Turn 17. May/June 1942. Axis #3. Japan. HQ Reorg. Southern China.

When making caps off the land combat I noticed a serious tactical error that I made as the Japanese. The disorganized air unit in the Chinese city of Hengyang would be destroyed next impulse by the Chinese 1-4 mot unit unless I used Yamashita to reorganize it. And that's exactly what I did.

On the advice and recommendation of General Centuur the Soviets rail the blue factory in Moscow to Chelyabinsk, east of the Urals.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #4. USSR. Land Combat.

And hurt them they do. This outcome is a direct result of the German failure to clear and secure their northern flank on the Eastern Front. A failure as the German player I will never repeat again!

LESSON LEARNED: Clear and secure your flanks.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #4. Northern China. communist Chinese.

Speaking of flanks, Japanese forces in Tungkwan including command is in danger of being flank around both their northern and southern flanks. That is, they're in danger of being encircled by the communist Chinese.

Mao did toy with the ideal of attacking the two IJA units in Tungkwan but the odds were too low for the potential gain. Instead that will continue, for now, to fight the Japanese through maneuver.

Also, note a Nationalist cavalry division that work it's way into the mountains of the ANHWEI province and if not countered could capture Nanking.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #4. USN. Land Combat. Saipan, Mariana Islands.

The USA successfully captures Saipan via amphibious invasion.

OK, here's a pet peeve I have with MWiF. MWiF prior to adding HQ support was showing this attack at +18. So I added HQ support from Nimitz that MWiF indicated that the odds were now +19.5. Because of these odds, which ensured a successful landing with a have chance of no losses I decided not to add in any air support. Well, when I got to the land combat the odds now showed as +13.833 and not +19.5. Misleading to say the least. And honestly if the attack had failed I would have to have gone back to the ground support phase, added in all I could and redone this attack.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #4. Western Allies. Torch. Western Task Force Landings. Morocco.

The USA secures a vital port in Morocco through which reinforcements will pour through. The CW lands north of Casablanca capturing Rabat and severing the rail link to Casablanca thus preventing the possibility of the axis railing in reinforcements.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #4. Western Allies. Torch. Pre Landing Ground Strikes.

Oh by the way, the Torch landings were preceded by two allied ground strikes. One by the USN, which disorganized the Vichy defender in Casablanca. The second by the RAF against Tripoli that was ineffective.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Allied #4. Western Allies. Torch. Central and Eastern Task Force Landings.

The Central Task force successfully takes a port of Gabes, Tunisia through which reinforcements already in place in the Western Med will flow.

The Eastern Torch Task force take Tripoli, Syria. It was a strategic error by the Vichy, actual the German player, that allowed this. During last phase when the German player took a land, he intended to move one of the two Vichy territorials in Beirut to Tripoli. But got busy in Russia and forgot to move the unit. The historical equivalent is that orders were written by the Germans and given to the Vichy's to move a corp but the Vichy courier or radio operator got busy and forgot to send them. He better hope he's among the Vichy notional's that are surrendering to the allies.

Turn 17. May/June 1942. Axis #5. Italy. Syria, Middle East, North Africa.

Finally, the Italian armies in North Africa and the Middle East have something to do and that something is to destroy the CW beachhead in Syria. To counter this, the RN has been given the high priority mission of gaining full control of the East Med and denying supply to the Italian army. While this mission is no different that over the past several turns, it now has a deadline which if not meet would have dire consequences for the two CW divisions holding Tripoli, Syria
