It's a beauty.

For someone who want a quick bite of details behind the 055's launch hype, here is a summerized article about its estimated specifications:

DCNS Becomes Naval Group

quote:

DCNS announced today that it is changing its name to "Naval Group". This new identity is a natural step in the French naval shipbuilding group’s history, aimed at supporting its ambitions to guarantee its exposure and credibility in international markets.

video.

We can see how many radar and sensors this thing carries... It's mind boggling.

This is based on the information we get from the Chinese forums (ECM mast of course means ESM mast):

As well, we see that it has an substancially larger sonar array as well.

Front cells: 64 cells. Now waiting for the aft. We see that signature management has been substancial with this design. Not only is the hull quite stealthy, but even the engine exhausts are seemingly shielded to minimize IR signals.

4 fixed L-Band Panels on both sides? If it can open all the radars in operation, then it might able to fire up enough electricity for a small town as well!

At first I thought it will not include a S1850 alike of rotational scanning L-Band Radar at the stern, but never expect they will literally put L-Band radars right on the hull, and that is FOUR not one.

Skepticism aside, on each sides 2 L-bands are parallel at the same direction. Why not facing at 4 dues like the Type 346A? They don't seems to have front or rear coverage with such placement. Rotational scanning however could face where the threats at one point:

They could be dual band. People in Chinese BBS suggest one is L and the other is UHF band. Same radars as those conformal arrays onboard the Divine Eagle UAV.

The bars above the 346Bs are said to be related with the OTH detection system. The Mineral ME would finally retire.

As for the power requirements; a leaker has mentioned that the powerplants produce 113MW peak. So, more than enough juice for the plethora of sensors and EW systems.

Some more evidence of those arrays probably being conformal volume search radars:

Seaside testbed featuring an array on the same position:

And the hole opening for the conformal array when it was under construction:

Something else of note: They even clad the decoy launchers in RCS reducing coverings...

They really wanted to make this ship as stealthy as they could.

What does 30x more powerful mean? The bigger search distance or more refined tracking resolution?

Sino-Viet military meeting turns dangerously sour a week ago -- the meeting cancelled abruptly as Chinese Rear Commissionaire left Vietnam after the Vietnamese defiance to sovereignty inside 9DL.

40 China Coast Guard & PLAN vessels were assembling near the shoreline of Ho Chi Minh City, while 12 Vietnamese vessels encountering them during the failure of meeting. Possibility of escalation remain unknown, but it drawn global attentions already:

SM3, the last produced Su-27 in fact. But the modernized Su-27SM should be able to carry the R-77-1 as well if they have the amount to put on Su-27s as well instead of just Su-30SMs and Su-35s :)

So, Taiwan is still sounding alarms whenever PLAN is passing through the strait, then why they only scramble the aircraft carrier and not the other warships?

Unlike the usual FoN practices in SCS, this time China sent a jet to warn them:

Speaking of the recent approval to start National Space Council by Trump. CNBC wrote an article about the 'Star Wars' program backed by Regan-era officials is the true key to win against Soviet Union, so does it has the use against China as well:

Naval fleet passing through the Strait will usually trigger some alarming news, and playing victim cards to themselves. This time however, China doesn't even feel her concern (or bluff, given by their current relationship) from Japan at all. PLAN isn't the first time to sent a fleet across Japan by passed through Tsugaru strait, yet Japan treat it as serious as any kinds of sea border intrusions. It's indeed however, 'innocent passage' is a very ambiguous word game for every navies in the world.

Some more information on the Type 055's radar suite, specifically the much improved Type 346B AESA.
Basically the PLAN analyst says that the Qualitative Gap between the USN has been overcome - now the gap is "merely" quantitative, which is why the 055 and future versions must be produced in the "Dumpling"-style (aka. like sausages).

http://mil.huanqiu.com/observation/2017-07/10932577.html

quote:

055所配备的先进相控阵雷达直径本身比052系列所用346A型雷达4.3米的直径还大 = The Type 055 is equipped with advanced active phased array radar with a larger diameter than the Type 346A radar used onboard the 052 series. The diameter is larger than 4.3m meter (of the Type 346A).

发射接收单元也是最新的氮化镓材料 = the transmitter and receiver unit (T/R unit) is also using the latest gallium nitride material. Coincidentially, there has also been a poster leaked from an internal arms exhibition about GaN T/R chips.

Specifications of the previous Type 346A onboard the 052D:
