Is there a way to partially load cargo (e.g. supplies, fuel, oil) onto transports? I am trying to figure out how to not have a large tanker or cargo transport strip a base of all of its resources or how to send smaller supply shipments to remote, under-supplied islands.

I read section 6.3 TASK FORCE LOADING/UNLOADING in the manual, but it seems to imply full loads for transports; I did not see a mention of how to do partial loads. Ideally, I would like to be able to specify the numerical amount of supply to load, but I do not think that is possible. Any alternatives on how to load a smaller amount of cargo and then send a transport on its way would be welcome! Thanks!

There isn't i am afraid. Use small ships is the only practical solution. You can make a lot of ships load at same time waste port loading points and have that way incomplete loading but it think it is something that is not manageable if you want to finish the game this decade.

Thanks for the quick reply. I understand that I need to choose smaller transports when loading supplies.

Would you have any suggestions on how I can interrupt a transport from its current loading operation and send him on to his destination? I am assuming that I can cancel the load operation and that the transport will speed off to its destination with whatever it loaded during the previous turn. Is there a specific way to control this kind of behavior? I will experiment on my own, of course, but if you know off hand, that will be helpful. Thanks!

simply cancel loading. there is a button on the right for doing so

if you are loading troops, it is often very helpful (for Japan at least) to select "load troops only"... as those AK-t ships tend to carry way too much supply for always starved Japan

You could also make the TF an AMPH TF, which means only an 80%(?) max load.

You can also have the ships load while not docked. This should slow down the load rate and give you the opportunity to cancel the loading the next turn.

Load at a small port and check daily until you reach the amount you want to send out.

You cannot put tankers or AO's in an amphib group.

Yeah but all of that weights on management time and our brain use. You can do it an it might work but i prefer to have all supply mostly in autopilot just managing from time to time.

I am understanding the logistics aspect of this game more based on your feedback and further forays into the manual and the forums.

It seems to me that you want to identify some key supply hubs and have your larger tankers and transports shuttle stuff there, in autopilot mode (i.e. computer controlled continuous supply). You want to then have the smaller capacity tankers and transports draw off supply from these hubs for delivery to smaller bases; this avoids stripping the hubs of all their supplies while allowing you to relay supplies to needed areas. This can be done in autopilot if there is no risk of overfilling the destination, or manual if you addressing a fluid supply situation. It also seems that barges are the answer to supplying the small atolls and islands that may surround or be within reach of your designated hubs, probably in autopilot mode as well. And finally, once you have your logistics network set up, you need to provide escorts and protection to your sea lanes to stop raiders.

Ideally, it seems like you want your naval supply to be as automated as possible, but still retain the ability to send an emergency tanker or cargo ship to a drop off when the situation requires it.

Barges don't go but a couple hexes. There are numerous small xAKs though that are good for smaller atolls and such.

You could try slowing down the loading rate at a base by jacking up the "Supplies Required" on the base screen to make the stock of supplies less than 4 times the needed supplies. That should slow the loading rate to 10% of the total supplies on hand. I haven't tried this myself.

I am not sure the base would hold back from loading a ship. Bases will send to nearby units in the field even if stockpiling is set, but they cease to send to other bases.

A different idea - ships cannot load as much if they are not docked. If you have other ships including support ships at the base you could occupy all the dock space and set the TF to load without being docked (loading from barges/lighters). Alternatively, add the extra ships to the TF you are loading until the total TF is too big to dock. Just don't let it leave base until you transfer the extra ships out of the TF.

Yeah, I haven't tried it myself. Just saw it in the game manual and figured out it was the reason for painfully slow loading of ships in ports low on supplies.
