LOL, this made me laugh so hard this morning. Thank you Sparley since I feel that way a great many times myself. Then you find yourself back in the ring for another round :)

OK, T9 done. This turn's theme: "Make Sparkles fight for it!"

North - the nice PG4 pocket. He can easily break it but some reprieve for the 7th Army defending Sviritsa and Zhukov in Leningrad

Centre - no retreat says Stalin, using my carpet in some nice defensive terrain. I fully expect to have to retreat next turn. Sparkles might have a HQ BU near Bryansk, I think I prepared for that well enough

South - ditto, no retreat. Well not from the Dnepr near D-town at least. He'll has to broaden the bridgehead first. To my surprise I saw a Rumanian division in that bridgehead, wow! A bit further to the west along the Dnepr retreated to the next minor river. Odessa will probably fall this turn. I assume they won't surrender but just flee via the sea?

Evil evil Russian Bear rattling its cage. It wants to get out but knows to be patient. Meditating for the Bear might be a good idea too.

Same here mate, learning lots. The Bear is certainly a different animal than the Wolf, haha.

I have to say I still prefer the Wolf as it takes me a LOT longer to do a Soviet turn! A good thrill though to try and walk that tight rope. Dance with fire and all that. Germans it's more the thrill of the conquest. Anyway, loving it.

So how many HQ BUs have you done so far?

This turn I relaxed massively with my air war as I have been running my airframes and pilots ragged the previous two turns for the over 900 airplane kills so only 210 this turn. I still tried to prioritise as many IL-4s as I could

In AGC I focused on trapping as many units as possible for next turn
I tried to overwhelm the defenecs and break it open instead of just fighting wherever I might possibly win a battle and lose more often than not anyways

In AGS I hammerered through one point and went around one hex in hopes of catching some divisions next turn
Near D-town I reshuffled my units and set myself up for either a breakthrough or pushing as quick as possible once he retreats

In the north I threw a tantrum worthy of Hitler, decided I had enough of the farce and nuked Manstein and Zhukov leaving it looking like this as I hand my turn over

8-10 HQ BUs?! How is your supply situation then? Every BU reduces supply for ALL units by a couple % I thought. So 8-10 would be like 20% reduction. That would be noticable. Is it?

T9 done. Leningrad well and truly sealed now so slowly retreating to outside the Finnish no movement line. Let's see how long Leningrad holds out. What a spectacular failure on my part that front! Ah well, panzers will be too late to join the battle of Moscow.

There the Reds retreated too and changed tactic back to big stacks at some 4 hexes distance, too far to attack in force let alone break through. So controlling AGC's advance. 6 divs were pocketed as result of my carpet tactic too close to the Krauts last turn. It'll be T11-12 before they arrive at the gates of Fortress Moscow.

In the south the Ruskies pulled back a couple hexes too, not to be exposed to encirclements. I forgot the screenies again but maybe Sparkles can post his start of turn snaps. Oh and another successful attack from D-town, this time hitting the Rumanian PzDiv. Haven't been focusing on it but wins are racking up nicely. 5 wins needed for Guard status, wasn't it? And > 50 Exp and Morale? And what then, how to convert to Guards? All totally new to me. Anything special for Cavalry needing wins for something?

Oh crap the screenshots!
I completely forget I was having some issues with airframes so was getting help with that and they are the only screenshots I have

Turns out my fighter airbases in the south had no fuel so when I was sending bombing raids the fighters decided to stay at home so a nice buttload of level bombers were taken down because of it

Yes once you get 5 victories there is a chance you get guards

I have started to shuffle out 4th PzG from the north in place of infantry but depending on what happens not all the corps may reach in time to help at Moscow

Also did not know that Sourjarvi near the Finns was a supply source so yet another turn for Leningrad

Oh wow really!?
Each HQBU I do lessens the amount of supply I get indefinitely?
I did not know that and that is huge information..... Darn

My infantry are starting to strain with slight shortages in some places now yes maybe that is why?

HQ BUs do not reduce the supply of all units directly. Only indirectly if they cost so much trucks that you fall below 100% of the motor pool requirement.

Righto, after a short break we resume my first ever Soviet play. A surprise again this T12 as the command cap of armies went from 24 to 21, so I had to redistribute some divs. And in the south I needed a better commander so Vatutin took over command of 38th Army between D-town and Kharkov.

First screenie - Leningrad... cactus
