INVADED
Amphibious TF 88 unloading at Goodenough Island
Bataan, Cagayan, Pontianak, Singapore, Changsha, Kweilin, Rangoon are also invested.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP
Guiuan is occupied by the Japanese
Japanese forces CAPTURE Goodenough Island !!!

Overall
• KB1 located 4 hexes south of Rabaul.

• KB2 & KB3 now 2 hexes west of Hong Kong.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii
• A sub found 14 hexes NE Pearl Harbor, obviously trying to better interdict convoy lanes. Convoy lanes Adjusted.

• Subs still off West Coast, especially close in to San Francisco. A convoy of xAK's sailed into San Francisco along the coast without incident and without escort.

• IJN use of aircraft in this area.
quote:

TF 55 sights Japanese Torpedo Bomber at 218,70 near San Francisco
TF 203 observes Japanese Float Plane at 218,70 near San Francisco
TF 55 snooped by Japanese Torpedo Bomber at 218,70 near San Francisco
DD Clark followed by Japanese Torpedo Bomber at 217,70 near San Francisco
TF 359 sights Japanese Aircraft at 216,70 near San Francisco
TF 363 observes E14Y1 Glen at 218,70 near San Francisco
TF 280 snooped by Japanese Recon at 217,72 near San Francisco
TF 53 observes Japanese Float Plane at 191,101 near Lahaina

That last item was the sub found searching for the convoy lane to Hawaii.

Pacific
• Sub off of Suva.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain
• KB1 located 4 hexes south of Rabaul, heading NE. A sub encountered a convoy south of Truk. Unclear how this informs any of last turn's speculation.

• An IJN cruiser TF is 1 hex SW of Port Moresby. Obviously the Empire has full faith in the limited Zero CAP available from PM. And in torpedo bombers from Rabaul.

Philippines
• Fortifications in Bataan still building.

DEI, Dutch new Guinea, Borneo, Malaya
• Singapore fortifications still at 2 + 73% with leftover damage after today's raids.

• No enemy convoys seen today.

China
• If memory is serving me correctly, the Empire has drawn down their forces on the two front door routes to Sian.

Kokoda, Bataan, Cagayan, Pontianak, Singapore, Changsha, Kweilin are also invested.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP
Lihir is occupied by the Japanese
Japanese forces CAPTURE Rangoon !!!

Overall
• Lost sighting of KB1. KB2 & KB3 in same position.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii
• Our convoy which slipped up the coast past enemy subs must have been seen by their aircraft because today there is a sub in the coastal route 2 hexes north of San Luis Obispo.

Pacific
• Logistics movements proceeding quietly.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain
• Lost sighting of KB1 and presume it headed northeast either to replenish or rendezvous with the next invasion force.

• The assigned AVD's are 3 days from Aoba Island and 6 days from Reef Islands. The PBY flights will be transferred to coincide with the AVD's arrivals.

Philippines
• Now 3 Imperial units at Bataan.

DEI, Dutch new Guinea, Borneo, Malaya
• Singapore base badly damaged so no fort building unless we get a few good days.

• Pontianak held again!
quote:

• A cruiser group, although it scouts as having a battleship too, is just south of Balikpapan and was attacked by our air groups within range for minimal effect.

139WH-3: 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
CL Kiso

Aircraft Attacking:
3 x 139WH-3 bombing from 3000 feet
Naval Attack: 3 x 300 kg SAP Bomb

The question is: do we send forth our cruiser TF's at Soerabaja to intercept? For now we are moving out the Walrus II's and in with more 139WH-3's (300 kg SAP bombs).

China
• KB2 & KB3 are lobbing Zero sweeps at Kweilin. We have no aircraft there.

• In case I did not mention it before, that Imperial unit making the end run around the Ankang road is an infantry regiment.

• 2 Imperial units are in Kweilin. There are 3 more just SW: at least 1 is moving to cut the road between Kweilin and Liuchow; at least 1 is moving into Liuchow.

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina
• Rangoon falls.

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

Assaulting units:
33rd Division
112th Infantry Regiment

Defending units:
12th Burma Rifles Battalion
Rangoon BAF Battalion
4th Burma Rifles Battalion

That regiment was not scouted before this battle and is another unwelcome element in Burma. Imperials are heading after our other units racing north. Our two surviving defenders of Rangoon will head back toward Rangoon just in case the Empire sends both units north.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia
• Subs on station.

Complete combat report attached.

thank you for the China posting, I want to take a closer look at lunch tomorrow and may have a question or two.
I have been sloppy again in China, allowing one and possibly two solid formations to be out maneuvered. I also
have a loose IJA tank Rgt running amok way up north. As we are close together on the timeline, your situation
looks to be my future, it's very interesting to watch.

I am following both witpqs and your games with interest. I am at Dec 16th in my game - about a month behind both of you. Still trying to figure out where my opponent's next major thrust will be. He didnt hit Pearl, instead has his carriers split into 3 groups roaming the DEI and PI.

I think I am on dangerous ground in China. Last time I held for a long time before being relegated to (but at least holding) 4 bases in the mountains. This time I have doubts about the length of time I can hold the main areas and have great concerns about the mountains on the Burma side.

INVADED
Amphibious TF 88 offshore of Fergusson Island
Kokoda, Bataan, Cagayan, Pontianak, Singapore, Changsha, Kweilin, Toungoo are also invested.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP
Siaoe is occupied by the Japanese

Overall
• KB1 3 hexes ENE Rabaul.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii
• Sub(s) also closer to Hawaii now too. Subs still prowling off the West Coast.

