Ahhh...splendid! I see everyone is behaving themselves in a convivial and civilized fashion and following the forum rules even though everyone here knows exactly what Mr. witpqs was hinting at.

OK - lest I be accused of being decorous, I was typing at the same time as witpqs and he posted just before me, so I did not see the opportunity to maintain my reputation ... such as it is.

Convivial - adjective 1. friendly; agreeable: a convivial atmosphere. 2. fond of feasting, drinking, and merry company; jovial. 3. of or befitting a feast; festive.

Decorous - adjective 1. characterized by dignified propriety in conduct, manners, appearance, character, etc.

Put these two together on one gets a Red Wedding.

Perhaps name subs after them? They go up and down like political fortunes, but nearly always manage to resurface, sometimes in unexpected places. And they excel at torpedoing others ...

Aye. And their re-circulation of slightly radioactive air aboard is also fitting. How about that most aboard are blind about their surroundings and that only one person gets to look through a tiny hole to see the outside world as it truly is? And then does whatever the hell he wants after he inevitably (mis)interprets what he thinks he saw?

But if he let on it was a peephole into the ladies' locker room there would be chaos aboard!

While that *would* be the MO of one of our recent Presidents, that probably isn't the MO of the one I'm thinking about...

Fellow in Hawaiian shirt seems much too smart to 'volunteer' for mini-sub duty... or he's a quick learner!

Old Milwaukee makes Pabst look like a craft brewer. Hot beer out of can is just the worst but I suppose it beats cholera.

************Feb 10,1942(e)************

JJ are mean to us again.

Koumac: Much noise and expenditure of the wealth of the Emperor to dislodge 20 USMC paratroops.

Night Naval bombardment of Koumac at 113,156

Japanese Ships
CL Sendai
DD Oboro

Port hits 2
Port supply hits 1

E7K2 Alf acting as spotter for CL Sendai
CL Sendai firing at Koumac
DD Oboro firing at Koumac

This is followed by a construction Bn (Koreans in diapers) landing amphibiously. At least their clothes will dry fast but I imagine the salt might chaffe.

The thing is I don't think a construction Bn has any AV power so they will have to sit there.

Tanna: Remember that bombardment force possibly headed to Noumea? They turned left. Thank Jehova the 34th RCT were sent along to Suva instead of unloading at Tanna but we didn't have adequate surface forces to cover them so caution was in order.
I realize I may not have much credibility on this notion of "caution"

Night Naval bombardment of Tanna at 120,157

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 6 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 2 destroyed on ground
F4F-3 Wildcat: 13 damaged
F4F-3 Wildcat: 1 destroyed on ground
SBD-3 Dauntless: 4 damaged
SBD-3 Dauntless: 1 destroyed on ground
B-26 Marauder: 20 damaged
PBY-4 Catalina: 6 damaged
O-47A: 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
BB Kirishima
BB Hiei
DD Shikinami
DD Uranami
DD Isonami
DD Hibiki

Allied ground losses:
78 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 8 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 3 disabled

Airbase hits 5
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 35
Port hits 1

Must be > 20% runway damage as the B-26's didn't fly. JJ must have seen Tanna click over to level 2? I thought that was hidden in FOW in prior updates?
The good news is now they have to suppress 2 bases (and soon Norfolk as well)

No attacks from the KB. Not sure where they went yet. 33rd Div took a break in the center of N&IC so the USMC Def Bn lives another day.

Little Mac really was a wee dobber wasn't he - those uniform buttons look enormous on him! Either that or he is wearing some kind of medieval studded armour.

He did like to wait until everything was ready before attacking - "everything" including General Lee vacating the field.

We lost track of the KB again. Most everything that was trying to get to Tanna has to turn around.

Jap engineers coming ashore at Koumac. They are going to try to build an airstrip which is what they should have been doing from day 1. If they get a big airstrip at Koumac or La Foa, we will probably lose Noumea. Been there, done that...WWII(c)..I think.

Tanna: Remember that bombardment force possibly headed to Noumea? They turned left. Thank Jehova the 34th RCT were sent along to Suva instead of unloading at Tanna but we didn't have adequate surface forces to cover them so caution was in order.
I realize I may not have much credibility on this notion of "caution"

Night Naval bombardment of Tanna at 120,157

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 6 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 2 destroyed on ground
F4F-3 Wildcat: 13 damaged
F4F-3 Wildcat: 1 destroyed on ground
SBD-3 Dauntless: 4 damaged
SBD-3 Dauntless: 1 destroyed on ground
B-26 Marauder: 20 damaged
PBY-4 Catalina: 6 damaged
O-47A: 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
BB Kirishima
BB Hiei
DD Shikinami
DD Uranami
DD Isonami
DD Hibiki

Allied ground losses:
78 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 8 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 3 disabled

Airbase hits 5
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 35
Port hits 1

Must be > 20% runway damage as the B-26's didn't fly. JJ must have seen Tanna click over to level 2? I thought that was hidden in FOW in prior updates?
The good news is now they have to suppress 2 bases (and soon Norfolk as well)

"We'll have this runway up and running in no time! Those Jap BB's barely scratched us."

.....ewwwwshhhhhweeeooowwww......

"Good morning GI's at Tanna, Tokyo Rose here, how did you like last nights visit from the big guns of the Imperial Japanese Navy? You can be sure there is more on the way. Why don't you just drop your weapons and surrender, we have plenty of beer and girls at our reception centers. When I say beer I don't mean Old Milwaukee either!"
