Must be at least 600 ground casualties although the RAF is paying a price.

Interesting fight in the Timor Sea. The good guys had been staging night bombardments of Ambon 2 nights in a row while the IJN surface boys were parked at Boela. JJ deduced a pattern and pounced. I may have missed the 3-9 combats but ...ehh.

KB strike only manages 35 bombers after wasting time bombing empty LCM's and LCVP's. We shoot them up pretty good.

Canberra takes one torp "up the chuff" and is slowed to 24 kts.

Montpelier TF has quite an effective DAY TIME bombardment of Ambon. It seems some staff idiot left the "remain on station" switch in the "on" position. Ironically, this puts them out of range of the KB but waaaay North in Injun territory.

This leaves quite a dilemma for the "staff" to solve. Canberra can be detached and run toward Merauke which she can probably make unless the KB aggressively moves SE into the Arafua Sea. The rest of the Canberra TF can make Merauke. Two squadrons of fighters fly in to Merauke from the Solomons.

Now..what to do about the Montpelier TF, which has good fuel and is undamaged but if very low on ammo?

North toward the Philippine Sea and then toward midway? They can outrun the KB but there is a SECOND carrier TF (CV, CVL) North of Sorong. A pincer attack!! Clever baaaaahstards! Plus, even though mouseover recon showed no Netties at Kendari...this would be the perfect time to send them back. That leaves trying to escape North of Timor....

Can't go East because there is a Jap SCTF looping around Ceram to the South and only 80 from Montpelier's position. Plus, the carriers North of Sorong can move down into the narrow isthmus of New Guinea and can easily reach anything at Taberfane or Dobo of Kai-elandedn.

Looks like we go South. We head south toward Babar, hoping to reach there at night and go into port. 110 fighters fly in to Babar and Saumlaki to cover (from Darwin and Mindanao and the other Sundas)...off we go!

Quite an excellent performance by the USN force considering they had already expended about 90% of their main gun ammo.

One Jap DD sinks. Atago seems to be burning. Montpelier will need to go to Brisbane.

The USN TF CO elects to give up making Babar harbor and runs South toward Darwin.

The sun come up and the USN TF is about 160 SE of the KB which has moved North of Babar (because they had to be careful about Darwin. It WORKS!

I think this frustrated the IJN CO. About time after we lost Saratoga and 2 BB's to Jap subs.

Canberra almost makes Merauke and appears safe. The second JN carrier force moves down toward the New Guinea isthmus as predicted but we are clear except for a couple of LCI's.

After the second day the tally is:

IJN: One DD sunk, Atago damaged, ca. 10 Zekes, 10 carrier bombers shot down.

Allies: One 12 pt AK sunk, 2 YMS, 9 landing craft/PT boats sunk. Montpelier and Canberra damaged. Both will need Brisbane docks.

Might have been a lot worse. It was a damn good plan,

One unintended consequence of telehealth visits is, once patients with anxiety discover how easy it is the sky is the limit. :-) This is fine because the office is not yet back up to it's pre-COVID activity..plus..I have learned if you just listen patiently and show concern and then say "the good news is this doesn't sound serious" it is AMAZINGLY effective. A teen patient with anxiety and "pain amplification syndrome" (everyday aches and pain become a crescendo of disabling pain at times) calls to report that her pain management doctor has doubled her tricyclic to help with anxiety, depressive symptoms and pain. Apparently, this has cause her breasts to become larger and "full" but not painful in any way (probably and estrogen effect indirectly caused by the medication). Now, I'm not sure how teen girls feel about this but adult women actually PAY to have that done by a plastic surgeon.

Anyway, I didn't think it was dangerous so I told her "The good news is I don't think this is serious"...et. voila!

Back in the day, when I was President of the corporation (before all the Asian women took over) a staff flunkie screwed up and lost a big health plan contract so 30,000 patients disappear overnight. We had just taken long-term leases on new office space and hired a bunch of people...bad mojo. We were happy with the previous arrangement but the Health System big shots wanted to "serve the community better" (i.e. steal patients from other hospitals)

Anyway, any idiot could see we had to downsize so we arranged 7 AM meetings every morning for two weeks to hash it out. It was no fun....at the start..but by half way through the first meeting I had compiled a list of idiotic business jargon that the guys and gals on the other side of a huge conference table spouted like it was the gospel of Luke. I can't even remember all the silliness at this point but some were:

"Drill down"....nominally, to investigate further after a probing question by the doctors but what it really means is "oh ****, we didn't think of that"

"Best practice"....when you first hear this it sounds like some kind of lofty, rational, almost mathematical unified theory of the universe..but what it really means is.."We will tell you what you have to do later after we decide what costs less"

"Burning platform"...yes..I know what you are thinking.."did I not read enough books in college..I feel inadequate..is it Biblical...maybe Admiral Nelson mentioned it at Trafalgar""..but after the second person on the other side of the table said the same thing I realized it REALLY means "The Big Boss told us this is important and we will scramble about like Kapuchin monkeys picking up the bright and shiny objects until we make our nightly take"

I compiled a glossary and gave it out secretly to the other medical group members. The meeting started on day 2. We all drink our coffee and have our bagels. Someone on the other side says "drill down" and everyone on our side looks at their shoes. Someone says "best practice" and all the doctors try to maintain. Finally, about 30 minutes in someones utters "burning platform" and it's all over. I never got invited to a higher board. I wonder why.

We did something similar - buzzword bingo! Just make a bingo matrix with a buzzword in each box and hand them out to participants. Everyone hides them in their leather-bound folder and appears to be taking notes studiously during the meeting, making the boss happy and the participants entertained.

In the military besides buzz-words and or phrases we have acronym-palooza. he problem is sometimes with joint operation services and or countries services, use the same acronym for something completely different. That is when life can get interesting on exercises.
