Just got this picture from the builder's agent. We have siding and I'm really pleased with how things look! Not going to tell Mrs. USSA yet. We are driving over on Saturday and I'll let her be pleasantly surprised then.

Nice!!! Its gettin' there.

Thanks, rustysi! The siding and trim really start making it look finished.

The lot is 1.65 acres. It's about 120 feet wide and a very long rectangle going to the back, over 900 feet. With the septic drain field, they had to go back just over half of that distance to find acceptable soil. We are the last house on the street so we only have one neighbor whose house you can just see in the post above. Their lot also goes all the way back to the edge of the development. On the other side of our lot, and around the corner behind our lot is a big cattle farm. No idea how long it may stay that way, but it will be very quiet for a little while at least.

Thanks guys. Mike, we're going for that "too cheap to buy a lawn mower" look.

We're actually planning to get a riding mower that should make short work of most of the job. Leaving trees on about 1/3 of the property for now.

If you really are going for that look, keep it short near the house to prevent fires. Otherwise, contact a conservation officer about what native plants/flowers and such to plant and encourage for the bees and other wildlife that need it. Don't forget some food for the body and not just the soul, blackberries are a nice addition for that area I would guess.

The injury is not skeletal, it is a deep muscle bruise. The tailbone gives me no pain, it is the deep muscle on the right next to it. I feel it when there is pressure on it as in laying on my back or sitting on it. So I just have to pivot slightly and get up more using my left side. I should be better before I get married!

You're getting married?!

Not that I know of.

Thanks, Leo! The photo with the siding is taken from the road, so there is not a large amount of lawn in the front of the house. It will be grass in front and on the left side of the house (facing it from the street). The right side will have the driveway and a little bit of lawn. If that was all we had to keep up with, a walking lawn mower would be fine. The back yard is another matter. Until we have the pool and fence built, there will be about 1/4 acre in the backyard to mow, with trees behind that. There is also the cleared septic drain field in the back half of the property that will need to be kept mowed about 1 time per month, along with the cleared path back to it. Even after the pool is built, we hope to fence in a large part of the cleared area to have room for the grand-dogs to run when they visit and to have more than just the pool in the backyard. All of that adds up to enough to justify a riding lawn mower that will make pretty short work of it, with just some trimming to do around the house and such.

So, you decided to have a house built in the countryside so you could finally get your wife to allow you to have a riding mower? Brilliant!

They look cold.

Nah, but I hope it will be a big pool. 50 feet long, if we can afford it, so I can actually swim laps.
