Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Allied #1. Western Allies. East Africa.

The conquest of Italian Somaliland is all that stands between the allies and a total conquest of Italy.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Allied #1. USSR. Land Combat.

It bites rolling low on a "near" automatic attack. I guess better this attack than a critical low to medium odds attack.

I hope that von Leeb is seriously contemplating leaving Genoa for points west. If he stays where he is he will be engulfed by the Allies. Given the two French partisans, the Germans have a serious problem in southeast France, which is not something I have seen before as the Axis, as that is some of the best defensive terrain in the game. If you can't get units to defend it, that doesn't help. The fact that the German unit in Marseilles is a garrison also doesn't help, as it can't move into mountains without flipping.

von Leeb and the few German forces in that area are certainly boxed in. I don't see any way of getting them out of any way of moving German forces into Southern (old vichy) France. I've certainly "screwed the pooch" on that for the Germans.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1943. Axis #3. Japan. Nationalist China. Hainan.

Japan uses their three land moves of their combine to put Yamashira with a division in a position to block the allies from Pakhoi.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1943. Axis #3. Japan. China Sea.

Japan uses its two naval moves to respond to the USN carrier strike force in the China Sea. The IJN manages to surprise the USN naval forces there.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1943. Axis #3. IJN. China Sea. Air to Air. Anti-Aircraft.

A fierce but mostly one sided air to air battle takes places between the IJN and USN. USN AA is inaccurate. IJN AA drives off the only USA bomber to get through the air to air.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1943. Axis #3. USN. China Sea. Fleet Retreat.

Those ships that still had any combat effectiveness retreat to Singapore. The two US carriers that didn't, because all their planes had been shot down, were moved to Pearl. These two carriers next turn will return to the US West Coast to get their air wing replacements.

While the Battle of the China Sea is, no doubt, a great victory for the Japanese navy, the USN fleet defeated there did their job. They kept Japanese carrier task forces out of the South China Sea and they kept ("baited") the Japanese fleet from raiding US held rear sea areas such as the Bismarck Sea and the Marianas.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1943. Axis #3. IJN. East Indian Ocean.

The IJN takes a long shot and attempts to initiate combat but fails to find the US.
