I worked out a way to get P-40's from China to Clark/Bataan. If you divide the squadron you can fly out 8 at a time to a base in SE China with just enough supply for drop tanks...otherwise they get stuck. Its quite brilliant I tell you. Converted one of the two plane P-38E squadrons to P-39, which has a higher number so is obviosuly better.

Raid spotted at 24 NM, estimated altitude 24,560 feet.
Estimated time to target is 6 minutes

Allied aircraft
Spitfire Vc Trop x 3
P-38E Lightning x 1
P-38G Lightning x 3
P-39D Airacobra x 2
P-40K Warhawk x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-44-IIa Tojo: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
P-38E Lightning: 1 destroyed

There....take that. JJ can't shut down both Clark and Bataan at the same time so the bases cover each other.

We had my Dad's internment ceremony yesterday. USAF sent three airmen down from March AFB. Very moving flag folding ceremony and Taps. We went over to my sister's place afterward and everyone told stories. Very much needed. Great stories. Many I had never heard. Someone worked out my Dad had been to Washington 500 times in his career. He more than once got upgrades to first class and high end suites because he happened to have the same name as a famous cabinet secretary .

One time the White House called his suite looking for the cabinet dude and was alarmed that a woman answered...my mom. One time he was demonstrating an electronic bug direction finder that could detect the microwatt emanations from the tuning circuit of the RECEIVING device. The Secret Service was so impressed they sent a car to his hotel and invited him the the WH to demonstrate it and requisitioned the only prototype on the spot. Sale made. One time some RAF dudes and British subcontractors flew in to SoCal so they went fishing on my brother's boat out in the kelp beds...and they all got busted for not having fishing licenses. The company paid the fines.

One time he was in Europe for an international project and they were working with a German and Italian firm but they had some last minute technical issues and had to buff the proposal for a Monday morning presentation worth hundreds of millions. The Americans and Germans ordered in food, rolled up their sleeves and worked all weekend and the Italian engineers went out drinking and partying. Some other stuff I would have to kill you if I told you.

We worked out his kids and grandkids had over 100 student years at the same high school and he probably attended over 19,000 athletic events including a mixed-twins Mildred Morrow Elementary School tennis tournament with only two teams...and he kept the trophy...but had to hide because my brother did not want anyone to come to match.

After all these stories we started drinking. That was fun too.

Cap, you are up too early for a California boy.

I'm sorry for your loss, but it sounds like your father had a full life. The fact that his family came together with good stories is proof.

Respectfully,
T Rav

As a Florida boy transplanted to Cali, I agree with the morning thing. Everyone else is still asleep.

I think the term is "Stealing a March," when you operate while the other side sleeps.

I like to do that too.

Yes, getting up early to achieve an advantage over the enemy is wise....but one must never surrender to the temptation of the "Early Bird Special". One must always uphold one's honor and dignity.

After watching the replay, I can confirm the staff forgot to push the "cancel unload" button at Terapo. We lost one AK. Not so bad considering the loss of Vals and Zekes there.

35th IR was saved..so that is good.

Obviously this happened because of the brilliance and daring of the Admiral in charge who did not let his staff near the operation...

Stalker Girl is going to see a band composed of members of a Christian rock band she sought solace with in her early teen years.

Now they have mostly come out as gay and do a combination of heavy metal and musical theater. We listened to their CD when we were in Maui. Fortunately the car was stolen. I have decided to stay home and try to install the new faucet again.

Ummmm..is the "1" model of the Corsair carrier capable...or does that start with the "1A"?

Historically, the USN had trouble bringing the the Corsair into action on the carriers due to the extra pilot training required.

Why don't you load up one of your carriers with it and find out?

Oh, I'm kidding. Don't. The F4U-1 is *not* carrier capable. Classic rookie mistake putting it on flattops. BTW, you can see this information by selecting your plane and ship database.

Yes, that's what I thought. Fortunately, due to some fortuitous planning, the USN now has more carrier fighter squadrons than they have CV decks so the Corsair 1 can grace a USN Navy or Marine squadron for flying off dirt.

Because the new model P-39 isn't available until mid-'43.

Wouldn't the new and improved P-39 be the P-40? Isn't that available now?

P-40 was already taken so the export version of the P-39 was called P-400 as it was actually not an improved version of the basic P-39 but an export version of the P-39. The P-400 substituted the 37 MM nose cannon for 20 MM one and 30 cal machine guns for .303 MGs are requested by the British who order 675 of the P-400 but only used 80 in combat and decide because of the lack of the Turbo supercharger the performance was sub -par and passed 200 of them to the Russians via Lend-Lease and returned 250 back to the US, who used them in combat.
