Turn 18. Jul/Aug 1942. Allied #4. USN. Contested Sea Area, Mendocino. Potential Combat.

The USN chooses NOT to attempt to initiate combat in the Mendocino sea area.

1. Does the IJN wish to attempt to initiate combat in Mendocino? If so, what are your combat instructions? Where do aborts go?

Turn 18. Jul/Aug 1942. Allied #4. USN, US Army Air Corps, RN, RAF. Contested Sea Area, Bay of Biscay. Potential Combat.

The RAF added to more fighter units to the 3-box. The Western Allies choose NOT to attempt to initiate combat in the Bay of Biscay.

3. Do the axis wish to attempt to initiate combat in the Bay of Biscay? If so, what unit do you wish to use for the attempt. Do you wish to react with any additional air units. If so, where. What are your combat instructions? Where do aborts go?

Detail instructions depend on surprise points. Any aborts go to Truk. With enough surprise I may take a surface. In all cases I want to minimize damage (aborts ok) to the JP and focus on damaging the CP first, unless I have a chance to sink the CA.

Yes initiate. I don't believe there is anything else to fly out.
I will only engage the 3-box. Targeting the Amph's (one with HQ first). A-A target your fighters. Split for F-B will somewhat depend on surprise points and AA tables. Often it does not make sense to add one of the 1-pt FB to the bomb runs due to what it does to the AA columns.

Turn 18. Jul/Aug 1942. Allied #4. USSR, Asia.

Though Japan and the USSR are still neutral. This turn ends the 3-year neutrality pact between these two nations. I have an inkling that Japan is not interested in renewing the pact.

First note, have upgraded to 2.3.6

JA42 i5: Axis
Germany and Italy take land actions.
Japan takes a combined action.

The JP fly a NAV to the 4-box of the Arabian Sea and move a CP into the China Sea.

The Following Sea zone are open for potential interactions. The Japanese avoid combat in the three noted.
The Allies will not have an option to initiate combat in any of these.

Up first is the Arabian Sea.
Searches of 4/7 result in the NAV finding the Allies. They engage the 0-box only with 8 surprise points.
AA is ne and all 8 SP are used to increase the damage. The JP choose the first X on the convoys. I chose for the CW to put the D on the Spanish CA. Will you stay for round 2.
I did commit the sub for round 1 one. If you did not want it committed, I can redo the results so that it can stay in the sea area if you abort the others. If you stay, will you want the sub committed?

While waiting, how about these questions.
a) For the Coral Sea, there are no additional units from impulse 3 (except the transport has disembarked it's Corp to Rabaul). Will the instructions be the same as before.

b) In The Solomons, you can react out the fighter you just based in Kwajalein. Any changes to instructions for this area.

c) And Polynesia is exactly the same as last time, so again, I'd assume the instructions are the same.

Arabian Sea: Allies abort. CW units go to Victoria and the Spanish Cruiser goes to Port Louis. In the case, of the Spanish cruiser, since it's damaged I guess it really doesn't matter to which base it aborts.

a) Coral Sea: Same fighting instructions but with aborts going to Port Vila.

b) The Solomons: Fighter in Kwaj reacts to the 0-box. Allied fighters will target the Japanese bombers. Allies will continue to fight as long as they have fighters or the CP in the area. Aborts to bases to Kwaj, then when filled go to bases that have the best chance to remain in supply.

c) Polynesia:
Yes, instructions remain the same.

PS. My bedtime.

Coral Sea:
Rolls of 3/8 results in a naval air battle with all allied units. Sink the Transport.

Based on previous instructions, with the transport gone, the allies stay to the "bitter end". Here is the first of two images on round 1.

Coral Sea, round two the axis achieved the 1/10 split. The US made every damage control roll or it could have been worse. CP sunk, Arizona damaged and the zone cleared. One image here and one in the next post.

The Solomons, rnd 1 searches of 5/7 resulted in the axis finding and engaging only the 0-box with 6 surprise points. First images here show the Mexican fighter pilots performing well on the offensive and shooting down a bomber, but they did take there eye's off of the Japanese fighters and paid the cost.
