I would hope there is an option to turn the level numbers on and off during a game.

Then I can set an inpenetrable defense :)

Joe,

Absolutely. There are three numbers you can display in a hex - all can be toggled on/off.

- Hex Coordinates
- Hex Level (0 is not displayed)
- Minefield Level (0 is not displayed)

Regards,

- Erik

Nope, its in Ukraina... ;) :D

The "big" town without name to the west, is Podgaytsy. The Germans arrived here 4.July 1941. The town had a large jewish setlement witch was eradicated in late 1942...:(

The specific battel and OOB is unknown to me, yet... :) I have to check my sources...

edit: my guess is some Barbarossa action, and something with 6. Army

Dagfinn,

You're very close! Yes it is Ukraina. Yes it is Barbarossa. No it isn't Podgaytsy but your guess is quite close. You have just one thing to remember - the combat path of all cavalry divisions under South-Western Front command - and you'll get all the answers with ease. If succeed, you have a right to demand some prize - if only we have it in stocks ;)

Yours,
Pavel
PS Seems it was good decision to delete town's name...

I just checked my stocks. Only two prizes left - a photo of Soviet tankers resting after the long road marsh and a candy. Generally candy is not a thing I would like to trade off for such an easy question like our one. So you may receive photo... Or refuse prize... Or make a donation... Are you sure you don't want to make a donation?

OK, the only Cav Corps in SW Front in June 41 was the 5th Corps, composed of the 3rd and 14th Cav divs (according to Glantz). Somwehere west of Kiev ? Other than that.....

Wht cant you ask an easy question ?

Mad Dog,

Easy question - easy victory - no honor :)

Good guess. The problem is that Glantz is wrong (it is the problem of all OoBs, though, as they are often not correspond with real situation). 3rd Cav was in direct subordination to 6th Army - yes it was PLANNED to withdraw it back to 5th CC (replacing it with 159th RD) but, you know, the war went not as it was planned by Soviet commanders yet from the beginning. So 3rd and 14th rejoined much later than events shown on the picture. Surely you're right - it is either 3rd or 14th CD. But what exactly? Any guess? And what is German division opposing it? I think we should give Dagfinn a chance to participate too. Hope we will go through this by today's evening...

The latest mystery is definitely a bit more obscure than the first. While you're ruminating, have a look at this shot from Pavel's Berezina scenario (a more up to date version than the earlier shots). Enjoy...

If the units are stacked, is there an easy way to tell how many are in the stack?

Is there a quick and convenient way to review the status of all the units in a stack with one click of the mouse?

We always must take advantage of computer power to make better games :)

I'm sorry but I'm a abit out of my lieg now, (obviousley:) )

So I will just try a long shot:

10.July: Panzergruppe 1 repulses a violent Soviet counter-attack in the area of Korosten to the West of Kiev. Could it be Korosten to the west?

Obviousley I will suggest that the German units are part of Panzergruppe 1, but Soviet cavalry units I know zip about :(

Darn, I just realized that I probably missed a oportunity to recive a nonexisting reward... :D

Ps. I could also try with Tarnopol to the west but then I have no idea about OOB...

Gentlemen,

Pavel's having some internet difficulties, so he asked me to post this for him:

quote:

Ok, Gentlemen, here's the correct answer. It is June 26th, 14th Cavalry Div (orange) and Kremenets garrison troops (blue) are fighting against German 16th Panzer Div. Nameless town is Kremenets (30km south of Dubno, 60km north of Tarnopol). As nobody gave exact answer - here's collective prize (250K approx).

Thanks to all for your good guesses, I wouldn't have gotten it myself. :)

Regards,

- Erik

Cut us some slack. :) Glantz is about as good as most of us can do. Russian OOBs are almost as hard to find as Japanese ones (anyone know of one - and yes, I already have the Handbook of Japanese Forces). Maybe Nafziger has one ?

I admit, the east front is not my strong point. Not that I have a strong point.....

You can't knock Glantz data man. I assume you're using Forgotten Battles vol 1 for this info? When it comes to the east front there's a lot of dubious data, but Glantz is rarely a part of that. I can't get enough of the east front (it being the biggest show of the last century.)

Dear Erik,

i'm glad to see the OOB in german. Will there be anyone who is checking the game for write errors? There are some mistakes..would be much nicer with correct german.

Do you have ä, ö, ü on your american keyboards?
It must be Schützen-... and Aufklärungs Battaillon.
It also has to be Jäger instead of Jager
It has to be motorisiert instead of motoriziert

Okay, these are just a few mistakes in only one screenshot. I have seen a lot more in other screenshots. You may think of me as a "Klugscheißer" anyway, as we in germany say, but it would be a bit annoying playing such an excellent (hopefully) game with false german terms, it would contribute much more to the (historical) "mood" if such errors could be erased.

Greetings from Germany,
Stefan

I saw the title of this thread and thought there was an update today. Then I looked at the first post and saw it was from 3 years ago. Sad.
