Welcome to the forums Model.

You would be best off PMing one of the forum mods about why Pelton was banned.

Your strategy assessment is accurate. Pelton consistently does his calculations on the end game based on # of hexes to Berlin.

Using the Razing the Reich II game is not a good means of assessing game balance as even Michael, who is an outstanding
WiTE player admitted in the AAR: "I realized too late that this Manstein (Sean, and a relative novice) was not the same Manstein (a crusty vet) I knew from the early days."

10 september 1942. Turn : 65

Not much this turn except the ennemy is approching Kazan. Unfortunately, i have not enough troops to seriously defend this town, and some panzers are preparing in the back for another major push,so i guess the town is lost. I already evacuated all industries from here.

As requested :

You probably already know this, but the event logs are saved on your computer. I'd be curious what your last week's manpower numbers look like. You're dead for all practical purposes, but play on by all means.

Classical turn. The ennemy reached the far east of the map !!!

And i retreated in good order around Kazan.

In the south, port are sieged. I need to keep the one with the red dot because i moved tons of industries here. lol.
I do not think i lost some industries in 1942, let's not start.

The whole front is weird. Will i keep moscow the entire war ? lol

I hope to return above 7M men soon;

About the debate with victory points and if i can still win. For me as long as i hold moscow, i have no reason to surrender.

+1000 for the fighting spirit and the AAR.
However, I do not unterstand why P is unable to cut at least your railways to Moscow off with two suicide units.

24 september 1942. Turn 67

One month before the rain !! In the caucasus, some moutains units go trekking. But i have moutain units too and he will not pass.

Partisans are working hard, and i think they lack some publicity. This turn for example, the entire eastern german front is probably cut from supply.

And now the event of the turn. The probably last german offensive of 1942 before the rain.
It looks like the elite german panzer force crossed the large river, and went .. into woods and Swamps.

The ennemy cut one of the railroad to moscow. But i still have the north path and this path is not threathened.

As the ground is quite hostile to panzers, and it is in the middle of most of my elite troops, and only one month before the rain, i decided to jump on it with all i have !!!
The battle for Gorky have begun !!!

Turn 68 : First october 1942 !!

Weather forecast is mud for deep Russia. But i'am not sûre i can rely on this prediction. It would be good news.

The battle of Gorky started. Things can move quickly in only turn and surprise any general.

Let's see this turn.

Beginning of last turn :

Same area at the end of last turn after my move :
One of the best german armored unit is encercled by strong troops and especially 3 tank corps.

Unfortunately, it was not enough, and the german managed to break the encerclement. But barely.

Still quite a success to my counter offensive. Now the germans are heavily contested in the area.

And the rain is coming.

I have a new toy !!!

Artillery divisions have a range of 2 hex and are designed to help breaking heavily entranched german positions. I love the concept and i have some spare armements points.

I'am planning to built 12 ASAP to be ready for 1943. In december, i will also built rocket launcher division.

Turn 69 : 08 October 1942

The meteo mages were right !!! Rain season is upon us !!!

It is quite funny as mud make supply line difficult. And last turn i managed to infiltrate an infantry division inside the german spearhead near Gorky, creating a long supply line.

As a consequence, the ennemy slowly retreat.

In the south, it was still clear weather, and walter model have been appointed to take the last city of the caspian sea. It will be quite a challenge.

Others parts of the front are quiet. Some mountain troops in the caucasus as usual. Grozny have been taken, but this town was on the wrong side of the caucasus.

Turn 70 : 15 October 1942

Mud season confirmed !!!

The ennemy is slowly retreating near gorky.

Time for a little bilan of the year. Situation looks stabilized. Of course my priority this year is to be sûre that the situation stay stabilized. I have also to finish the training of my returned divisions from spring 1942 disaster.

Second thing interesting :

So my army is lacking around 800K men to be full TOE.

Currently, the manpower is my main concern. I have spare armements.

I have 70K new men, and 40K are returning from hospital, each turn. I think because of all the ground i lost this year, i lost around 25% of my manpower production from the start of 1942, so probably around 20K each turn.
Not critical, but annoying.

It is funny how, for example, my new artillery divisions have quickly all the guns, but not the men.

Second concern, i used a lots of tank brigades this year, as it was a unit my opponent did not bother encercled, so a lots of brigades battle to death to slow the german advance. But i just noticed that tank brigades use a lot of trucks, so it is possible that i lost too much truck this year. I have no more spare trucks left to fully supply my troops.

Some strategic measure until the end of the year :
- Stop creating sapper regiments (too much manpower usage), but return the existing one in army to stavka.
- Stop creating new rifles corps until the AP price discount in 1943.
- Create tons of new tanks supports units to be used in armies and corps, especially tanks bataillon as they upgrade soon to tanks regiments.
- go on creating artillery divisions. (But they still need 9000 men which is annoying).

Yes, you're going to make a bad supply situation worse by building a host of tank support units. The winter of 1942-43 is often the worst for the Soviet truck inventory. What CV you gain with the tanks you'll just as likely lose with under supplied infantry.

I need something very, outrageously expensive but with few men and trucks.

