I've been enjoying watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Le Tour de France lately but I've also dusted off an old AE game vs. the AI that I had only gotten started on a couple of years ago. Played a few 2 day turns and am at 18 Jan 42. I'm enjoying playing AE again instead of just reading and talking about it.

Not sure about hockey up here. Holding my $1040 UND hockey tickets. Ticketmaster is a big gyp. Lied to me from last season. They told me I was credited for Hall of Fame game against Penn St. in Nashville not part of ticket package. Other games lost from Corona virus not credited. Buttholes. Tickermaster is a big scam. Period.

think about the mess an under cooked patty would make when hit with a stick. And then there's curling, a sport I never truly understood. Not much of a cricket guy either, but at least the non professional teams enjoys G&Ts both in the field and off the field.

Curling, where men use brooms vigorously. They just don't use them on the kitchen floor.

Curling, where men use brooms vigorously. They just don't use them on the kitchen floor.

The sweeps are usually carried out at low level and involve much shouting and grunting and heavy breathing. After the sweeps clear the way, the incoming strike arrives ...

That starts when they slide their rocks on ice from house to house, trying to hit the button or smash their rocks against other rocks to knock them out of the house. I think it's a male domination ritual ...

I do believe some females do it as well. Some nice, pretty, young ones as well. Although I think that they will use the broom on the kitchen floor . . .

No idea what movie that was, but the only outdoor curling I ever did was the "Cordwood Bonspiel", where your brought your own "rocks" made of wood (turned on a lathe to make a cylinder, with a large spike bent several times to make the handle). Some players took an easier route and used a "jam can" or "paint pail" full of cement for the job. The key feature of these homemade rocks was that they didn't slide very well, and outdoor ice was not nicely pebbled.

Of course the temperatures were not controlled either so the ice was not so slippery when it got more than 10ºF below freezing. And mom didn't like having her straw broom beat up by the sweeping - it usually left more straw junk on the ice than it cleared off anyway! But it got us outside and active.

There was a movie, Men With Brooms, a few years ago. This is not from that ;-)

Close your eyes before you read this if you don't want to know what movie it's from.

Orm, did you mean the original Thing From Another World or the John Carpenter remake?
