Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. Allied #3. German U-boats. North Atlantic.

However, German u-boats do decide to initiate combat. They successful find, surprise and isolate RN forces in the 0 box. German u-boats have enough surprise points to force a submarine combat and choose to use the rest to increase their damage to CW CPs. As a result, German sees a u-boat unit sunk and a second one damaged and forced to abort. In return the CW loses 3 more CP and sees another 3 CPs forced to abort.

Both sides stay but the axis decline to commit their subs so combat ends.

The CW has only 2 CPs left in the North Atlantic. With a current setup using 10 CPs this means that the CW is at a deficiency of 8 CPs in the North Atlantic.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. Allied #3. CW HQ Reorg.

Gort is able to reorg 4 CPs, which assuming that they can make it to the North Atlantic and there are no further losses from German u-boats or Italian subs would leave the CW down 4 CPs in the North Atlantic. This will require some reshuffling of convoyed RPs in order to maintain full production and minimize the number of saved oil points used for production.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. Axis #5. Japan Combine. Strategic Bombing. Sian, China.

Japan takes a combine and the other action worth mentioning is a failed strategic bombing raid on Sian.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. Axis #5. Italy. Sardinia.

Italy takes a land and manages to disembark a garrison to the island of Sardinia. The Italians really didn't want to give that island away for free to the allies.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. Axis #5. Germany. Ground Strikes. The Eastern Front.

German attempts three ground strikes against Soviet stacks in the north. The first is opposed by the Soviet fighters which are in turned counter intercepted by Luftwaffe fighters. The Red fighters, even though at a slight disadvantage to the Luftwaffe fighters, win this battle by shooting down the Luftwaffe bombers. Another blow by the Red Air Force against Goering's Luftwaffe.

The second ground strike misses but the third one manages to disorganize Yeremenko.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. Axis #5. Germany. The Eastern Front. North.

The city of Vitebsk and Yeremenko are finally isolated. The Wehrmacht in the North is hoping for a break in the weather in which case they are positioned to breakthrough the Soviet lines after which they look to have a clear shot to Moscow.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. CW Combine. RN, North Atlantic.

The CW takes a combine and is able to put 4 more CPs into the North Atlantic. This gives them a total of 6 CPs which is 4 less than the required (or desired) 10 CPs. The CW has no prospect of adding any more CPs to the North Atlantic this turn.

Both the CW and the axis choose not to initiate combat.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. RN. Italian Coast.

Off the Italian Coast the RN does elect to initiate combat. A Blenheim bomber unit succeeds in finding Italian ships there, but the ships are not surprised.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. RN. Italian Coast. Naval Battle. Round 1.

The result is an air naval battle that the Italians cannot avoid but can easily fend off.

Both sides elect to stay.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. RN. Italian Coast. Naval Battle. Round 2.

Round 2 sees RN carrier based and RAF land based planes finding, surprising and isolating Italian RM ships and transports. All planes get through produce disappointing results. Though, they do manage to damage the only Italian transport.

Both sides again decide to stay. The Italians because they have to and hoping for an end to this battle.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. RN. Italian Coast. Naval Battle. Round 3.

The Italians do not get their wish. The battle continues with RN carrier based and RAF land based planes again finding and surprising the Italian fleet.

Deciding not to be greedy and also including sea box 1, which contains 2 Italian CPs but also an Italian fighter unit, the RN isolates the sea box containing only the damaged Italian transport. The RN wishes to guarantee that it will finish it off this time. And they do with RN and RAF bombers producing results less than par. However, still good enough to send the only remaining Italian transport to the bottom of the Med. This means the only transport capability the Italians have left are infantry divisions.

Again the Italians must stay. Of course the RN does too.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. RN. Italian Coast. Naval Battle. Round 4.

My goodness, the RN again finds and surprises the Italians. The RN isolates sea box 0, which contains the only remaining surface ships the Italians have in the area, and have enough surprise points to force a surface battle. The result is that the RN avoids the Italian fighter unit, is able to sink one CP and force the second to abort and has driven all Italian surface ships out of the Italian coast.

Both sides again decide to stay but fail to find the other. This naval battle off the Italian coast ends in a decisive victory for the RN.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. RN. The East Med. Naval Air Battle. Round 1.

Though the RAF loses a Wellington bomber unit the air to air portion of the naval air battle is one sided in favor of the CW. RAF and RN bombers successfully target all Italian RM surface ships in the Eastern Med. The Italian RM loses a heavy cruiser and sees a battleship and heavy cruisers forced to abort.

Both sides decide to stay. The Italians, and Germans, out of necessity to kept that large Italian army in Egypt and the Middle East in supply. Or so I thought?

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. CW. The Eastern Med. Libya, Egypt and the Middle East.

I am NOT playing with the limited oversea supply optional rule.

Italian land, air and naval forces except for territorials are no longer in supply. Last turn the axis had only air units in the East Med, like this turn, but the all forces were in supply. What changed? Is it because there's no Italian ships or convoys left off the Italian coast?

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. CW. The Red Sea. Eritrea.

The Italian days in Eritrea are numbered. If the allies get another impulse with fine weather then they will likely end this turn.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. Axis #9. Weather.

I believe the old saying is that "General Winter" is the ally to Russia. For this turn however, I think it's "Captain Rain" and now "Major Storm" who are the Soviet allies.

Turn 13. Sep/Oct 1941. Axis #9. Japan. Combine.

Japan takes a combine and continues to build their Pacific forces that will have to eventually face the Americans. More and faster build up of the Japanese to this end is required and will be made a higher priority.