As a side note, i know that the legend of endless soviet hordes is a legend coming from bitter old german generals, but i would have expected more problem to give weapons to my men than to find men to fight for me....

Cavalry xxx - tho' they use more trucks in Feb'43 when they end up with 150 or so tanks each. Don't give up on creating sapper regts. You will need hundreds to have 3 in each inf xxx, and they need to train for months to become useful: as do all new units. Your weekly manpower replacements should be comfortably exceeding your losses and unit upgrades in '43 don't use up many men other than when you convert 2 rifle xx and 1 rifle x to make a xxx.

Thanks for the info.
I already have 272 sappers regiments. But a good part of them are in army HQ. I think it is time to return everyone to stavka with the automatic system for complete reallocation.

Turn 71: 22 October 1942.

The rain prevent large scale movement, but not the ennemy to go hiking though the caucasus.
I'am a hiker myself IRL and with rain, mountain and equipment, condition are probably terrible.

And a last a view of the town of guriev. Why on earth did i move all these industries here. Did i was drunk or something ?
I have to defend it to the death. (Fortunately, it is difficult to supply a german offensive here).

29 October 1942 : Turn 72

Nothing new happened this turn under the rain, so let's look at my new cute railroad construction units, ready to built railroad to support my large offensives. (Future. Long future).

Turn 73 : 05 november 1942

Nothing special this turn, but next turn, the rain is other and time for snow !!!

WEATHER

Europe Zone: Mud (Forecast: Snow)
South Soviet Zone: Mud (Forecast: Snow)
Central Soviet Zone: Mud (Forecast: Snow)
North Soviet Zone: Mud (Forecast: Snow)

I'am not sûre if my opponent will restarted its offensive around Gorky or not. I will see.

I returned all support units to stavka using the automated system, but it did not worked for the sappers regiments. I do not know why, but it is a shame as it was my main goal. If i have to do it manually it will cost around 200PP.

So my army have zero support units at the moment, as i'am waiting to see if sappers regiments move or not. Great

Other points of concern, i may have a supply crisis soon :

AMMUNITION AND SUPPLY USAGE

6022 tons of SUPPLIES consumed last week by units building forts (100% construction level)
1555 tons of SUPPLIES consumed last week by cities building forts (100% construction level)
Units want 41510 tons of SUPPLIES, 85349 tons are available (205%)
Units want 2852 tons of FUEL, 1842001 tons are available (64586%)
5357 tons of SUPPLIES converted to ammo
4464 tons of ammo delivered to front line units
36227 tons of SUPPLIES required by units for consumption
27151 tons of SUPPLIES consumed by units
495 tons of ARMAMENTS consumed by ground element exports and conversions
21 tons of ARMAMENTS gained by ground element conversions
4119 tons of ARMAMENTS gained by ground element scrapping and decomposition
1742 tons of ARMAMENTS consumed by predictive ground element building
56640 tons of ARMAMENTS consumed by replacements
2722 tons of ARMAMENTS consumed by ammo production
In total, expended 57459 tons of ARMAMENTS

78650 tons of SUPPLIES produced in 160 heavy industry centers (78650 available)
2750 SUPPLIES not produced, because of RESOURCE shortages
78650 tons of RESOURCES consumed by SUPPLY production

88745 ARMAMENTS produced in 298 armaments factories (100% production level, 88745 available)
1280 ARMAMENTS not produced, because of SUPPLY shortages
17749 tons of SUPPLIES consumed by ARMAMENTS production

494 VEHICLES produced in 119 vehicle factories (100% production level, 494 available)
6 VEHICLES not produced, because of SUPPLY shortages
2470 tons of SUPPLIES consumed by VEHICLE production

If they are assigned to corps ground units they won't move out. If they are assigned to Army HQ, there's no reason that they shouldn't move as long as army support level = 0.

Turn 74 : 12 november 1942

Gentle snow over the entire Russia. And it is a great day today, a glorious victory for the soviet union

German troops ran away from their plan to attack Gorky and returned to defensive position. Gorky was essential for the defense of moscow, and so once again, moscow is saved !!!

It would be a great moment for a soviet attack, but my army is really tired and with supplies issues. No reserves are ready and i have a lot of reorganisation to perform.
First is to remove my best troops from the front and try to find something to replace them.

Most of the fighting of the turn occured in the caucasus, where the grey applied a high pressure.

A first line of defense have been breached.

And in the center of the mountain, heavy fighting occured !! I may have underestimated the ability to ennemy troops to fight with a very long supply line. The railroad is nearly cut, i'am not sûre to be able to hold it.

Fortunately, when you fight out of supply, troops are not really in fightig mood ...

New inmates ready to serve in working camps !!

I have a fortified zone with level 4 fort in baku, but no corps yet
All town leading to baku are also heavily fortified.

I hope i will be able to wait to buy corps in 1943 at discount price.

I do not understand that Pelton is not able to pull enough forces together to do a last major push to cut of this Moscow Salient. I hope he can't do this of course so this AAR continues.
What things can onde do to save supplies? Cut down fort building?
