Not afraid, just looking at the opposition. I'm transporting the first VF Corsair squadron from the West Coast to Hawaii. There are almost enough carrier capable Corsairs to upgrade them from the land locked model.

Strategically, I will have low-investment operations along and past both coasts of New Guinea; Iwo Jima and the Marianas. In CBI, Sabang, but heaven knows when I will be able to pull that off.

Need to get Marcus repaired and set up for rearming battleships.

According to 7.4.2.3 Kamikazes, they are activated when the Allies own the base.

You are most welcome. I learned a lot from you when I was new to the game.

It is 20 or 21 hexes from Tokyp, Takao, and/or Saigon traceable by sea only. The manual uses the old WITP distance. You can count from Saigon on the map. Most of the Kuriles are good to capture.

Someone posted the map a long time ago, I forget who so I can't give them credit but at least I saved it.

I wasn't explicit about this because I covered it a while back, but I realized not mentioning it in the recent post on next steps might have been misleading.

The next target on my list is Pagan, and then the rest of the Marianas. Iwo Jima is either after that or a target of opportunity if it's weakly held. I do assume it's well defended, but Let's see what recon tells us when it's available.

The amount of traffic we've intercepted lately in and out of the Marianas tells me they are getting a big build up right now. We'll deploying even more subs into the likely convoy routes west of the Marianas; so far the big mass of subs we deployed was to make life difficult for enemy naval forces opposing our operations at Marcus Island.

What does sigint tell you about the Jimas? My guess based on being a JFB is that you had a shot at taking the Jima's really cheaply, but given how far away your prepped troops are, they will be much better prepared by the time you get there so going for the Marianas makes sense too.

As a JFB, I would really be conflicted about the Marianas right now given the recent fight at Marcus. I think I might abandon them pretty much. I would really be concerned about the Jimas & Hokkaido.

Isee that the majority of combat Rgts you are preparing to use in the Iwo Jima invasion are Army ones. I am sure you might want to avoid going to the Marine Museum as your alternate reality would have many iconic displays disappearing including the raise of the flag over Mount Suribachi.

I chose units, in order, for:
Truk
Pagan
Saipan
Tinian - Iwo Jim
Guam

I've planned for Iwo Jima on an opportunistic basis. There are still premium units prepared for Truk. I've also figured it was more important to get into the Marianas ASAP that it was to get Iwo Jim ASAP.

There have been tons of 'radio transmissions' SigInt hits for Iwo Jima recently. Here is some cut and paste of units (without dates).

You are correct, I meant Japan will be much better prepared to face you at Iwo, and it seems they have been off to a decent start with all the engineering and about 90 AV there from your sigint. Japan can fly in reinforcements too...I would be.

Based on two things, 1) the amount of sea traffic observed to the Marianas, 2) the non-defense of so many bases to the south, I figure Walter has been paying high attention to defending the Marianas. I'm hoping Pagan will be a viable entry point.

The Japanese did not get serious about garrisoning the Marianas until late spring of 44 and reinforcements scheduled is normally based on historic timeline. Therefore he would have to move forces from other places since your operations have moved the invasion of the Marianas up 6 months.

You don't have Tracker up and running...bet you prefer monkeys.

I am curious what has a bigger impact, naval skill or crew experience. I think it is more crew experience. The number of CV's my iboats have sunk in 1942 is good number...in 1944 almost never (maybe get a cve every now and then).
