AM Strive needs an award. A bunch of mines and it looks like a sub as well. Or is it just another exciting day?

Little ship, big war!

I forget if it was this turn or last where I got three "sub falsely reported as sunk" messages. So, great job but maybe the sub won't really go down.

Instead of an award I sent her two more mine sweepers to join up and provide relief. Her ASW weapons were partly restocked by the tiny port (if she really was out of ammo, not just just one weapon which was empty when I looked).

I was thinking that 18 hits with heavy damage is hard on a Japanese sub. It may not go down right away but it might sink later. If any of those hits were penetrating hits with significant damage, especially to the engines making it even slower it just might be a zombie sub, waiting to go down one last time.

Yeah, in spite of a pretty big number of false sunk messages I think we are having great success against the IJN subs. Of course they've been extracting a price, but at least that's mostly in temporary loss of assets while they repair instead of ships sunk.

• We have formed two surface combat task forces with excellent CO's. Each consists of 2x RN CA and 6x USN Fletcher DD. They will guard the merchants on their return to Akyab. Prince of Wales, 3x CL, and 5x DD will be their backup. If the IJN battleships return we will either commit the two slow BB's in theater or pull back while LBA repels them. Other CA and DD are undergoing upgrades at Bombay.

Looks like he lost a lot more fur than you did, although the Liberators and Fortresses make for rather large clumps!

Yes!

Finally getting those B-24J models with their 65/month replacement flow, too.

1943 September 23

Enemy cruisers are on the way in, and even though strategic surprise was earlier lost we have not been spotted at Chittagong or transiting there from Madras. Out two cruiser TF's will patrol at Akyab while the POW TF patrols between Akyab and Cox's Bazar. We have moved 100 fighters into Akyab to provide air cover. LBA is ready to strike enemy ships. A merchant convoy will move from Chittagong to Cox's Bazar so it can quickly move to Akyab tomorrow night.

1943 September 26

INVADED
Invested: Taung Gyi.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP

Overall

• No carrier Intel.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii

• Six heavily damaged destroyers made it to Pearl Harbor (one of four undamaged destroyers in escort was lost) and are now undergoing repairs and in some cases simultaneous upgrades. BB Idaho is still pier side; she has pumped out temporary flooding but at 30-73-0-0 she will repair system damage before trying for the West Coast. DD Blue is one hex away from Johnston Island where she will put in due to temporary flooding. An AR is on the way to help improve her 50-86(61)-38(30)-0 status.

Pacific

• Lots of logistics.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain

• The carriers are moving forward to cover the landing of fighters at Manus to be followed shortly by the landing of a Fleet Advance Base Force. The landing of some supply tonight at Kavieng will allow recon from that base to begin.

Philippines

DEI, Dutch New Guinea, Borneo, Malaya

• Looking for tankers.

• One TF seen 4 hexes west of Rangoon; can't tell if it is ASW or surface combat. Our cruisers at Akyab are spotted but our battleship just NW is not.

• Four merchant convoys are rounding Ceylon so let's hope enemy carriers do not make a surprise appearance.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia

• More ASW.

If you fly in Naval support, that should work just as good as an AR.

OK. The AR is halfway there and I'm thinking of leaving it there as an interim repair station. BB Idaho almost made a stop there too but in the end pressed on to Pearl.

A good idea. A gas station with a mechanic on duty.

1943 September 27

INVADED

• No carrier Intel.

• DD Blue did not make the one hex to Johnston amid flooding messages. Maybe tomorrow.

Pacific

• There is a TF spotted as 5 ships, 2x AM + 3x PB approaching Truk from teh Marianas Islands. Our carriers are busy providing cover for convoys moving to Manus and cannot respond, but a group of LowNav trained B-25G have moved to Ponape to try their hand.

I wonder too if the TF is bait for naval forces, with the Empires now somewhat repaired carriers lying in wait??

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain

• That convoy with three fighter squadrons will arrive at Manus tonight, the convoy with the FLeet Advance Base Force will arrive the following day. Another convoy with many engineer units is several days away. A convoy with support units for Kavieng is yet farther back and slower moving.

Philippines

DEI, Dutch New Guinea, Borneo, Malaya

China

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina

• No sign of enemy warships.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia

• And more ASW.

1943 September 28

INVADED
Invested: Taung Gyi.
Landing Craft TF 94 offshore of Buka

CHANGED OWNERSHIP
Tassafaronga is occupied by the Allies

Overall

• No carrier Intel, but a PB is moving to Singapore.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii

• No sight of the sub(s) near the West Coast or near Hawaii.

• DD Blue made into port at Johnston Island, the AR is there going to work on her.

Pacific

• A couple of small PB type convoys at Truk. Are they bringing in supply or troops? Or taking out key troops?

• Troop count at Jaluit is down, I suspect a submarine evacuation. Our Rgt is only a bit over 60% prepared, but I'm sending transport to get them anyway.

• Fighters unloaded at Manus, fleet base force about to unload.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain

• Buka will transfer authority to the Allies tomorrow. The remainder of the Solomons are certainly unoccupied and we will mop them up with company sized forces. The same is probably true for the islands off the eastern end of New Guinea. Recon shows Gasmata is empty, as is Umboi Island, and both will be seized. Namatanai is empty and we will move some combat capable engineers to Kavieng to march down there and raise the flag.

• The Horn Island invasion force (a USA para Rgt) is loading at Brisbane. We got some fuel into Australia and a lot more is en route.

Philippines

DEI, Dutch New Guinea, Borneo, Malaya

China

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina

• At least one ASW TF. Our spotting in that areas seems ineffective.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia

Pacific

• A small PB convoy has left Truk headed for the Marianas. Perhaps our subs will score, but whatever the convoy's mission was it's nearly completed.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain

• It really paid sending that fleet adv unit to Manus in amphibious mode, the whole thing is unloaded now. Manus is instantly a powerhouse support location. We have a bunch more engineers on the way but some of them will be overkill and none of them will be there very long. I think in 3 days the airfield will expand to size 4 and the LB30 group will commence search to the west into the Arafura Sea to aid the Horn Island invasion.

• Tomorrow: engineers will land on Mussau Island; troops will land on Torokina, Vella Lavella, and Kirakira.

If all those hits on I-18 were minor hits, she is likely to survive. I have seen an I-boat take up to 30 minor hits before it finally sank.
