Hello All,
Just purchased the game and found that although the allied carrier planes have the class on the counter the Japanese planes don't. I didn't see anything in the forums. I have Windows 10 with the latest patches. I tried rebooting and even installed it on another machine on the same network (home).
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Well I am guessing that no one else has had this problem. It seems that the CW carrier ships also lack the carrier class for the planes. Has anyone heard of this problem?
Thanks

This is the first time it has been reported. I can not reproduce it.

Have you changed the colors for the units? There is a problem with red numbers on a red background for the Japanese in several places.

Wow! Very fast reply. I appreciate it for sure.
Well I was going to post a screenshot but it errors when I tried to attach it with a path that starts with "fakepath". I did go look at all the carrier planes for the US, CW and Japan and none of them have the carrier class number on them. I have not messed with any colors (I barely know how to move a land unit yet :))

Using carrier air units is an optional rule. But even if that rule is not in use, the carriers themselves should have the carrier classes on the unit depictions.

Attachments have to be gif/txt/jpg/zip files. I always use JPG for screenshots. When selecting which file to post, I just use the browse button, rather than risk typing in a file name.

Thanks Steve for the guidance. The carriers themselves have the class but the aircraft don't. From your comment about the optional rule I relaunched the game and started a new game (the previous launches were based on the quick start). I hoped if I turned on carrier air units I would see the class on the aircraft, but it was not so. I installed on a Windows 8 machine that I have and I have the same problem. I am going to uninstall and reinstall to see if that helps. If that does not is there a list of the aircraft and associated classes I can use as a work-around?
Thanks again.

Hi Coaltar are you able to show a screenshot of what this looks like? I imagine the lack of response is simply that this has not been seen before - I certainly haven't come across it and am intrigued to know what you are seeing.

Thanks

Screenshot is of Japanese only. The other nations are the same. Just to check, the carrier class is supposed to be in the top between the air attack and naval attack factors.
I reinstalled and still the same missing class.
Thanks

There is your a answer. These aren't carrier aircraft - the bottom three ARE Naval aircraft - but not carrier aircraft.

This screen shot shows land based aircraft exclusively. Use CTRL-U for the Units in Game form and browse through all the powers. Filter on the country and 'CVP's.

Thanks guys! I was confused because I didn't see any carrier air units available for the Japanese player on turn 1 of Guadalcanal. Is it a luck of the draw thing that I just didn't get any on the first couple of times I started the pre-setup Guadalcanal? It seemed odd to me that with all the carriers in Singapore there were no carrier air units, and likewise for the Bismark sea (I think it was Bismark, it was were the other carriers for the Japs are). Are there not supposed to be any carrier air units in Singapore?
Thanks for all the help y'all!

Hello Coaltar,

Welcome to MWIF and to the forum.

There are lots of information on the counters so I recommend using the help functions, or ask on the forum, while you learn the game.

The air counter have lots of information on them. Especially if you play with most of the air optional rules. The most important information is actually the aircraft silhouette that will tell you what type of aircraft it is. See picture below.

I suggest that you play your first Guadalcanal without the carrier plane optional rule.

Coaltar if you are not seeing this (i.e. the carrier units on the right then may be you haven't ticked the carrier planes optional

And this is what you should see when you try and set the Japanese up - lots of carrier planes

Thanks again all.
At first I didn't know you have to enable the optional rule to see the carrier air unit class indicator. I now know that the pre-setup Guadalcanal scenario doesn't have that optional rule enabled. I was confused because Vals were definitely used on Japanese carriers during WWII, but the pre-setup scenario for Guadalcanal doesn't have any shown (I now assume because that optional rule is not enabled in the pre-setup scenario) there weren't showing any class number. I did review what the counters look like and what is supposed to be where which is why I initially posted the question about the missing classes. What I didn't do was read further to find that the carriers actually create the air units when the carrier classes are not used. My bad. Thanks for all the help. I am really looking forward to playing against a live opponent when I get the rules mastered. I have been a gamer pretty much all my life and this appears to be in my top 5 along with Advanced Squad Leader. Thank you all, I am not worthy...

Any probs just ask - there is a lot of grognards on this forum. This is not exactly the most intuitive game in the world. All I can say is - stick with it, it IS worth the time invested
