Very good to hear and H., sometimes people look so hard for what has been right in front of their eyes all along.

Glad to hear that Gilmer! It gives me hope, I just lost my job of 31 years. Things look bleak.
Good luck with your new position.

Keep on going, keep on trying. Sometimes it is very hard. I admit I was in a bad place through September, but people kept saying the same thing I'm saying now, don't give up!!! I'd rather work 12 hour days than to give up and that was what I am doing in my temp job until I take on my new role. 12 hours of sales and use tax!!! Tell your kids not to go into accounting!! (ok, just kidding on that one, tell them to do what they want).

Seriously, I'll be pulling for you and praying for you if you want that. I enjoy your posts here and am hoping for the best.

Hi all!! A lot of things happened since I posted this!! It took me a long time, but about a week ago I took a temporary job. Hard work, but I was working. Not as much money as I had been making but enough to get by on. I had interview after interview, and there were some jobs I wanted a lot. I never got them. I was always close but I did not get them. I always seemed to come in 2nd. "They liked you, but they liked this other person just slightly more...."

Well, after I took the temporary job, my phone has been ringing off the hook for people wanting me to interview. Recruiters have been cold calling me out of the blue and emailing me out of the blue.

Just this week, I accepted a position that is a promotion and about 11-13K (depending on bonus) more than I was making at my previous full time job. I am not a very religious person, but I did ask God for help and I know some don't believe ... but somehow, after weeks of rejection, I got the best job of the bunch.

Thanks to everyone for good and caring thoughts. :)

Jolly good, H. Gilmer! Jolly jolly good!

Thank you for the kind words H Gilmer. I have a loving wife and a supportive family so I am blessed. I guess it's not
so bleak. Anyhow, I get unemployment for a few months so I have some time, but heck, it's been so long I don't know how to apply for a job anymore.
Life goes on. Thanks again.

Congrates Gilmer,
I too am an accountant that found myself to be unemployed last year. Unfortunately in my area, getting a decent paying job in my field was next to impossible; the number of applicants for each position was depressing. Last summer I was actually recruited for a management posistion in a major automotive manufacturer for more than i was earning as an accountant. As Rhonda said above, as one opportunity closes another opens. Hope everything works out for you.

Very Glad to hear that my Friend! Working is always a morale booster. I promise you it is much easier to find the job of your dreams while you are working, keep it up and that "job" will come up somewhere and someday! Felicitations.

Great news Gilmer. :)
I was also unemployed for two years... but life is full of surprises. Now, I'm working at Slitherine/Matrix.
I bet you too, vonRocko, will get a job, sooner or later. Keep a positive attitude, things will change. :)

I don't suppose anyone has a job lying around handy. I just got the notice from my company they are laying us all off, pretty much.

Accounting, USA, open to relocate. :)

Sorry to hear H. Gilmer. I don't know of any jobs openings off hand. Although, when I was laid off in 2007 I went to work for a temp company and managed to find a new place that would take me in on one of my temp assignments. You might try that in the meantime, especially if you have good skills.

Good advice in the short term.

That's got to be a crushing blow, what sort of soulless evil did that to you ?

Well, the company I worked for sells assisted living/nursing home furniture. One of the biggest furniture manufacturers
That they represented moved their operation to China. Quality and service declined, of course.
Because of that and the general bad state of the economy, sales have fallen in the past few years. Now, my job there was "jack of all trades".
Mostly I would take care of installations, deliveries, samples etc. But towards the end, I was only putting in a day or two a week, but I was salaried
and got paid the same with great benefits. They do their accounting around this time of year, so they see how much they lost this year. It's a pretty small company, so
the only way to make up their losses was my salary!
It is what it is, but I won't let it ruin the holidays. Christmas and a layoff were good excuses for getting "War in the West"!!

Merry Christmas!

So many good people here. If anyone ever wants a beer on me, just let me know. I'm going to be moving to the Atlanta area right in the North Perimeter/Sandy Springs/Dunwoody area.

Glad to hear the good news Gilmer!

I stand by my earlier advice... when things look bad, it isn't a disaster... it's an opportunity!

Don't lose heart VonRocko! It sounds like you are a flexible person with lots of skills and I'll wager that something better will come along for you :)
