The Germans have the better of air combat above the attack in S Russia, but lose a good FW190.

The Stukas get through.

The Allies throw everything they have in support against von Leeb's blitz in W France. A massive aerial combat.

The only German attack in Russia is in the south in the Voronezh sector. Panzers break through the Soviet lines.

AXIS #8 SEP/OCT 42

Allied attention was focused on the W France bridgehead with combined moves for USA and CW. The Communists in Russia and China try to consolidate their lines. No attacks.

Germany and Japan land, Italy combined.

Italian naval searches fail in N Atlantic (subs, 9&5) and the Red Sea (5&9).

But the Allies find in W Med (9&4) on the Italian search. The Vildebeest decides to attack the Italian convoy with the surprise points. The Greek ships (a couple of cruisers and 10 valuable cps in the 0 box) can abort next round so needn't be risked.

The Vildebeest spends most of the surprise points weakening Italian fighter escorts.

Though it aborted the fighters, the Vildebeest was shot down. The pilot survived.

Sorry about that Keith. There's another seaworthy plane in Gib, and the Greek ships abort there at the start of R2.

Rundstedt launches two attacks in the Don-Khoper sector.

Though there are no organised Soviet planes in the area, the Luftwaffe avoid AAA batteries and use air support in only one.

Italian Alcione bombers support an assault on Athens.

Limited CW ground moves allowed Italian forces to edge past the Greek mountain redoubt.

Rundstedt chooses an assault to give the best chance of destroying the useful Soviet artillery.

Missed the screenshot here sorry. Roll was 19.

Antonescu provided a useful rail head to reinforce Rommel's campaign in the Caucasus.

As the Romanian HQ is railed back to the siege of Sevastopol Rommel reorganises his new units, hoping for further impulses.

Turn continues on a 10. Weather 5, fine everywhere bar rain in N Monsoon and the Arctic.

ALLIED #9 SEP/OCT 42

Audacious low-odds blitz in France shatters three German units (including Von Leeb's HQ, heavy artillery, and an elite MOT ...) but destroys an American Armoured Corps. The Americans do not advance.

CW/USSR/China appeared to pass. Turn ends.

Reinforcements for Nov/Dec 42 include the Germans just shattered by the USA.

Still-neutral Vichy France does what the Third Republic would never do and names a new battleship "Napoleon."

Mexico has aligned against the Axis. The Sevastopol and Athens militias can't be placed.

Axis has conquered Greece, the Samoas, and Kenya. Though Baku is still in Soviet hands, they can't rail out the oil. Only 1 oil resource is now available to USSR.
