Got the turn from Olorin. Looks like with the the sync bug on the very first turn. Manila was hit a lot harder then in my replay. Numerous Subs hit. PH was also hit a lot harder. West Virginia will likely sink next turn with 89 FLT.

Dragon and Danae wasn´t even hit. Durban will sink tomorrow. That all I could find at a quick glance.

Synch bug on first turn? Oof. I'd check and triple-check you guys are on the same patch, pwhex, etc.

Yeah, we did that before we started but I´ll double check again. Havn´t gotten the CR from Olorin yet so I´m not sure how much that differs yet. But PH + Manila + the CLs are pretty big differences.

EDIT: Seem like I got the correct CR with the turn file. I now how a different version in the main directory from the one in my archive.

Personally, I would demand a turn with the results I witnessed.

This "sync bug" BS is for the birds.

I don't believe it is a bug.

It's a diabolical conspiracy on the part of JFBs to dupe AFBs into accepting so called "real turns" that have way, way more damage to Allied forces than the Allied player witnessed in the replay.

The replay IS the turn and if the Japanese players are sending the Allied players saved games that don't reflect the turn the Allied player witnessed then they are simply cheating, no ifs ands or buts.

All cheating Japanese players should be banned.

Now that our unequivocal position has been stated you can return to your normal program.

p.s. for any of you too dense to grasp it the aforegoing WAS tongue-in-cheek parody.

Here is the damage done. It was indeed Tennessee that was sunk after a magazine explosion. Overall not too bad from an allied perspective. Force Z is safe and sound just outside Medan.

Things will get worse though. I have a huge fleet of 40+ ships approaching Mersing. Dragon will be scuttled with 90 Fires raging.

I´ll be leaving town again on Friday for the entire weekend. Really want to send the turn to Olorin before I leave. Hopefully I can get it done! I´ll start with the most important first and then work my way backwards.

Olorin is a bit hesitant to send me the combatreport.txt as he thinks it it subject to FoW. I know there are a million threads about this on the forum but my search skills fail me. Can someone with search-fu abilities find a thread where its explained so I can show Nick its alright to send me his combatreport.txt?

PoW - probably has the best AA available until after 10/42 upgrades of any Allied ship.

This also. It's a good AA boat, and isn't that much slower than your CVs. Without double-checking, I think it's a speed match for the North Carolinas/South Dakotas?

Not too bad on VPs, no... but those BBs are going to take ages to fix. That's a ton of damage, even if 20-30 points of the flooding is minor on those guys. The 50+ Sys on California/Arizona is a nightmare.

The rest of your ships got off light, though, and BB Maryland is pretty decent with 16" guns - and she'll be ready very soon. You only have to knock off 2 points of the flooding and then she can coast on pier side the rest of the way.

As for the combat report text file... I just know from experience that it's the same. Couldn't tell you where it's 'splained. It is subject to FoW in the sense that it's never 100% accurate, but it does display the same things to both players. It's the graphical part of the replay that doesn't (notably the air search phase).

Yeah, they will probably be gone until mid 43. But I don´t really care about that. They are too slow and drink too much fuel to be of much use early on.

Yeah, I know too its perfectly fine to send the Japanese CR. In fact all my Japanese opponents have done so. But I can´t just demand Olorin to take my word on it.

Making good progress on the turn. Only US and OZ Naval and land left.

Also got the CR from Olorin so that is sorted out. One of the worst cases of sync problems I have suffered. Almost nothing matches. If this doesn´t sort itself out next turn we are going to exchange files just to be 100% sure.

That's a pain in the butt! Two SNLFs but what's this Kimura detachment?

You do want him stretching out into the Pacific, but ... this is disconcerting on turn 2.

Is Olorin channeling his inner John 3rd??

Lose of Midway hurts in many ways as I'm finding out. Unable to shuttle PBYs through Dutch Harbor to Midway to Pearl and beyond. Great place to have an AS and increase his sub presence off California. Possible SC TF raiding shipping to and from Pearl from USA.

First time I have ever lost Midway in fact. Will certainly be interesting to see why he wants it...just to delay and cause mischief or part of something bigger?

Hard to tell what this is with only the replay. Looks like a invasion for Dutch and a Cold Bay? Or possibly even Kodiak?

Big landing at Mersing!

-4th ID and 33rd ID.
-22nd Recon Rgt.
-7th Tank rgt,
-11th, 21st, 42nd, 55th, 56th and 114th Infantry Rgt unloading.
-25th Army HQ

So about 5 IDs worth of strength Singapore is not going to stand even the first attack...so he wants that out of the way fast. Most likely to free up troops. Could this be the prelude of an India adventure?

I managed to sneak a DM and a CM into Mersing and dropped 100 mines. They were both sunk in the process but something hit a mine during the replay. The RAF sortied against the landing but failed to break through. Buffs did what they could in the air but 2 Zero sweeps cleared the skies.

