Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #8. Japan. Tungkwan, China. Land Combat.

Japan follows up their ineffective ground strike with almost equally ineffective land combat. The attack costs Japan two land units and disorganizes 5 remaining survivors.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #8. Italy. Land Combat. Egypt.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #8. The Western Front. The Balkans.

The Western Front.

Germany's slaughter of the French army and occupation of French cities, factories and resources continue.

The Balkans.

Germany activates Hungary, no reaction by the USA. von Bock, an elite German infantry corps and artillery division are railed into Hungary and on the border with Yugoslavia in preparation for the German invasion of that country (i.e., Yugoslavia).

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #9. France.

The French take a combine and use that to move 4 heavy cruisers into the Italian coast and to move the French 4-3 infantry corps from Nice to Marseilles. France and Italy are still not at war and the move of the French cruisers into the Italian coast was to encourage the Italians to keep that arrangement. The move of the infantry corps to Marseilles was to defend against a German attempt for total conquest of France. Also, it was moved to protect several disorganized ships forced to relocate there from the German capture of Brest.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #9. CW. The East Med.

With the situation in Egypt dire, the CW takes a combined in order to both move Gort and the Terr in Egypt and to engage the Italian RM in the East Med hoping for a miracle.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #9. CW. The East Med. Search.

And a miracle they get. The CW rolls a 1 and the Italians a 10, which allows the CW to isolate the sea box containing the two Italian transports, select a surface engage and have enough surprise points left over to choose their target twice. Which obviously will be the two Italian transports.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #9. CW. The East Med. Naval (Surface) Combat. Round 1.

The RN sinks one transport but only manages to damage the second one. Though not sunk this will definitely set back Italian sea transport and invasion capability significant. Still, a win for the RN in the East Med.

Both sides decide to stay.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #9. CW. The East Med. Search. Round 2.

The CW rolls a 5 and the Italians an 8, which means the CW again surprises the Italian RM. Like last round, the CW chooses to isolate Sea Boxes 0 and 1 and uses 4 or their surprise points to force a surface combat.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #9. CW. The East Med. Naval (Surface) Combat. Round 2.

Round 2 also goes to the RN, though as the Italian player I made a tactical error. I put the destroy result on the BB Littorio, when I should have put it on the Italian CP. Given the rolls I had, if I had done that then the BB Littorio would only have been aborted instead of damaged and aborted.

The RN comes out of the battle very well with only one heavy cruiser damaged, which was also aborted.

Both sides stay, but combat ends as neither side was able to find the other for a third round of naval combat.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #9. CW. Egypt.

Gort and the British 8th army are in crisis in Egypt. Hoping in vain for the turn to end when it didn't on a roll of 7 against a 30% chance that it would. Italy will get at least one more chance in Egypt to make hay while the sun shines before the turn ends.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis # 10. Japan. China.

Japan takes a land. With most of their army still disorganized for last impulse, Japan makes minor adjustments to their position in Northern China. Specifically, trying to get supply the 3-2 warlord north of Talyan so it can finally "liberate" the RP that the Chinese 0-2 partisan has been sitting on for a few turns now.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #10. Balkans. France.

Germany takes a land.

The Balkans.

Germany activates Hungary, which produces a reaction by the USA (i.e., chit is added to the German/Italian entry pool). Germany also rails in three more units (infantry corps, armor corps and AT division).

France.

Toulouse is seized. The Germans form up for a land combat on Lyons but call it off when they see the +3A odds.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #10. Italy. Egypt.

An Italian mech captures the Suez Canal, and also an oil point. The USA reacts and adds a second chit this impulse to the German/Italian entry pool.

The Italians form up for a land combat on the 3-2 Terr but call the attack off when the best they can get is a +8A attack. No reason to press their luck. In this case, the risks (i.e., potential loss of 3 of 5 attackers) FAR outweighed any potential gain of a successful attack.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #11. Weather.

This turn continues as does the weather. Well, a there's a slight variation, instead of storm in the North Monsoon it's rain. Otherwise, fine across the globe.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #11. RN Port Strike.

The CW take a combined and use 2 air missions to port strike the three Italian ships in La Spezia, Italy. The Italians win the surprise roll, but not enough to avoid the strike. However, they do manage to reduce RN carrier plane bombs by 2 points. The RN still manage to damage the Italian BB. So, all in all this port strike was a victory for the RN. No planes lost and an Italian battleship damaged.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #11. CW. East Med. Egypt.

The RN in the East Med try to but fail to initiate naval combat with the Italian RM.

In Egypt Gort's HQ retreats across the Suez Canal to Port Said.

End of Turn.

The turn ends and Egypt surrenders to the Italians. It's desperate for the CW in the Middle East.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Destroyed and Repair Pools.

Though the Italians conquered Egypt and captured the Suez Canal their navy paid a price. The Italians lost one transport and saw their second transport damaged. Also, two Italian RM battleships and one heavy cruiser were damaged.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Final Production. Japan.

Japan has more factories than resources. For Japan, this war is about increasing their supply of oil and non-oil (i.e., raw) resources to feed those factories. Japan has 4 factories sitting idle. With a production multiplier of 1, that's equivalent to 4 build points.
