Status: offline 		I wondered what those things were. The Ha 33 is not an advanced engine, right? Just that it uses two instead of one.

• I'm preparing a bunch of P-38 squadrons to sweep from Iwo-jima. It'll take a while because of upgrades, but I think after the third day in a row (tonight) the B-29's will need a long time to recover anyway. The P-38's will be able to sweep Yokohama/Yokosuka, Hamamatsu, Shimizu, and Chiba.

No, no shipping seen. Even ASW south of Japan has thinned out quite a bit, presumably much of it is what was deployed to the west.

I use "Rest" orders a lot and it does appear that the most fatigued aircraft are the ones stood down. But they never repair to 0 fatigue until they have enough fatigue/damage points to be "stood down for repairs". Getting them under 10 points of fatigue appears enough to stave off a lot of ops losses.

Then I wonder why he has not changed it back to a Naval Shipyard before starting repairs.
But it is instructive to think about being the Japanese player and wrecking an important industry by a simple mis-click! Managing the economy is not for the careless nor faint of heart!

Status: offline 		Normally if you do something like that you bite the bullet and reload the last save or start the turn over, if you catch it. Sometimes you can accidentally do it, fix it, but then get messed up with your saves.

It is war...stuff happens.

Costs a lot of supplies and isn't really worth it at this stage of the game.

He can only afford repairs on r&d for planes, perhaps building some specific planes. Not even oil is worth repairing at this date.

• So the plan is when a massive number of B-29's are ready and two squadrons of P-38's are ready at Iwo-jima, sweeps and daylight strikes on Yokohama/Yokosuka. The question is, what should be the target and the altitude? Should I try for Manpower with daylight accuracy to really get a large total of hits? Should I hit the Ha 45 factory to try and destroy the whole thing? It will be some days before the B-29's are ready anyway.

• Matsuyama has a mystery engine factory. I don't have recon assets on it right now, but I think it's in range so maybe could be a low opposition target at some point.

Again, neither in my view.

The IJ bottleneck is in the actual combat squadrons. Airbase bombing, to ramp up the fatigue and morale to get the feedback loop going, then move over to the manpower at the big industry centres to kill supply production.

Can't answer because I don't know what your overall goal is.

For me, P38s sweeping from so far never really performed well versus Japanese top tier fighters. You want to be within Jugs range...

I would combine with a deathstar sweep with corsairs.

I would also be tempted to hit Matsuyama with 1-3 daytime squadron bombers as is -- that engine factory is usually a good one that is lightly protected and it is far from your normal routine so there exists a real potential to catch him by surprise. If I did do this, I might pick 3-4 off the beaten path targets to hit like Iwaki, Sendai, Nagano and Nagaoka which I think are within extended range of Saipan or even smaller bases looking for a good risk reward VP ratio.

Maybe by assigning only one squadron, flying relatively low, you can beat all but the in hex CAP to the target...and perhaps there isn't much of that...daring daylight raids. Start picking targets at max extended range and work your way closer with an eye to avoiding large airbases by at least one hex. You offset your poor recon by flying low, say 6k, and by surprise hopefully.
