History? Do you mean the need to have 5 M4's on one Tiger?:p Or the fact that all of you M4 boys always take an M4, but only if it is an Easy 8 or 76mm armed? Thats alot of confidence in your machine!;) :p

wouldn't catch the real M4 Drivers saying 5 to 1 was fine with them! :(

They screamed for a replacement to the M4 after tangling with the regular German models, let alone the Katz....but quantity was chosen over quality by the guys sitting behind tables far from the front.

The vehicle is important, but not nearly as important as the men and women behind them. Give me a super LoD .308 sniping rifle, ultra-tech camo, facepaint, any and all cool gear you want for the ultimate sniper... then give a Marine Scout-Sniper the cheapest .220 Swift rifle you can find at Wal-Mart and no clothes and tell us both to kill the same target. I bet you 1,000 to 1 odds the Marine will do it faster, better, cleaner, and quieter than I will, and he'll get out alive too.

The Nazi hierarchy made it difficult for good leaders to rise into leadership roles, and this surfaced more and more as the years passed on. Experience and Training can do a lot, but when you add Talent to the mix... nothing can compare to that.

Don't sweat it Huffy, anyone who does not have a favorite model in a tank line is either dead or a lair! :D
So what if the M4 was not the best tank in the world! and it was'nt by a long shot, I'm not afriad to admit it, but it was American and that fact alone counts more than anything else to me! ;)
Yep the Easy8 is still my model of choice - though its really a darn shame that we did not come up with the model that the IDF did - aka the Super Sherman. Now that would have been fun to drive across Europe! :p

What is a poor T-34 lover to do? :(

As Stalin or Lenin or one of those communist b******s said, "Quantity has a quality all it's own..."

I'll pit my T-34 battalion against a King Tiger platoon any day. If you loose four tanks and I loose 29, I still win. Watch your back. Heh, heh. :D

(Actually, I don't know offhand what the equivalent points in T-34's to a King Tiger platoon is, but you know what I mean...)

When I played through the Utah to Rhine campaign through for the first time last month, my core force consisted almost wholly of Shermans of various design's, and I actually liked them.

Sure, their armour and anti-tank capacity was a bit flimsy for tank-to-tank combat, and they were a bit sluggish on the move, but this made them a bit more challenging to use (not a bad thing when playing against AI), but this could be pretty much coped for by a good use of combined arms and some planning.

And one interesting thing about Shermans is that they are available in really a lot of different flavours - probably 20 or more I think.

Sure the German kitties are impressive on tank-to-tank fighting, but there is a lot of other good stuff on the game too. Russkies field many good ones - the plain T-34 is pretty well-designed as it is, KV's are great in early war years and IS-heavies are just plain murder on later war years. Brits have also some decent designs in the later war years.

And speaking of impressive German tanks - why nobody has mentioned E-100 aka Maus? Now that is a one mean tank even if it never saw battlefield in real life, I just tried usign one in a hypothetical scenario and was killing tanks and infantry in hordes (the crew had massive experience though). I guess in real life it would have suffered massively from the slow speed, and probably had a ton of mechanical breakdowns, though.
