finished my turn, and the Maya shows up to bolster the Borneo forces.

Heading back to port to replenish depth charges, patrol my bases, and gather the troops to land at Palembang. Hopefully I survive the sub infestation and still flying in troops to Palembang and targeted air strikes.

Manchuko is seeing a rather large troop movement to counter those 3000 vehicles north of Tsitsihar.

Hunting the Allied supply line...

This task force is set to Low Threat....the Captain is wise enough to see that the cargo ships represent no threat and they stick around to sink them all. If they had run into the Prince of Wales, one would hope they launch torpedoes and flee.

Manchuko

Soviets on the move, bombing heavily...and avoiding detection, what will tomorrow bring? Perhaps opportunity.

Plus almost no plane reinforcements too.

Hey, Dirtnap, is that a new icon for you or is my memory that bad?

Hey Lowpe, I'm been reading this for a week or so. Up to page 53 so I have a ways to go yet. Concerning Magwe, ANY oil I can get out of there is a plus. It's doomed to destruction.

If I was in this situation, I'd probably be in a fetal position.

Mike, I hate to tell you it happens to 95% of JFBs (well, sooner or later)...and in truth, I am coming off a spectacular game with Joc where I invaded Hollywood and took Alaska. Of course, that one was scenario 2 insanity.

Dealing with the Soviets in 1945 is one thing, 1942 is a totally different animal.

Now that I see it on a real monitor...yeah, it is familiar. But, icons and rules are slipping by....down the memory hole only to be remembered after they bite back.

If you have any SST available, time to send them (in single sub TF size) to all those Australian coast bases which start off with lacing an AV equipped garrison.  Particularly those bases with any industry present.  With all the frontloading your opponent has done, it is quite likely he has not bothered to properly garrison these Australian bases.  Don't overlook India either although the coastal candidates are fewer there.

Time to also paradrop fragments onto those undefended SRA bases too.  None of this can be criticised as being gamey, not in the context of Soviet captured bases being turned over to American control.

SST cannot carry IJA troops...or at least I have never been able to figure out how to get them to.

I started invading a lot of bases with these 12 point AV IJA shipping COY -- just got about 6 into the SRA. Took Kudat yesterday.

Wake CD gun unit arrived yesterday...bolstering that little islands defense. I need to garrison it right quick I fear. Only a JNAF ENG unit there now keeping the big guns from being lonely.

Must thank you once again for your excellent Ship Repair Opus! Can't tell you how many times I have read and reread that masterpiece.

Hmm, been a while since I looked at the composition of a Japanese SST.

1. Check to see if they have both a "troop" and "cargo" carrying capacity.

2. Only para (IIRC commando type = type #19 too) type LCU (= type #13) can be carried in "combat" mode. All other LCU types must be in a different mode. "Move" mode works best.

There should be no difference between Japanese and Allied SST deployment. Certainly the Allied SST have both troop and cargo capacity. If the Japanese only have cargo capacity that would limit you as most devices with AV are classified as "troop". However tanks are classified as "cargo". So then it would become a question of finding a tank whose load cost fits within the cargo size capacity of the SST.

Standard scenario IJN SST's do not have Troops capacity.

I have, in the past, loaded vehicles on the American SSTs... but they took a full day to unload.

Soviets spreading out...they all can't have AA present.

Those troops retreated in good order, but were swept by Migs and bombed into the stone ages for 3 days. There wasn't much left of them for the Tanks to destroy.

Palembang still holds, no attacks yet, but another 4-6 units are only one hex away and one of those units is expected to be a full American division.

I am sending in the troop convoy...it will get really bloody here in the next few days.

Allied beasts continue working hard...Palembang of course is heavily bombed, but here the Allies go for the repair yards or ports at Saigon.

Pulling this squadron of 36 Claudes out, finally. Their last mission was escorting the Kate strike on a cargo ship in the Malacca straits. I will miss having a squadron of 36 Claudes.

I would have preferred pulling them out 60 days ago for the PP.

Ok, I thought better of that, and put in a group of fresh replacement pilots and will let them train 100%, 0 range, 10K alt, for the next few days -- till the 7th when I will withdraw them.

BTW, that is a nice starting group of A2A for raw replacements. I suspect within a year it will be down to 20 or less.

Has the added benefit of showing the Allies a rather large bump in fighters present at Saigon.

A look at Saigon's air defenses.

If you really want to really change the pace of the war...simply let Japan adopt a 40mm bofors instead of the 25 mm gun they went with. The T05 AA gun in late 45 they get is an absolute beast.

Saigon

The flak report on the base screen never seems to work well, I wish I could figure out what it does count.

That size 10 shipyard is great for repairing destroyers and subs. Some naval support add to its effectiveness. One AS is here now, and I plan on getting a few AG, and about 10 AD's here in the next few days.

An AR, AG, AD at Cam Ranh Bay round out a forward repair facility. Well, the AR hasn't made it here, yet, it is at Puerto Princesa with 10 AD fixing a destroyer. But will leave in 10 days.

I plan on converting every possible ship to ARs. I get to start next month.

Also from the picture, you can see I am short aviation supply. That is true for the entire Empire. I have an incredible strain here. I have 5 Air Divisions but are all spoken for. The 25th Air Flotilla is on her way though.

The runways will go to at least 8 for double the support. I have had to send some ground troops, the 41st Guard Btln to secure Cam Ranh Bay....
