Spence ya 'ol puddle pirate are you saying that just because Japan got it wrong all Japanese players must also. There are many examples of shore bombardment that got it right during the war. Of coures most were Allied, but what's that got to do with it. Some of the effective bombardments include:
1)Japan at Henderson Field (alluded to above).
2)Sicily, broke the counterattack by the HG division.
3)Salerno.
4)Normandy. Not talking about the initial bombardment, but throughout the day.
5)Okinawa. Would have been interesting but by that time the Japanese learned not to be there. How's that for effective.
6)Oh, I almost forgot one that I like that's not too well known. North Africa, when the French counterattacked Patton. Sadly against a nation I consider an ally.

So, here's how I look at it.
1)Control the sea lanes.
2)Control the local air.
3)Have plenty of AE/AKE's available with supply to feed those fat BB's.
4)Blast away.

Early war JFB's have fun. Late war AFB's get payback.

If you're gonna say that JFB's quit, I say get a new opponent. Maybe once I get ready to play Japan and clear my calender so I can be a consistant responder we can have a game.

Anyway, just MHO. YMMV.

In 1942 a Jap sub shelled the fort in Astoria, OR with a couple dozen deck gun rounds. The fort's naval guns didn't return fire. So maybe this is too realistic.

Also in 1941 another sub shelled an amusement park in Santa Monica California, destroying a Ferris Wheel and destroyed a Grant tank with a torpedo until a local homeowner sent it scurrying away with sniper fire from a commandeered 40mm Bofors from his front lawn!

The last part is not true! The Bofors rolled down the hill and through most of his house so he fired at the sub from his living room!