Pacific
• We got one!
quote:

Allied Ships
SS Sailfish

AD Koshu Maru #2 is sighted by SS Sailfish
SS Sailfish launches 4 torpedoes at AD Koshu Maru #2

South of Truk, Koshu Mary #2 was probably on the way to Rabaul.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain
• KB1 3 hexes ENE Rabaul and just sitting there at the edge of detection range.

• It seems the Empire is waiting for a blocking force to occupy Dobadura before attacking at Kokoda.

• Horn Island will be resupplied by submarine for the time being.

Philippines
• 4 enemy units now at Cagayan. Is the next assault imminent?

DEI, Dutch new Guinea, Borneo, Malaya
• The IJN cruiser group discussed yesterday has gone. I had a feeling the Empire was just trying to draw out our cruisers, perhaps just to see if they are still around. Very devious, these Admiral Wa.

• Singapore base damage holding steady.

China
• Holding yet. Tomorrow or the next day one of our units will rotate out to R&R in Sian.

Allied ground losses:
1676 casualties reported
Squads: 23 destroyed, 113 disabled
Non Combat: 9 destroyed, 24 disabled
Engineers: 2 destroyed, 9 disabled
Guns lost 8 (3 destroyed, 5 disabled)

Assaulting units:
3rd Division

10th Medium Field Artillery Regiment

Defending units:
29th Chinese Corps
41st Chinese Corps
42nd Chinese Corps
85th Chinese Corps
92nd Chinese Corps
3rd Group Army

• Supplies are beginning to grow short in China.

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina
• Two of our four units running north from Rangoon were slowed by air strikes but might slip out of the hex before Godzilla catches up. IJA Inf Rgt now at Toungoo (and most of our support units were slowed in leaving by air strikes). Many Zero sweeps over Magwe but we let them search the air. I think we will bring in the AVG 1st Sqn (unrestricted). They transfer to Myitkyina.

• Three Hurricane groups at Calcutta more or less ready to go. Shold they be committed to Burma or defense of proximate India? We could stack them with Buffalo's over Magwe to attrite enemy sweeps? Three more Hurricane groups are loaded on trains bound for Calcutta.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia
• With drop outs for maintenance, there are 3x subs assigned patrol in this area, 2 of which are on station and 1 on the way. Today we assigned 6 more subs to patrol zones. These subs have similar speeds and will be on station more or less at the same time, something I hope will be more productive. Due to the distance from Pearl Harbor they can't be on station for terribly long which might work well with blanketing an area at the same time.

Complete combat report attached.

I worry about basing planes in Burma at this stage, because damaged planes are as good as lost (or maybe I should say as bad as lost). Since fighters are in such short supply for several months, I hate losing even a small number of damaged planes that get overrun by the enemy.

I am definitely worried about that. The one AVG squadron I figure can fly/rail straight to Myitkyina and should have time to make ready and exit from there. The Hurricanes I am really thinking about. More planes means more load on air support so asking the small base force at Myitkyina to handle that would be foolish.

I didn't reinforce Burma at all this time, and the one en route unit I let go - some tanks - was killed in full at sea. They would have helped but only some. In the past I put in a British division originally on the way to Singapore plus more units. Gained a lot of time but in the end I lost tons of British infantry squads and they cannot be replaced.

My long range thoughts for this game don't really involved Burma so much.

Overall
• KB2 sighting at Hong Kong with possibly 1x CV, 3x CVE, 1x BB.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii
• Sub activity West Coast & Hawaii.

• No enemy activity.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain

• Singapore base damage repairing but >3 days like today needed for that and more to increase fortifications.

• Very quiet in the DEI.

China
• The Empire is serious about bypassing our defenses in the Changsha area.

• Trying to secure the mountains.

• Yenan is being abandoned. Strong Imperial forces will push us down that road to Sian and there is nothing we can do about it.

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina
• Recon bombardment at Toungoo.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP
Dobadura is occupied by the Japanese

Overall
• KB2 @ Hong Kong.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii
• Subs off the West Coast with active air search.

Pacific
• In about 6 days the convoy will arrive at Pago Pago, where it will reform. Some ships will continue on to Suva on Fiji while most unload at Pago Pago.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain
• Sub off Brisbane.

• With Dobadura gone the refugees at Kokoda will start receiving ground assaults.

Philippines
• Another Imperial unit is moving on Cagayan so probably no attack until it arrives.

DEI, Dutch new Guinea, Borneo, Malaya
• Singapore has more of the base repaired but is now in supply Yellow.

• Still pretty quiet.

China
• My guess is the divisions split are the units exiting to R&R.

• Very quiet otherwise.

China
• Trying to get undead units to the front soon enough to start them infiltrating before our frontmost lines are shattered.

• All of the fighter groups have been bought to Southeast Asia Command and are on their way to India. I mentioned this a long time ago but lately have had reservations about the PP. The bomber groups have not been bought but will be after assisting as needed in movement on the Changsha plain. Fighter cover as needed will be provided by the three AVG squadrons.

• An Imperial unit, possibly that infantry division, has appeared just east of Kiuchuan.

• We are beginning to pull most units out off of the Changsha plain. I will reinforce Changsha itself and leave that as a bastion. There will be, until the Empire cuts it off, a line of retreat through the forest.

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina
• The AVG squadron is being moved back into China and the Buffalo squadrons are moving to India. Any fighter cover needed as key units withdraw will be provided by Hurricanes. There are now 6 Hurricane squadrons in Calcutta.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia
• Three subs from the old patrol assignments on station.

I look carefully at China, it feels like a crystal ball. One difference, you seem to be facing pressure in the Changsha sector where I am not.
