Sumatra: A remnant of 268th Indian Motorised Brig with 550 men and 6 Bren carriers has walked halfway down the coast of Sumatra after being ejected from Sabang at the Northern tip of Sumatra, converted to Islam and is having a grand olde time. They look so much like the locals they just walked into Padang and now own the place. I flew in some P-40's to guard the AF and 3 Aussie Brigades were already at sea in the IO waiting and are now closing in with 3 US CV's and 4 CVE's. KB north of Sorong.

Some of the Indian Army was muslim. It was a way for them to have a better life. Plus being a warrior was a cultural thing for many of them.

One time the British Army had a bit of a riot with Muslim troops after the rumor went around that the powder cartridges were greased with pork fat and you had to bite open the cartridge.

The people who wanted trouble told the muslims pork fat, they told the Hindus beef fat, when it was actually sheep fat. Then came the Black Hole of Calcutta.
