These fighter jockeys are starting to get their low ground skills up a little bit.

Being out of the x3 terrain really helps Japanese bombers here. There is a shock attack here later today.

Thru the river line like a hot knife thru butter. The line is being unopposed to the west for some reason.

These are fairly important hexes, and I am glad to be thru them. Only one more really difficult hex prior to the Chungking plains, and I don't believe there are any troops there yet. The Japanese armor is rolling down the superior roads.

Indian Adventures:

At Comilla I have 5 divisions plus artillery and armor to counter the heavy Allied concentration at Dacca. Still, the Allies have put together an impressive 12 division push here with at least 2 American Divisions.

I hope to trash some more Allied units from Ledo again this day, and I have some troops set to reserve pursuit.

The limited supply movement to Silchar and points east, probably will hurt me far more than the Allies, as it has been my experience that troops in the field are easier to supply than troops at bases during the Monsoon.

This should be sweet. The morning strike of 17 Kates, sinks a PC, hits and duds, and then hits and explodes. Poor showing...what will the afternoon be like.

Should be a turkey shoot with all these cruisers and xaps and xaks.

Banzai!

It should have been sweeter as a heavy cruiser force didn't sweep into the port during the night.

Major disappointment as there are no afternoon flights.

I had Jocke dead to rights with only 23 fighters. Argh! The Allies had the force with them today!

Should I pursue? I know Allied Carriers are to the south, my search only goes about 9 good hexes below Lakatoro. Plus I only have a portion of the KB here, over 300 planes but still light to go anywhere.

Plus, I am deathly afraid of leaving my land based search arcs.

I will pull back...it is all smoke and mirrors at this point anyhow. Odds are he will disband his ships to port, and I bet he has plentiful AA. Plus he has a strong Cruiser force he will try to close with my carriers with, and perhaps he will rush in with carriers from afar.

Jocke is either probing my air attack range, or he is doing that and setting up CAP traps although the range looks a little long...but he could be using Lightnings.

I swing and miss on the Truant, it is a cripple and made two hexes last turn.

I really blundered here.

I should have had my cruiser force move to my base adjacent of his ships, instead of running in and heading for Ndeni.

A few ships sunk though. That PC ate a few torpedoes.

I am going to sleep on my turn. Nothing rash here. We are saving rash for November.

Plus, Jocke informs me he is going drinking so if I time my turn correctly, he can do it three sheets to the wind so to speak. Or recovering.

Always wanted to use that smiley.

Finished the turn, but not in time for Jocke's binge, so it might be awhile.

Could be some neat fireworks, especially where you least expect it.

I doubt he'll risk CVs at this point. On naval/port strike your force would take care of most of whats left, although he'd probably run with what he could. Worth a shot though.

I did make a run in, and I used a very strange TF configuration of four cruisers.

I never used a TF like this. Ever. My search spots no enemy subs in the area...but that the Allies have a lot of destroyers.

I want to attempt to conserve my DD strength.

I have additional surface assets merging on Ndeni.

Just waiting on Allied High Command to recover.

Oh, one last thing, is I think Jocke should have cottoned on to the carrier force moving in position the day before, as Kates spotted several subs and were spotted in turn. I remember Jocke mentioning in Obvert vs Jocke, that he normally only watches the replay during interesting days.

It is no just destroyers you need to preserve.

Considering the date, anything you do away from the West Coast is purely tactical.  It may gain you some tactical positive benefits but it is not going to gain you strategic positive benefits.  What you expose yourself to are strategic setbacks.  A tactical victory, such as sinking 3 Allied CVs but in the process having 4 KB Carriers in the repair yards for 3 months can be a strategic defeat.

Lesson learned this turn!

Allies vanish as expected. Allies have good detection levels on carriers, which are retiring.

I have a tank regiment and a brigade at the crossroads, no where near what it takes to secure against the 12 units approaching.

I am close to capturing the Ledo evacuees....

Dacca/Comilla are stand off with about equal forces on both sides...

Very interesting...I wish I could cut the 12 units supply off, but for troops out in the field here it is almost impossible. Allied supply will get thru, whereas my troops in jungle towns have greatly diminished supply.

The Illustrious hits twice, and the Jupiter dodges the Japanese torpedoes. We did get a volley off at the Illustrious & Hornet though.

