The night of August 1st sees MrKane's patrol boats start chewing up the newly released Russian Subs.

Battleship bombardments go in against the Russians for the 2nd day.

Most of the airplanes have retreated to a safer airfield. The return fire is vicious and at least one battleship loses it's radar mount.

The mutsu just gets pummeled... Most of the hits bounced but I saw at least 1 203mm do severe damage to the damage control parties.

August 2, 1945

First land combat in Russia. The recon unit in Tamsag does not stand up to an 50,000 troop army. The army will move south through the forest along the dirt road to the plains below.

Subs continue to struggle against escorts. This was an interesting combat. Did not realize the Takao had ASW capabilities as it is the one engaging the sub.

All four of that class - Atago, Takao, Maya and Chokai carry depth charges. Seems quite ridiculous that a big ship like a CA could try to maneuver onto a submarine contact, given the former's turning radius.

The Takao really needed more ASW ammo. Later in the day it takes a torpedo from another submarine. Subsequently on August 4, 1945 she takes another 4 torpedo's and sinking sounds are heard.

Here is a shot of a particularly well coordinated Japanese strike going in.

I get a lucky surprise attack with my night bombing groups. MrKane was not likely expecting anything as I rarely use 4EB for naval attack but I thought I would give it a go.

Fortunately the bombers took out the entire AKE force stationed near Russia.

Here is an example of one of many bombings.

Air attacks fly against armor that is surging forward ahead of the main attack. In this case self propelled assault guns. Mostly secondary vehicles being destroyed but it created a large amount of disruption to those units.

Hailar falls on August 5, 1945

By this time it has become apparent that MrKane has decided to lightly garrison the perimeter of Manchuko and put the majority of his troops at Harbin and other industrial centers.

This prompts a change of plan for some units.

You should be able to take Arshaan fort and have another good route south.

The Russians drop an airborne unit into Titshar and get a 1-2 result despite the much larger unit stationed in the base.

Night bombardments go in on the coast at Port Arthur, Antung and Keijo. Several destroyers hit mines at Keijo and south at Moppo when those destroyers tried to raid Fusan.

What makes MrKane tough to play against for me is that he only needs somewhere between 100 & 200 fighters and he can pierce my CAP typically.

Here is a picture of a strike with only 4 bombers and his fighters. If I put up high CAP he will go low of course. No damage but still a heart stopper every time ;]

MrKane is bombing targets of opportunity in Russia, usually advance armor groups. He has had minor effect on movement and readiness.

The recon at Anshan was reporting low troop levels and numbers. So I decided to try to drop my paratroops here For some reason they never dropped which was a good thing. Here is a major bombardment by air. It's results were disappointing.

Instead of the 2 units I thought were there it turns out it was 2 divisons plus a whole lot more.

A few turns ago I had a nice catch of ships at Fusan that were not CAP'd. This turn it goes the other way with me forgetting to turn off the attack and not providing escorts.

I would be mad at myself but this happens regularly :/

Takao finally falls after massive bombardments by air and sea and ground attacks to reduce lvl 6 forts to 0. It also took quite a bit of diverted armor assets to expedite the process.
