Thanks for posting that - I was quite depressed after that last impulse, but that kind of puts things back into perspective.

The Fleet Air Arm, the Regia Marina and of course the poor Spanish have really taken a beating.

However, everyone (except for the Spanish, of course) is producing much more than they are losing; usually much more.

Not Italy if you count the old battleship. Although Italy has a high production and build for 9 BPs.

I counted for Allied losses 13 BP's in Bay of Biscay. Destroyed and damaged ships (both CW and Spanish), planes and pilots.

Yes. That was a disaster. I should have selected 'avoid combat' instead of hoping that Axis would lose the air combat.

Edit: Striving to be aggressive and all that.

Been there, done that and regretting it when air to air combat ends up to a disaster...

End of Turn

Both Germany and USSR place their chits in the offensive pool. USSR also moves one chit from the defensive to the offensive pool.

US place one chit in the Japanese pool.

US decide to relocate the Pacific Fleet to Pearl Harbor and begin sending lend lease to CW and France. Two chits moved to the tension pool.

During the return to step phase France sail two cruisers(from East Med 3 box) through the West Med where the Italian cruiser Zara patrols. All other ships and aircraft in the area are on their way to post and can not be included. Will Zara intercept the French cruisers?

Edit: Note that I think that the '3' shown in the picture above is wrong. A 1 is needed for Zara to find. Since no other ships are allowed to join.

New Turn: Initiative

Both sides rolled a '1' on the initiative roll and that means, unfortunately, that Axis has the initiative. (Axis had +1 on the die roll )

The question now is whether Axis will move first or not. (More pictures later but I have to do some errands first)

The Spanish Mech was placed in Bilbao. Allied Generals have apparently concluded that mechanized units works splendid in mountainous terrain.

And a picture of Bay of Biscay.

I would like to tell everyone before anyone gets confused that when Italy built synth plant game put wrong plant to production circle (the one that is placed to Africa). That one is going to be ignored/destroyed and another one is going to be built. This cannot be fixed using debug tool.

So Germany did not build pilot you see in AAR and sends 6 BP's to Italy. Italy did not build pilot and saved 2 BP's. Next turn Italy builds new plant. 6 + 2 BP's will be compensated to Germany and Italy. For example when pilot is killed we fix dice so that pilot is not killed.

I quit reading the Axis thread weeks ago but my fat finger on the screen of my smartphone occasionally dumps me on to page 1 of that thread.

Some of my most enjoyable WiF gaming was in the early 90s when each side had a dedicated strategy discussion on the mainframe computer system we all used at University. It was password protected though, much simpler. Sometimes I thought this is one way Harry intended the game to be played - the major action of the war on board the USS Augusta, at Casablanca, Yalta, etc. Much more so than the tactical nuts and bolts of which bomber should ground strike which hex.

J/A 40 Axis 1

No DoW or alignments.

Germany and Japan Land. Italy, Naval.

Italians fly a Nav to Biscay 1-box and a Ftr to West Med 2-box.

Italian subs sail to Biscay 1-box and St. Vincent 2-box. 4 CA's sail to East Med. I decline the intercept on the Allies behalf and the CA's stay in the 3-box.

3 areas available for naval combat.
