Indian Ocean: Despite the efforts of the TBF's at Christmas Island, there are too many Japs ashore so the TBF's escape to the waiting CVE to the NW and the Corsairs back to Padang on Sumatra. We get out about 300 engineers by seaplane back to Sumatra but nearly 600 become POWs quote:
