hey everybody,

I have air squadrons that needed new pilots more than a week ago. I requested various veteran pilots, but
for some reason these recently arrived pilots are greyed out and show a Delay of 1 day. I can right
click on those greyed out pilots and bring them back to Active Duty-- but I'm in danger of overrequesting
scarce valuable pilots for squadrons that are already full. Does anybody know how to fix or avoid
this problem? I've seen this in a few other squadrons, and enough time has lapsed for sure for
these pilots to "arrive."

Screenshot below shows what I am talking about further. This Nell bomber squadron gives me the
option to request more pilots, (thereby implying the need), but there are several already "There"
but greyed out and set to Delay 1. Can you help? thanks!

You have to manually bring those pilots with a delay of 1 to active duty - either by right clicking from the pilot pool screen or by hitting the "get new pilot" arrow on the squadron screen.

Wish it was automatic, but its not.

I think the answer is pretty simple. The air unit will resize to 36 and when you´re close enough to the resize time you can fill
your pilots up to the new max number. In this case the unit can get 48 pilots max.

You want to make those delay1-pilots active? Either you click on "get new pilot" so the number in parentheses get smaller and the number of active pilots grow
or you go into pilots list change the "to pool" setting from group to active and click release pilots.

Thanks guys... its just strange that if a squadron has a need for pilots, say they have 12 planes but only 7 pilots, that new pilots arriving would be on reserve status. Just adds some micromanagement unexpectedly

I think it's that way on purpose, so that you can set some pilots to reserve for certain missions... it allows you to bring in recruits on your CV groups, for example, and train them up. And then when you're about to hit combat, you put the recruits in reserve so that you don't have green pilots flying against the enemy CVs.

Also, it allows you to keep the group commander in reserve so that he is never killed in an air action. I've found this to be important for the Allied groups, as the group commanders tend to have really good skills and you can't keep them from leading a group when you reassign them (they have the * next to their rank in the selection screen).

What you can do is fill the squad only to one pilot less than the potential max number for that squadron (if you fill out to the max the Get New Pilot button gets inactive).

Then you can activate the delay 1 pilots from the squadron view simply by clicking on the Get New Pilot button. As long as there is a delay 1 pilot in the list it will switch the pilot to active instead of bringing a new one into the squadron.
