He's a long way from home with the fragile IJN forces. Could be interesting to get around the edges and aim for tankers and SCTF that support the KB before taking the CVs on again.

Yikes! What a bloodbath!
He sank a lot of ships and achieved his bombardment objective, but the experienced KB air groups are decimated and that has long term implications for him. I make the battles a little in the Allies' favour.

I find it a little hard to believe that the Kumano TF could engage in the various combats and still have enough ammo for an effecctive bombardment. (But perhaps there's FOW mis-identifying the ships?)

His air groups for the KB were decimated and are hard to train back up. He also lost 3 CVLs to your one CV for in strict numbers t was a draw there. His two heavy CVs seemed to be lightly or undamaged and if you only have the Enterprise in the area, it might be a good idea to withdraw and await the arrival of other carriers. The only way this will turn into a victory for him is he is prepared to follow up this bombardment in the next 3-5 days with an invasion. You will not be ready to rebuild and recoup all the loses on the airstrip and among the bombarded units. If he can combined the entire KB he can protect an invasion but lacking that you may have delayed or stpoped his plans in this area.

I have available here: Enterprise, Hornet(need 6 day for repairs), Lexington(in 2 days) and one RN carrier(in 3-5 days). So, I am not worry about landing air cover any more.

Throw in the Mishin too. This was a clear loss for the IJN. Rjujo is a 48 AC CVL ... IJN biggest. Tactically and strategically for the USN, a huge victory. Any time you can trade CV's at better than 1:2, it is a victory ... here is it was 140 vs 90 AC in CV capacity ... monster victory for the USN ...

Not counting the floatplane carrier, the Ryujo has the biggest CVL airgroup it is also the most vulnerable. I agree with your assessment unless he lands and takes Tahiti, destroying the units present. Hence the mentioning of him turning it into a victory, if he does not then the Japanese will be the clear loser in this series of naval engagements.

Once again the old wisdom applies:

"Never get into a land war in Asia". Your opponent was doing well until he overextended there.

I will not agree with this statement. His problem is rather lack experience to play against human. He was constantly push forward without protecting his flanks. However I have noticed he already learn this lesson and he is match better right now.

Fail of NZ invasion. Well it seems he knew about my invasion, his carriers where waiting, airfields full of planes and a lot of sub where waiting too.

I was fallow by horde of subs from day one. British light carrier was sunk by sub 2 days before landing, next day huge air strike damage 2 British BB and sunk 1 AP. At this point I have already understand that I will not be able to support, by navy and air, my marines on ground, so I have turn fleet back. My carriers were spot by several torpedo bombers 2 days later. My conclusion was that his fleet is just out of range of my planes and it must be at north on me. As result I decided send fleet north to save transports. Her are results of this move:

2 more CV's gone for IJ ... he is in bad shape ...

he let his CV get out from LBA protection and he had no BB's with his CV's to soak up bomb hits ... ouch.

Nice comeback! You got lucky with the Ammo Storage Explosion on Soryu and two Fuel Storage Explosions on Hiryu, but your boldness made it possible. Well done!
I agree with keeping Lexington in the battle and trying to continue the battle.

His BB were 2 hex east from Carriers position. Next turn he send them against my carriers, however I have foreseen this move and my forces moved north with way-point east of his battleships. However bad weather did not allow me to send planes against them :(.

Victory !!!

Battle of Narbada River has came to end. Most of 21st Army units are gone, other are retreating south.
Those units: 2nd Raiding Regiment, Yokosuka 3rd SNLF, 1st Raiding Regiment, 1st Yokosuka 1st SNLF, 38th Division, 5th Amphibious Brigade are crossing Narbada river right now. If my 3 weak Indian Division will hold position on other south blank of river they will be cut off too.
16th IJA Division is encircled by 2nd NZ Div on west side of the river and are falling apart fast. My Armoured units are attacking Ranch far into south.

Here is list of IJA destroyed units:
- Guards Tank Division
- 6th Guards Division
- 4th Guards Division
- 1st Art.Mortar Regiment
- 21st Army HQ
- 148th Infantry Regiment
- 41st Infantry Regiment
- 3rd Indpt SNLF Coy
- 4th Division
- 4th Ind.Mixed Regiment

Additionally Japan has lot over 600-700 planes for cost of 60-100 allies planes.

