Of all the ones listed that you've seen; Battles of Napoleon has the best ai of them all. Just play the Bordino scenario as Napoleon if you want to see a tough ai. I won't play anything else save for Norbsofts Napoleonic series. I got the best of both worlds in opponents turn based and real time.

Many of the games since the 80's have been graphics candy and not much in the AI department. It's been decades since there was a real good AI for a Napoleonic game, Norb's is the closest I've found and his Civil War ai even better.

you are absolutely right that Battles of Napoleon is really the best of all still, given its excellent AI and also all the battles it covers - there were apparently even more than the extra ones you find in the version of it that comes packaged in the SSI Definitive Wargames Collection, but there is no trace of them i can find anywhere online.

I have played the battle of Auerstadt on Battles of Napoleon over and over again as France in what i presumed would be an easy steamrolling of the prussians but quite the contrary, one really must know what they are doing. I love also the counter cavalry charge element in the game too which fits in well with actual napoleonic tactics

Tiller Nap games are very good but the problem is that AI is weak (at least in first titles) and if you play VS a human player you need some house rules (specially in the use of skirmish units).

But is the serie that cover more battles in PC gaming, for example is expected on this year the complement for Marengo title (covering the same period but central Europe battles) and around middle 2018 is going to see light the Eylau title (Bill Peters take the project and is going to finish it).

And well maybe someday we are going to see the 2nd part of the Peninsular war

PD: if you want enter in a cheap way now in Tiller shop Wagram is discounted, 10$, with other 7 titles.

If you want just the 12 disks scenarios goto this link https://www.myabandonware.com/game/battles-of-napoleon-lo

and go all the way down to near the bottom to MISL files. Click on that picture (has a british flag) and it will download just the scenarios in dos. Make sure you have the dos game up as there's an apple and commodore 64 version as well.

Of course you have to have the original dos version to copy the scenario folder to and then you have to open up that folder an individually copy paste each file from every folder into the main game folder.

Then to play one of the scenarios you have to select a pre-generated game from the main menu and it will then list all those scenarios; make sure you write it down just like it says from that directory and on the next screen another box will appear for you to type in that particular scenario and there you have it. Tons of Battles of Napoleon scenarios to play for the rest of your life.

oh wow thats great! well i have the SSI Definitive Wargames Collection that is installed and run through dosbox and it has BoN on it so i am hoping i can add the scenarios to it there - this SSI collection version already has alot of the extra scenarios on it, but there were even more than the ones provided that i saw listed in an old CGW so that is what prompted me to look around online, but i never had thought that myabandonware would have them

Yeah, I forgot Dave made those disks for Sons of Liberty as well. Don't know about the others; what game are the ancient ones from?

Some screenshots from the JTS Leipzig title, the game that Jim Rose once told me couldn't be made. It's often called the battle of nations because most of the countries in Europe were participants, even if they only sent one or two units.

I'm looking for a good tactical or operational level Napoleonic game. I thought SOW might fill the bill but there seems to be as many negative reviews/comments as positive. I'm open for suggestions as to which game(s) I should be considering.

you welcome..

well on the disks 10 and 11 the scenarios have names like Thermopy, Asculum, Issus, hERAKLON, Marathon etc - these all sound like ancient battles to me or am i wrong?
