Happy to be told what I'm doing wrong or what has changed, but it seems like since 1.06 I can no longer fire manually (shift+F1) while using a helo (at 80ft) to attack a submarine even when within the 0.2 nm required to fire an air-launched torpedo.

In this scenario, you'll see Lumberjack 1 cannot manually fire (shift+F1) Goblin 698 even though only ~0.12 nm away with the Weapon Allocation window reading "target is out of weapon range".
The only way I've found to attack subs (I believe since 1.06 as I've always attacked manually with 1.05 and 1.05beta2 and only recently it doesn't seem to work) is to use straight F1 and remove Hold Fire for this unit--then the AI will fire the torpedo at the sub.

Can someone kindly tell me what I'm doing wrong or what has changed?

I haven't looked at your save but I have been using manual allocation for helicopter ASW torpedos just fine in 1.06.

I'll have a look at the save tomorrow and see if I can get it to work

I noticed this too. My asw helos and planes will not launch from more than .2 nm no matter what I do. So I just have them auto attack and it works.

I (eventually) gave your save game a try. With the game as is, I can't get Lumberjack 1 or any other helicopter to launch torpedoes at the sub.

I tried changing 'kinematic range for torpedoes' to 'No' and immediately the helo dropped the two torpedoes I allocated which promptly destroyed the sub.

Whether that's desired functionality or not I'm not sure, but at least you can now get your helicopters to drop some torpedoes

This bug was also encountered in the closed beta and should be fixed in the next patch. Hopefully you guys will be able to get your hands on that soon(tm).