So interesting. He doesn't look good in the South with those damaged CVs burning out off the coast of NZ. Even with the losses, you've taken the hits, countered, and turned the tide on both the sea and on land.

Now will he run out of steam and give up, demoralised, or fight on to turn this into an epic match?

He was very aggressive in his moments till now, now this behaving works against him. India disaster for him was mostly provoke by his aggressive advance using shock attack without carrying about flanks. If he continue playing this way game will be short. Just by counting his LCUs in India and on NZ I am sure that Japan is completely undefended.

India Situation 24th Sep - 27th Oct 1942

XXI Indian Corp has captured Surat and it is advancing towards Bombay by coast line.

IV Indian Corp is holding positions.

III Indian Corp has forced to surrender IJA 16th Division and it is moving against Japanese garrison in Nagpur.

XXIV Indian Corp has shattered Japanese 2nd Tank Division and 18th Inf. Division in Benares and next managed to cut off 2nd IJA Army(18th Div, 21st Div, 7th Div, 2nd Tank Div, 5th Grd Div, 6th SNLF, 2nd SNLF and army HQ) in Patana. The 2nd Army is suffering huge loses in this city right now and it seems to me that it will be annihilated in less than week.

If I manage to accomplice this goal it will be huge allies victory. It will mean complete destructions of 2 Japanese Armies, including 10 divisions(2 tank div) and several battalion size units.

Great job

I seriously doubt this game will last even to mid 43. You have to take risks as Japan in 42 but you can't afford to lose critical assets or be decisively engaged on the ground (and lose) if you want to be a serious competitor in 44.

Preserving assets, stockpiling critical resources and building up the scoreboard is the necessary goal criteria for the Empire in 42. Trying to win decisive victories at all costs is the pathway to ruin. Losing 10 divisions in 42 against predominately Indian/ Commonwealth forces!

24th Sep - 28th Oct 1942

India:

Japan navy has intercepted big convoy near Karachi on 25th Oct. I have lost 19 xAP in this raid and 70 planes. However combined British & Chinese and Dutch air forces managed to damage Junyo, 2 BB and sunk 2 CL in revenge. He lost over 60 planes too. The bright side is that all transports were empty.

South Pacific:

After being forced to cancel landing at New Zeeland I have changed my approach. Now allies are aiming to cut off NZ by taking Samoa Islands, Fuji and New Caledonia. As result of this "new grand strategy" Americal Division has captured Pago Pago island on 26th Oct. Invasion was protected by 3 carriers (2 USN, 1 RN). My opponent this time did not show up, what was easy to predict, knowing that He has just one carrier left in South Pacific.

China:

Total collapse of defence due complete lack of supplies. My opponent has already break into central plains and I do not see any way to salvage situation.

Air war:
Japanese forces are active in China and in India. China they are operating without resistance. India is different story, Japan air forces are still strong and are very active there, however this activity is linked with heavy losses. He is sending hundreds of planes there, but now we are in situation when even US P-40 are deadly thread to his fighter. I looks like he has problem with training enough good quality pilots to replace losses. Other side of story is that he is still using Ki-43c and A6M2 as main fighters. Hi is operating just single Sentai with Ki-44-IIa. This situation allows my 4e to operate mostly without over most of central India.

Sorry to say, but I think your game may end soon. Your opponent is running out of IJN ships and you are going to have no obstacles in a few months game time.

Considering your position elsewhere the importance in China is in keeping some footholds that can later be expanded. Especially the mountains. Even without supply you might hold there for many months.

Yes, you are probably right. However I still believe in His ability resist my attacks. I have taken a lot of beating in early campaigning as I am aggressive player too. Whole 24th US Division was lost on Suva, 1/3 allied fleet was sunk either there.

Yes, most of his ships are damaged, but I have confirmation of sunk only for Akagi & Kaga. I hope he will recovery it is so difficult to find Japan opponent who will not break easily. And he is doing quit well, current VP balance is 17K:40K. Not bad for IJA Player.
