I think that person you are referring to who didn't "make his homework" was..... Alfred?

Not sure? He is usually on my green button so I don´t see what he writes.

For him to use paras he would have to take a base and then fly them from it. Should give me some warning to rail in para guards.

Coal Harbour?

Heh, that is a good point! I have a vague memory of taking care of that when he landed at CH but I´ll make sure when I get the next turn!

Nice to see your preparations. I remain a lurker on the sidelines as to playing this game (I don't have the time to commit), but have read enough AARs to say that we've seen over the years many extended perimeter gambits. I think the problem with these gambits is that if they don't play out, and the Allied player is good, it hastens the Japanese demise.

The Hawaii/West Coast gambit does lead to an interesting thought, and I surmise we will see it soon. Why not a December 41 invasion of the West Coast? As to your game, while I agree that your defensive strategy sounds good, I think your opponent will strike just to see how an invasion plays out.

The facts that an invasion never came after Coal Harbor is one of the reasons I don´t think a WC invasion will happen. The chances of success would have been a lot better if the Japanese had blitzed straight for say Portland in early 42. Less troops, no forts, pretty much no Allied air force.

For Japan only players, they don't realize that until mid-May the Allies are hurting badly for construction engineers worse that Japan is. By the end of 42 we are swimming in them. Mr SeaBee is everywhere and those large SeaBee Rgt units are just a nice luxury. Building forts to 6 or large in USA is not a problem by now for Jocke.

In hindsight the Japanese should have made Portland their target instead of Pearl Harbor. I doubt you could have held Portland against the forces used for the capture of Hawaii.

I expect we will see a Japanese player give it a try in a game in the not too distant future. It is the ultimate in Kamikaze missions. Sacrifice several thousand VP for elimination of all shipping built at Portland.

Everyone has looked at CH as a base for launching air or para attacks on the big bases to the southeast, but I think it was also supposed to be a way to isolate Prince Rupert and defend it against reinforcement from the sea before he took it. When you rushed troops there before the Coal Harbour attack his plan to take an excellent port with shipyard was scuttled. His next nearest shipyard was at PH or Hakodate!

Might be! He has some troops prepping for PR but it has never been enough to pose even a remotely serious threat.

PS. Won´t be able to update tonight.

Ledo defenders
_____________________________________________________________________________

I can now happily report that the remnants of the Ledo defenders have reached Allied lines. They are seriously beat up but that doesn´t really matter.

The most important thing is that I can now recombine two more Indian IDs which are unrestricted to boot. The OOB needed for a Burma invasion is starting to fill out.

How soon can you capture Comila and Dimapur and force the Japanese to march out of India? It will not be a pleasant trek for the Japanese through the malaria infested jungle.

Looks like Nicholas could use a better commander too! Crew will gain experience faster with better leadership, no? Or does that only work for pilots?

The first 8 Fletchers have some poor experience levels, especially night. The next 8 are much better.

Where was she headed, and what other ships were present? I'm presuming she was not carrying troops when she was sunk. So what was she up to? My guess would be she was intending to evacuate some troops from India.

There was troops aboard. I think its the 5th Guards ID moving from India to Singers. Just a hunch...

Sorry for deviating a bit from my usual format. Not much happening so rather then posting a lot of "nothing here" I just post what little happens.

Might be some fireworks tomorrow if things work out (they never do).

Then you should have gained more than just 17 VP. Even better than reported.

I was thinking about surviving troops being rescued by other ships. The game mechanics impose a risk of disruption for troops aboard ships. Should the game increase that risk for troops who survive their transports being sunk? Or is that just too much complexity to add? This is not the best place to ask these questions, but this is where the inspiration occurred.

Those troops will be disrupted just from the loss of a good chunk of the unit TOE. I am not sure if there is another disruption/fatigue/morale penalty for wet underwear!

Wet underwear and getting scattered all over he ocean do wonders for unit cohesion. What happens if members of a squad end up on different ships? How do you account for all personnel and reunite them once they are accounted for?

In this game, the Japanese just land the remnants where they were going in the first place and let them conquer the place with wet socks filled with chunks of coral.

Air war NORPAC
_____________________________________________________________________________

Fishing a bit for VPs here. I did alright but not stellar. My pools are in great shape and pilots are flowing in faster then I use them up so I figured I put them to use.

Used only freshly trained pilots (50/70/70). Ended up getting under 1:1 which was a bit of a disappointed. 44 VPs plus though and we shift the VP ratio down to 3,211:1. I´ll hit my target of 10k VPs in 3-4 days.

Need to build up a bit of a VP reserve as I´ll most likely lose Chungking in a not distant future. I´ll let the pilots rest FAT and take replacements and then I´ll go again in a couple of days.

My CAP trap in India fell through as Jeff stood down his bombers. Of course.

There was a Trappist Monastary a couple of miles outside Winnipeg that brewed beer to help finance their costs. Their beer was not as strong as the one in your link (6% instead of 9%) but was too bitter with hops taste. The Chimay Bleue sounds more to my liking!