I don't think a lot of players ever look at moonlight. To me, I would be hard pressed to use the Allied carriers with 0 percent moonlight this early. Even just subs, heck I just put a fish into a carrier at 15% moonlight south of Noumea, and nailed another one off Oz in a previous dark, dark night.

If my other destroyer could have dodged one 1000# bomb, then 4 destroyers would have lit into this CV group at knife fighting range. What could have been sweeter?

I will take the exchange the last several days, we seem to have traded lucky rolls over the last few days.

He sure has two Yank carriers pretty far from the West Coast. I think over the next few weeks, he needs to see splinters of my carriers so he doesn't concentrate.

It had nothing to do with moonlight. You should have charged with PC Nire!

Who has thought about Ki61a thru Ki61d, KAI version, and then the Ki100I and Ki100II versions research and development in a pdu off environment?

Gadzooks, I am getting a headache trying to plan it out!

GreyJoy did but with old dead AARs coming back to life I better not post anything about it.

Right now I have 2 size 30 at 0 percent on the 61b, and I am thinking of skipping r&d on the 61b, and going straight to the 61c which arrives three months later at 9/43.

I have another factory on the 61c repairing, another on the KAI repairing, and a final one on the Ki100I repairing.

The c model has cannons, the d model is the first one with CL cannons. 3 Sentai for the C, and 4 for the D.

Another stumbling block: the progression skips the C model. 61a to 61b to 61d to KAI to ki100I and ki 100II.
And then Ki61c to Ki61d.

The Tojo line is much easier to plan for...thank goodness. I hinted that the PDU off is slightly pro Allies, and one reason is that everyone who plays pdu off screws up.

I had hoped to use the Tojo to sweep, but the Allies simply don't fly CAP. Strike 1. Now, I will be using the Tojo heavily on the West Coast and Magwe, and they will have to fight off enemy sweeps & bombers. I expect plane losses to be horrendous. I don't think I have overbuilt, but I am up from my original production of 60 a month to 90 (all in one factory).

Currently I plan on moving the Tojo IIb r&d over to IIc in a few days, when the IIB advances to 10/1/42.

The IIC is a plane that will be with me to the end thanks to the upgrade path, but I plan on moving the IIc r&d factories over to something else when that research is done probably around 2/43 or 3/43.

Possible choices are Grace, Ki100I and Ki100II, Ki94II or Sam. Just not sure at this early date.

It will allow me also to move an engine factory off the Ha34 as there are no overwhelming numbers of Helens flying in this game either.

I will have 4 & 1/3rd Sentais for Magwe and the West Coast.

In mid to late 43 we will be transitioning to the Ha33 engine for Judy, Tony and A6M8. This will be away from the Ha35 pretty much, as we will also be upgrading all those Oscars and half the Tojo to Franks and the Ha45.

The A6M5 is a plane that will be in production for the whole game....as many squadrons' upgrades end there. Other big users of the Ha35 for the rest of the game will be the Lilly IIb and IIc, Nick, and of course the Oscar (which will be in production the whole game). So, it is an important engine, and one that needs to get to 500 for the bonus quickly, but care needs to be taken not to expand it too much keeping pace with current game demands in 1942.

About half the non-carrier A6M2 are stuck here until I get the Sen Baku FB in 1944. I have no r&d on this plane, content to let the A6M2 act as deep area CAP, and trainers. With good pilots it can down un-escorted bombers in 44. It also makes for a funky kamikaze.

India

I have caught up to the Ledo evacuees. For the last two turns they have been heading northwest, now their movement is west towards the Allied relief column. I should have a sold few days of attacking them.

Dacca is subject to malaria and monsoon...so I suspect his capacity hex is having a tough time getting the needed supplies, as is Comilla.

Fun and adventure in India...It would be nice to get these 9 units to surrender. They have been forced to retreat twice, and can't be in great shape.

I advanced the Ki61a r&d factories (2 size 30) straight to the Ki61d. So arrival dates look something like this:

Ki61a: 10/42

Ki61b: 6/43 no r&d

Ki61c: 9/43 one size 30 r&d factory, repairing (my guess is it will come in 7/43)

Ki61d: 4/44 2 fully repaired r&d factories (goal is to get it 8/43)

KAI: 8/44 eventually will have 3 r&d factories on it.

100I: 3/45 eventually will have 4 r&d factories on it, one now repairing, plus engine bonus

Now the question is how big of a Kawasaki engine factory do I make?

I think we might get 1 turn in over the next 5 days.
