Would developer change term "morale" to something more appropriate? IIRC, moral in WitE represents the training levels and doctrine capabilities of the countries more than reflecting the willingness of the soldiers to fight. I think such terminology caused confusion among players in the time of WitE launch. For example, It would be more appropriate to use term "proficiency" as it better capture essence of training levels and doctrine capabilities.

I think we debated this ad nauseam. Whilst proficiency might be a better term my recollection is that because of the use of morale throughout the code changing it was a step too far.

In WitW the ability to launch invasions (almost anywhere)...

So the Pas de Calais won't be safe ? I wonder how the allied AIs decision making works. Is there some (Enigma) Intel going on (such as in WITP) or does it work thru recon and whatever the AI makes of it ?

The Pas de Calais is not safe. There is no Enigma - you use air recon.

Ok, thanks. Somehow WitW with a little bit of Enigma or Red Orchestra stuff would have been nice. And I know that the German side was less informed about Allied intentions in later stages of the war

Will there be any changes to the Editor? I played around with before and just used it to make some leader changes, Command Point changes and withdrawal changes to the Campaign and it really was quite easy.

I've just finished writing the Editor Manual - the changes are minor beyond the need to add improvements for the new game functionality and map construct. If you are WitE editor savvy you'll have no problems.

We're working on AARs at the moment but is there anything else you'd like to know more about?

How is the strategic bombing campaign handled? Is it even part of the game? Are there hundreds of target types (ball bearings, fuel, munitions, etc.) on map like in Eagle Day Bombing the Reich?

I know about the directives settings screen, but explain in detail how missions are created and flown. Is it detailed with lots of missions hitting dozens of individual targets like in Eagle Day or is it more generic and missions simply hit cities and do % damage to the selected target directive types?

Jim

Yes it is very much part of the game and it is detailed - I'll put together a collage of screenshots to show you just how detailed as one doesn't do the effort that Pavel has put in justice..

OK - this screenshot shows the detail you can specify. Once you have set the parameters the game does the donkey work of sending the missions to meet your intent. You can set the game to watch each of the thousands of missions flying or check out the summary at the end.

It's difficult to explain as I'm so used to the system so please ask if you want me to explain more.

If WitW has weekly turns, what is a schedule (days of week target will be bombed) good for ?

Yes -  it is weekly turns but the air phase runs as seven individual days first and then the ground phase.  There are some nuances like ground support air missions flying during the ground phase.  It does seem strange at first but it really works well.

Did you rewrite the German OOB and TOE files or copied WITE with its mistakes? (German original WWII KStN-tables and theoretical TOE-tables in WITE do not allways match!)

There should have been several changes in WitW, some of them backported to or even further modified in WitE 1.08.
Would be nice if you would give us some examples of OB errors.

I have no access to WITE right now so I cannot give TOE(OB) number to this very short example.
There are quite a number of similar errors with Heerentruppen and also infantry TOE are not addressing the Welle-system with different TOEs very well either.

Sorry, mixing English and German together, easier for me when talking KStN, though neither is my native language and my basic German skills based on to just a couple of years in high school over 3 decades ago.

German engineer battalion:
WITE: 36x engineer 6/41-9/45

German KStN 712 1.2/41 Pionierkompanie (mot): 3xpion.gruppex3 Zug= 9xpion/K
3x Kompanie/ Abteilung = 27 Pionier gruppe + 18x Flammenwerfer (needs to be separated from gruppe waffen )
then:
KStN 712 1.11/43 Pionierkompanie (mot): number of gruppen still same but: each now has 2xlmg 34/42, added 1942 and
each company has 2x Hmg, 2x81 mortar and 3x GrB39 (added also in 1942)
Abt.: 27xgruppe, 20x Flammenwerfer, 6xHmg, 6x81 mortar, 9xGrB39.

The game looks very promising by being deeper but on a more manageable (for me) scale. I dabbled in WitP:AE, but found it very difficult to get into. WitE is just too big for me. One of the reasons I couldn't get into WitP was because of my lack of knowledge about units, especially aircraft. Trying to set air missions was a nightmare. I am more familiar with the units I expect to see in this game, but will there be useful descriptions in game of the capabilities of the various units? I do appreciate that there is the option to delegate to the AI missions, but given how important the air war and logistics are it would be good to have some in-game help.

The 'one-page' guides look promising, but are they aimed at the beginner or those coming to the game from WitE?

We have tried to make the Player's Guide a journey - it has four broad sections - what you need as a Beginner to be able to play the Intro scenarios. Then a section for the more competent player looking at things like weather and the EF Box. The one page guides are there to help and the last few one page guide are ready reckoners - some yardsticks and tips on good play.

The Handbook is not a WitE conversion guide - the WitW/WitE difference threads here on the forum have been done to do that.

In regards to WitE e.g. the 'Totenkopf' doesn't have it's organic Tiger I company, unlike the Leibstandarte & Das Reich they kept their Tiger I's throughout the war, when the SS Polizei division was withdrawn for refit/re-organisation to a Pz Grenadier division they left behind a Kampfgruppe of 5,000 men, this was one third of the division strength at the time.

There will no doubt be others but I would have to go through the OOB & K.S.T.N in detail.

I have a couple of questions (at present) about this:

The weekly bombing schedule, I notice that Bomber Command is schedules to on day 2 and 5. Is there a random factor inbuilt to this schedule or it may be come easy for the opponent to react to this? I realise that this should be changed every week however it seems one more bit of micromanagement, is there a setting to allow the computer to assign randomized days?

As intercepts are automatic the day thing doesn't have that much effect from an enemy perspective.  It is more important in regulating fatigue and integrating with recon missions.  If you fly 7 days a week you'll struggle.  The suggestion in the Player's Handbook is a set up such as D1 - Recon, D2 - Bomb, D3 - Recon, D4 - Bomb, D5 - Recon, D6 - Bomb, D7 - Day Off.

Quick question on the air war... I can see it's much more detailed than in WitE, but can you explain the ramifications of the air war. In WitE, players just mostly ignored the air war except for air resupply. Besides just being cool, what kind of impact does it have on the actual ground war?

You can play the game ignoring the air war - but to do so against a matched opponent (human or AI on challenging) is aiming to lose. Air is more important to the Allies.

If you launch a historical D-Day you are unlikely to get out of the bocage if you don't use airpower.

That's just it... I don't want to be able to ignore it.. I am just wondering how bombing factories, resources, synthetic fuel plants, etc affects the war. I get that for ground support it is invaluable. It's the less tangible ramifications I am wondering about.

Firstly you'll lose strategic bombing points, V-Wpn and U-boat points if you don't.

Secondly it does effect production - you just need to choose your target strategy.

Some more questions on the air war, heavily influenced by WITP

German side:

Can you define which geographic area will be covered for intercepts(instead everything in range of a unit)?
Possible to define that f.e. only unescorted raids will be attacked (possible in 43), or attacks only on the unescorted portions of the in/out legs?
Where will the intercepts actually take place? Over the target or along the stream?
Do notional intercept times matter? F.e. does it matter when raid is detected relative to location of unit and do stats like air speed and climb matter to check whether intercept is succesful?

Allied side:

Possible to define which raid will be escorted how heavily?
Possible to escort only part way if range not sufficient to get to target?
Possible that escorts fail to fly because of leader checks/coordination/other penalties?
Do all escorts always engage all interceptors first?
