm/59-caliber AK–176 gun engaged the Chinese vessel raking the Bridge and killing 12 members of the crew including the both Ship’s Captain and Political Officer.

The engagement only took a few seconds but the damage was done. The Vietnamese vessels quickly retired making their best speed for their home port of Cam Ranh Bay. That evening they were found and engaged by four Su-30MKK fighter jets from Subi Reef dropping KAB-500L laser-guided bombs. Five bombs hit the supply vessel leaving it a burning hulk and two near misses caused severe damage to systems on the Gepard. After picking up survivors from the supply vessel the Đinh Tiên Hoàng returned at best speed to Cam Ranh Bay for repairs.

Tensions spiked between the PRC and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Accusations were traded in the U.N., Media and, most importantly, between both sides’ military commanders. PLA forces began a build up along the Vietnamese border drawing in Vietnamese reinforcements. Western analysts were on TV and radio hyping a repeat of the 1979 The Sino-Vietnamese War but the PRC leadership had no intention of crossing the border, the buildup was just a diversion. In fact, the PRC Central Military Commission determined a message must be sent to all of the counties disputing their South China Seas/Nine-Dash Line claims, the carrier Shandong, supported by H-6Ks would destroy the Đinh Tiên Hoàng and other vessels/facilities at Cam Ran Bay.

Saturday evening, August 14th, the Shandong Carrier Strike Group (CSG) departed Yulin Naval Base and turned west toward Haiphong harbor. This too was a ruse, after sunset and just outside the shipping lanes the CSG turned south and began a high-speed run toward Cam Ranh Bay. Meanwhile H-6Ks at Leiyang Air Base were readied with cruise missiles to support the attack. A Ming Class SSK and Type-093G SSN have also been assigned to support your attack and are taking up positions near Cam Ranh Bay.

Mission: Your mission is to destroy VPN vessels and facilities at Cam Ranh Bay while avoiding losses to your assets.

Over the next two and a half years the 20 remaining islanders were relocated from the island and the island was transformed into a major PLA(N) forward operating base. Not only was the runway lengthened to support very large MPA, attack and bomber aircraft, a power station, water facilities and communications centers were built and emplaced SAM batteries were identified by the U.S. DIA. The island’s port facility was enhanced to support PLA(N) vessels, and a hospital, barracks and athletic/soccer stadium built for base personnel.

The most interesting of the facilities built were six major weather shelters constructed well away from the airfield’s facilities. Each was near one of the radars, including an Over The Horizon (OTH) facility. Western speculation was that anything from S-400 batteries to IRBMs were housed in the shelters.

In response to the PRC construction, the USN reactivated the airfield on Johnson Island but without any significant facilities and only a skeleton staff. Aircraft can stage and refuel at the island but no reloads are available there.
Likewise, Palmyra Island’s airstrip was extended and reactivated. The base can also support some limited operations and has been hosting RQ-4 UAVs scouting the waters around Kanton Island.

On the 1st of November 2024 the PRC launched an invasion of Taiwan with air and missile strikes. PLA(N) Marines and PLA troops landed in the NW corner of the island. The United States, Japan, Australia and New Zealand immediately came to Taiwan’s defense. The air bases on Okinawa were hit with IRBMs and air launched cruise missiles putting them temporarily out of action but not before the squadrons based there gave a good accounting of themselves. PLAAF losses were three and, sometimes, five to one, with both sides air forces greatly attrited. A huge naval battle was fought southeast of Tokora Island with significant losses on both sides including the loss of the USS Ronald Reagan and PLANS Shendong. The battle over the East China Sea has settled into quick hit and run attacks by both sides. With Western forces awaiting the arrival of your Stennis CSG to open the sea lanes into Taiwan for resupply.

In the South China Sea, Australian and USAF aircraft stationed in the Philippines have taken the battle into the Spratlys and Paracel Islands. India joined the war on the 12th with the Indian carrier, INS Vikramaditya, sunk by DF-21D ASBMs launched from Hainan Island after causing massive damage to facilities on Fiery Cross Reef.

Your Stennis CSG arrived in Pearl Harbor on the 16th after an emergency deployment from Bremerton, WA. The escorting destroyers VLS systems were rapidly fitted out to carry a mix of multi-mission and land attack Tomahawk cruise missiles, along with SM-3 and SM-6 series ABMs. On the 18th you were called into CINC Pac Fleet’s HQ and given your instructions.
On the morning of the 20th your CSG departed Pearl Harbor following a path blazed by the carrier groups of 1942.

Mission: Your orders are to proceed, with all due caution, to strike and destroy facilities on Kanton Island. Your CSG assets are vital and needed for the reinforcement of the naval forces defending the Japanese Home Islands. The battle for Taiwan hangs in the balance and a convoy forming in Tokyo Bay will keep Taiwan in the war for at least a month (with your CSG the critical escort). Therefore, you are to conserve your forces while destroying PLA(N) facilities which might threaten Hawaii and Johnson Island.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 2024

Date: 30 July 2024

From: Defense Minister, Ministry of National Defense, Beijing

To: Commander South Seas Fleet, Shandong Battlegroup

Subject: Nicobar Islands Operations

1. Indian political leadership has rebuffed our demands for a cessation of blockade operations of the Straits of Malacca by Indian forces. They have now been given until 08:00 1 August 2024 Beijing Time to cease those operations or face military operations to open the straits.

2. Your orders are to use your amphibious forces to seize Port Campbell and INS Baaz Air Base on Great Nicobar Island. As the airbase can be used by our aircraft as a base of operations for both protecting the straits and for possible future operations you are to seize both intact. It is estimated you should be able to take both within six (6) hours of landing. The operations landing area is indicated by (locked) reference points on your map. Your Amphibious Group should operate within the (locked) Amphibious OPAREA for at least six (6) hours.

3. Your submarines may engage any targets of opportunity, without any time restrictions.

4. Your carrier groups and H-6K aircraft are to support the amphibious operations and eliminate any threat to the operation.

5. Indian forces, including both of their carriers, have sortied into the Bay of Bengal. Vessels in and near the Nicobar islands have been observed dropping objects off the sterns of their vessels, thus some areas could be mined both in the Straits and near the Nicobar Islands.

6. Several Indian submarines are believed to have forward deployed to the Nicobar Islands area to support the blockade operations as have several IAF squadrons.

7. As the Pakistani Navy has been all but eliminated, including their operational submarines, you can anticipate Indian MPA/ASW aircraft will be used against your forces. The United States has recently expedited the delivery of a second P-8I squadron and they are believed to be operational.

8. You are to conclude operations by 08:00 Beijing Time, 3 August.

9. The eyes of our great country, and the world, are upon you. May fortune smile on your mission.

End Message