Around PI a big SCTF is guarding the entrance to Manila. I guess nothing is going to get through. The MKB moved into the Celebes Sea and sank 3 xAKLs. Kaga moved at full speed ending up north of Tarakan. A strike was launched at the "Four stackers" hiding there under a CAP.

quote:

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Tarakan at 67,91

Weather in hex: Clear sky

Raid spotted at 18 NM, estimated altitude 11,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 7 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 13
B5N1 Kate x 12

Allied aircraft
B-339D x 4
P-40E Warhawk x 9

Japanese aircraft losses
B5N1 Kate: 2 destroyed, 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
B-339D: 1 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed

Allied Ships
DD Alden
DD John D. Edwards
DD Whipple

I´m guessing Kaga will join the MKB tomorrow making sure the destruction of the Manila shipping will go on unmolested.

Some escorted strikes went for the shipping at Manila.

quote:

Morning Air attack on TF, near Manila at 79,77

Weather in hex: Thunderstorms

Raid spotted at 28 NM, estimated altitude 11,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 9 minutes

Japanese aircraft

Allied aircraft
P-35A x 11
P-40E Warhawk x 10

Japanese aircraft losses
G4M1 Betty: 3 destroyed, 4 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed by flak

No Allied losses

Allied Ships
xAK Tantalus, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
TK Hai Kwang
AV Langley
xAP Don Esteban, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk

We also caused our first casualty!

27 Ops points is nothing since you get 1000 points per phase (day and night). I would check that they have replenished whatever AA ammo they expended during the air attack last turn. It they go to the Sulu Sea there will be air attacks.

Indeed, but I´m wary of even the smallest OPs loss when its comes to "darting in under cover of darkness". Lost too many ships due to them stopping in the middle of nowhere for no reason at all.

Finally decided against it. The presence of Boise and gang is more worth too much to risk at this point. Without them Nick can move at will without almost any cover.

I agree with your decision. Intercepting a CV TF that is moving around has a low probability of success, and usually you get few shots and even fewer hits on the CVs. If you had four SCTFs to try the intercept that would be worthwhile, but not with just one.

The DD/APD TF could probably fight off your SCTF and escape without much damage.

A lone sub sinks two unescorted tankers outside PB. Should have sent some escorts there but I figured my window to leave the area is very small. So I currently have a large number of unescorted merchants heading for various locations. The longer range ones are heading to Cape while the shorter ones will go to Oz or India.

Nick tries to be sneaky...

quote:

Ground combat at Malacca (49,81)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 65 troops, 2 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 5

Defending force 3688 troops, 33 guns, 18 vehicles, Assault Value = 91

Japanese adjusted assault: 0

Allied adjusted defense: 15

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 99 (fort level 0)

Combat modifiers
Defender: op mode(-), leaders(-), preparation(-), morale(-)
experience(-)
Attacker: shock(+), leaders(+), leaders(-)

Japanese ground losses:
45 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Allied ground losses:
15 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Assaulting units:
Yokosuka 3rd SNLF /5

Defending units:
3/16th Punjab Battalion
2nd Argylls Battalion
5/2nd Punjab Battalion
109th RN Base Force
11 Battery/3 HAA
112th RAF Adv Base Force
272/273rd Bty 80th AT Gun Regiment

Not a fan of using fragments. We don´t have a HR against it though so its fine. I´ll have to be ready to defend against this in India/OZ though.

Nick certainly isn´t predictable. No merger of the Kaga/MKB. Its a shame I didn´t go in with Boise/Houston as I could potentially have smacked the Jolo invasion.

Multiple sweeps hit Manila. Empty skies though as my squadrons are in hiding or have left the PI.

Dutch and Cold Bay it is...this invasion really makes me scratch my head. Just a feint? Or something bigger? Sadly he brought enough to quickly overcome Dutch. Even if I had any reinforcements they wouldn´t get there in time.

Pearl Harbour

The KB lingers...not really sure why. The only thing I can think of is that he is going to use KB in NORPAC shortly. Sweeps hit PH and wrecks my Fighters there. At least we shoot down a few in return.

But I can´t keep this up more then 2-3 days more. I don´t have any planes in the pool. I guess the bug(?) where sweeps arn´t detected by radar is still not fixed?

quote:

Morning Air attack on Pearl Harbor , at 180,107

Weather in hex: Severe storms

Raid detected at 20 NM, estimated altitude 25,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 6 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 18

Allied aircraft
P-26A x 1
P-36A Mohawk x 24
P-40B Warhawk x 38
F4F-3 Wildcat x 4
SNJ-3 Texan x 1

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
P-36A Mohawk: 2 destroyed
P-40B Warhawk: 1 destroyed

Aircraft Attacking:
10 x A6M2 Zero sweeping at 20000 feet

Two more sweeps do even better. At least I´m shaving off some of those irreplaceable starting KB pilots.

I need to figure out where Olorin is heading...and soon. I figure he will need to shave off 2 IDs from Singers to deal with PB and Java. That leaves 4-5 IDs that are free to go somewhere else. But where?

-NORPAC?
-India?
-OZ?
-PH?

I´m thinking that India is actually most likely given the opening. He needs Singers to start moving on India. But he can also quickly shift south and go for Java -> OZ. NORPAC and PH I deem quite unlikely. Especially PH. Then again a serious NORPAC campaign to target US industry have only been done once before I believe? But PjH disappeared before that one played out if I remember correctly?

Thoughts?
