Ambon with a high DL means he's using the recon version of the Libs there. He doesn't get many of those for a while... this might give a clue to his objectives.

Turn is away. I tried some offensive action in all four areas of interest: Burma, Darwin, Rabaul, and Alaska.

Only time will tell.

During the morning the Rasher continues to take punishment...and since it is morning hopefully all the night time movement of troops at Rabaul worked.

75 Oscars refuse to fly escort twice, and between a morning and afternoon strike the Betties get crushed. Oh well, ...

Kaga's speed up to 14 knots now, we will let her fix all of her minor engine damage, and see how fast she repairs her system damage before yanking her out of port and sending her back to Hiroshima area...

If he's not going for Darwin... there's not much point in landing at the islands. They're too small to work on their own, without much in the way of port capability.

No better time to use my midget subs than now I think...severe storms, medium moon, no Allied detection on the midgets there.

700 mines, with close to 350 freshly laid and over 150 type 88s...

I will also LRCAP the base...hoping to score an aerial ambush.

No fast transports in or out tonight...but I did think about sending destroyers in...and I would if I though more troops were arriving (which I don't think to be the case).

Should I put them all on 1 hex patrol? Or leave them as is?

I am thinking they would do better on patrol...but that is merely guesswork on my part.

I should think they work better on patrol. This also lets you set them to a deep water hex if you want to see if they can survive an attack...

I used patrol also but they seemed to run up system damage pretty rapidly so keep an eye on them.

I got lazy and left them on default...If no bombardment tonight, then I will switch them to patrol. Also, I have no fuel left at Rabaul now...so that played a part in the decision too.

You can dock them to prevent fuel usage, but in that case they MAY not attack. I'm not sure on that end.

24x4=96 possible VP gift with all those midgets...I got to thinking if all those midgets would drain the op points of the bombardment fleets making them remain close by...vulnerable to a lurking KB strike. Missed opportunity perhaps?

I think a string of them could slow a bombardment TF down enough for a KB trap. Sounds like a good idea. Of course, the lack of fuel is going to make things tough.

Not really my experience. Mostly, they just sink and provide the Allies with 4 free VPs. Ops points burn on the Allied ships appears negligible - when I've encountered them, sometimes as many as 3 or 4 in a single night phase, my ships have been completely unimpeded in terms of how much they moved.

That is good then, I got to thinking it might be gamey with some afterthoughts...
